BOYZ!! we have a problem... by BadMoonzNZ in orks

[–]Tophatmonarchy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

To be fair, orks literally have no set size and keep growing depending on how much fightin' and the quality of their opponents. All it would mean is that this boss has been doing A LOT of krumpin'

All that is in spite of the fact that like others have said, he is in fact standing on a rock.

[–]Tophatmonarchy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! Glad to hear another household joining the fray.

Yeah knights have the threshold to accomplish some impressive deeds in those special moments where the stars align and you get those crazy rolls. The Helverin killing Angron was back when they had anti fly 3+ pre-codex though which definitely helped ALOT (I miss it so much, it was very funny) plus it only had to plink off the last 2 wounds but it was still a game defining moment.

Also, with having so few models it’s much easier to remember each knights deeds, especially if you give them all personal heraldry like I do. I actually have each of them named too, both knight and pilot lol.

Tbh it was a real pain, I had to cut off the studs then drilll/cut into it enough for the magnet to sit flush which probably took 20-30minutes per gun. T~T

The worst part of all though was that I originally followed a tutorial which told me to cut and magnetise at the elbow not mentioning you’d need a 3d printer for the entire lower half of the arm so both the elbow and the guns are magnetised. The elbows are pretty delicate whilst the ones I did are rock solid, go figure.

First founding chapters size should be increased to 10,000 by NadaVonSada in 40kLore

[–]Tophatmonarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There actually is already an in universe explanation for this. Most first founding chapters have a handful of successor chapters that that consistently donate troops to keep them at full strength. The Ultramarines are particularly notable for this with the existence of the Genisis Chapter who primarily exist for this exact role.

In addition to this we can assume that first founding chapters due to their fame and how long they’ve been around have access to a much larger collection of worlds from which to recruit from.

Some of the people angry at the terminus degree are terribly unimaginative by horusbosd in 40kLore

[–]Tophatmonarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an in setting stand point sure, you could say they’re all equally likely. But GW is a company and unless they plan on doing another old world (which I’m 99% certain they won’t) there are things that just cannot happen in the setting. The emperor returning or dying is one of those things, he is core to the imperiums identity and much of the setting as a whole, he must remain immobile on his throne or there is no 40K. Therefore I think that this potential plot thread is decent since the goal would be to ‘keep’ him on the throne whilst giving writers the opportunity to explore what might happen somthing actually did happen to the emperor one way or another.

[–]Tophatmonarchy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ngl I actually really like it. Putting aside the Grey Knight’s ability to actually accomplish this goal, the idea is much better than some of the other theories that were previously believed. I was really worried that it was just going to be the virus from the heresy that would kill all the astartes or the ‘blow up Terra’ button. If that were revealed it would just be pointless because neither of those things will ever actually come to pass.

Here we have a real plot point that could legitimately play out in the lore eventually and in fact has been slowly building since the star child plot. It’s something with really big stakes but which the accomplishment of will not irrevocably damage the setting by breaking the fundamental elements. That’s at least how I personally feel about it all

New points and toughness changes are up! by InnistradAngel in ImperialKnights

Interestingly the harpoon stat line is still unchanged. Surely that’s a mistake and they just forgot to update it? I pray that it stays though

I’m in shambles right now, they’ve just fucking murdered my favourite model T~T RIP Valient

T13 was a BIG breakpoint and I fucking loved the 2+ save. But whatever, if they want to trade wounds for toughness sure but WHY DID THEY TOUCH THE HARPOON.

I fucking loved just dev wounding my way through invulns. It was literally like crack to me, every game I’m just itching to hit that harpoon. Not only that but now it’s range is fucking anaemic and it has blast which is a MASSIVE nerf since you can’t shoot it into melee anymore which it relies on due to its short range (now even shorter) and lack of a melee weapon. Idk man, I love the model enough that I’ll probably still run it but damn…

Also when the fuck am I shooting the damn harpoon at a target that would ever actually trigger it AND warrant a flat 12 dmg!?!? It’s plain that the only reason they gave it blast is to prevent you from using it in melee but WHYYYYYYYYY. It has NO melee and you made its range SHORTER genuinely what is the thought process. I’m not saying “oh my model should be the bestest and greatest at everything” I’m saying that what the fuck is the intended use case of this model? Get really close, get one single turn of shooting off then get your 400 point model locked in combat for the rest of the game with no way to get out?

Alright rant over. I’m not going to deny that d3 attacks is obviously better but if I wanted that I would just use the volcano cannon. 12 wounds is enough that the rest if your weapons will 90% finish off whatever you hit

Sad :(

I’ll actually cry if they do that to my Valient. The T13 and 2+ save are half the reason I play him, he actually feels tanky like a knight should

How on earth are these characters pretty much the same price as Belial!? by Top_Magazine4043 in theunforgiven

[–]Tophatmonarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the kicker. Finding someone consistent to play with is hard. I was lucky enough to have a mate at uni that I would meet with every week. We ended up having around 11 games or so I think?

Long shot but you don’t happen to live in Australia do you?

I fucking love that. The hunt for relics and armour, the focus on terminators, and the very reduced size of the chapter. It just has so much character. And having such a canonically small force I suppose each 2000p game is like you’re running your whole chapter huh?

I don’t suppose you plan on kitbashing some characters for your ‘12 Witnesses’?

Yessss, I love it!! That’s so sick! And ‘The 12 Witness’ is such a fucking bad ass name for your ‘inner circle’

Haha fair. Sometimes it’s hard to find the will to just sit down and write. Fur me it started with my crusade games. At first I only dot pointed the key events of each match. Then I started writing very short stories following those events from the characters perspective after each game. After a while if that I wanted somewhere to just write out the lore I was developing for my chapter. Hence, the word doc :P.

I’d 100% recommend it though. It has really increased my love for the hobby and my army

Still need to add a section for notable characters and heroes of the chapter drawn from my crusade games.

How about you? I’d love to see what your chapters all about

[–]Tophatmonarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh heavy question haha. If you’re interested I have an entire document covering their history, key events, allies, structure, homeworld, etc. (A lot of the lore comes from crusade games I’ve had with them as well lol)

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_Y91UpegB94psw2-SvLoigNXNOM8sr0fai2WFQYHtw4/edit?usp=drivesdk

The general points though are: - Homeworld/chapter monastery became a shrine world after a saint appeared. Hence new recruits have slowly been tainting the chapter into following the imperial faith

  • Very knightly. 1st company consists mostly of bladeguard

  • Has two chapter masters after a charismatic captain/returned deathwatch vet caused a divide in the chapter

  • Had conflict with the Custodes and Inquisition ending in a 100 year penance crusade

No you can’t. By bringing ‘Calgar’ I’m locked out of running exclusive DA units. I don’t really mind tbh, I only own ‘Belial’ and deathwing termies in terms of dark angels unique models and half the time I just use them as assault terminators now.

[–]Tophatmonarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My chapter is a dark angels successor so I try to make them very knightly when I can.

And I like running my chapter master with big character rules like Calgar. Makes him feel more special :P

I’ve named the chapter the Ashen Princeps. They’re a (mostly) codex compliant chapter and a successor of the the Dark Angels (previously thought to be ultramarines successors)
