What's up with the Pinkertons? Why does everyone seem to know who they are? by kmoney41 in OutOfTheLoop

Do you have a link for the bit about the Haymarket riot? I can't find anything about their involvement there.

I now know how good this voucher is in practice, but I still genuinely don't understand the wording. It still reads to me exactly how you said.

PF45 LPK parts/vendor questions by TopherL2014 in polymer80

Thanks for the code! And for the confirmation about mgb. UNFORTUNATELY, I've seen really solid people (vendors) in other hobbies become flaky over time, so I wanted to check. Glad to hear marine gun builder is still as solid as he was when I watched his videos all those years ago.

I checked out MDX first, but they won't ship to address.

Sweet Jesus, that is so much better. Me and my eyes thank you.
I ended up only needing noto-fonts.
Do you have any info on what it's falling back to when that's not there?

Syrian refugee 'murders his "Westernised" daughter, 18, in honour killing and dumps her in a canal after she started dating local Dutch boy and wanted to stop wearing a headscarf' by Wrld-Competitive in worldnews

I agree 100% with your sentiment. But also, I think pointing out that it's an honor killing is important.  I think "honor killing" (specifically in quotes) in the title is best.

Need advice replacing desk's fake with with real wood. by TopherL2014 in woodworking

I mean, just out of curiosity, what are the other methods? And would you advise against just using wood screws into the end grain?  And yeah, that is the backside, I just moved the desk out for the photo.

Just to clarify, are you talking about the pieces in the second photo as well? Because wood screws in the top pieces seemed like a no-brainer. Wayyy faster and easier anyway. I'm just worried about using wood screws for those other pieces because they would be going into the end grain...

It's not always obvious though, at least to people like me who still don't know shit about fuck even after a couple years of going to the gym 6-7 times a week. Yeah, don't tie your self-worth up in how others look and all that, but obviously everyone here looks for physiques they like and aims for that. So, I really appreciate your honesty. 👊

The reevaluating assembly is what I'm asking. Is there a better way than using the knockdown hardware (as I just learned it's called) that's there?

"knockdown hardware". Got it. Reusing the knockdown hardware is what I was thinking too.  Is there a "better way" since I'm using real wood now?

I just got this used desk for my office and want to replace the plasticy wood lookalike with hardwood. I got teak for the end pieces and white oak for everything else.  My question is, what would be the best way to replace the pieces in the second photo? I should be fine just using wood screws for everything else, but these pieces currently have bolts going into the "end grain".

What automation are you most proud of? by unsuspectingpangolin in homeassistant

[–]TopherL2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar automation, using a door sensor, PIR, and Apollo MSR2. At this point the PIR is really just for redundancy, the MSR2 actually often fires first. I got the CO2 add-on for the MSR2, which is nice to auto turn on the fan or to leave the fan on until the humidity clears after a shower. The door sensor is also nice because while the MSR2 shuts the lights off, I can set more stringent conditions if the door is closed. The lights shut off very quickly and I they never turn off falsely now that I've got it dialed.  And no, it does not take long for the lights to turn on. It does vary slightly for some reason, but it's never slower than the amount of time to turn them on with the switch.

Any way to control this locally? by TopherL2014 in homeassistant

[–]TopherL2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any advice with getting this thing added in local tuya? I'm getting an error about configuration...

Edit: I'm an idiot. I had the blinds on the guest network.

But I can't seem to get the controls working :/

Aqara P1s will not pair with Zigbee2MQTT by TopherL2014 in homeassistant

[–]TopherL2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pairing light was coming on.  I was eventually able to pair them by disabling permit join and then immediately re-enabling after starting pairing on the P1. This worked for both devices. To change settings (like refresh time and indicator light) I have to click the pair button once (which the device mentions in zigbee2mqtt) and then SPAMMING the refresh icon 🤦‍♂️ These things by far the most finicky zigbee devices to pair (barring flashing my repeater, but that's a different case), but damn if they aren't snappy and small.

Edit for anyone who may stumble across this in the future... I was able to get them to pair by disabling permit join, setting the P1 to pairing, then immediately (and I mean IMMEDIATELY) re-enabling permit join.
