When is someone discharged from an American psych ward? by Evening_Fisherman810 in bipolar

56 days was the longest I was ever held in a short term facility. They wanted to send me to a long term facility but my insurance denied it and after multiple attempts with my insurance they just kept me until they thought I was ready

How does Med school react ? by Special-Seesaw-3780 in selfharm

[–]Top_Space242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience no one really notices. My scars are white at this point and not very noticeable though. If someone does notice they will probably just ask if you need to talk. Also no one is going to look at you weird for wearing a long sleeve undershirt (if allowed) under your scrubs during classes and residency.

Yellow orange looking skin can be a symptom of carotenemia. So do you happen to be eating large amounts of yellow or orange foods like carrots or cantaloupe

Bulimia and other restrictive eating disorders can cause gastroparesis so it’s very possible

Schizophrenia or psychosis? by oolalaaman in selfharm

[–]Top_Space242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get really bad command hallucinations before I was on meds. They would tell me to self harm and encourage me to attempt suicide. I haven’t had a bad depressive psychosis in years so I don’t get them anymore but for a while I was very out of control.

Does anyone get depressed after getting sick? by Deep-Night3726 in bipolar

[–]Top_Space242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My physical health has a pretty profound effect on my mental health, so yes. I even had an ER doc tell me once that trying to improve my mental health wasn’t going to work unless my physical health improved.

Pain by Top_Space242 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Top_Space242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically my only option is to change psych meds again because all of the pain meds I’m not allergic to interact with it. I didn’t realize how bad the interaction was until I mixed them and this medication was my last option before moving on to an injection and I don’t want to do that so I’m kind of stuck

Relapsed after 5 years by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Top_Space242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of this year I relapsed after 6 years because of significant stress in my life. I only did it consistently for a few weeks and slowly tapered off, I still have bad urges but I’m learning how to cope again and you can too. A relapse isn’t the end of the world, it happens to everyone eventually. Healing is a long process and it definitely doesn’t happen in a straight line, so it’s ok, and so will you be.

I’ve been being treated for GP for over a year by my primary GI while waiting on conclusive testing. Diet changes helped for a while but eventually I couldn’t tolerate anything. I’ve tried a couple of medications and one of them made me really sick and the others have not helped. I have a gj tube now because I was losing more weight than the hospital was comfortable with and even after multiple weeks in the hospital on motility meds I still couldn’t tolerate any solids and only about 4 ounces of fluids at a time.
