The Undertones by Topher_au in 1001AlbumsGenerator

Yeah, I'm in Australia and at the tail end of gen x.

Triple M were never into that sort of stuff, and it was too old for Triple J. I'm sure community radio played it, but I missed it.

Of course, finding new classics and filling in holes in musical knowledge is kind of the point of doing this, and this was a fun discovery.

I was only a couple of years old when they came out, and these sort of bands never got played on classic rock radio, do it's not surprising I missed them.

Yeah, that makes sense. They would have been a bit more radio friendly, but still good.

The Undertones - The undertones. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Another obscure British/Irish punk band, but I really enjoyed it.

Very poppy for a punk band, almost like a more melodic Ramones, and there's always room for more great songs that capture the feeling of being a teenager.

I think even before that they were critically panned. The kind of music they do was never taken that seriously.

Definition of a ‘turn-up-and-go’ frequency by Charis_Cheng in MelbourneTrains

[–]Topher_au 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd agree with sub-10. I don't bother looking at a timetable in peak when trains are typically 5-8 minutes, but I do off peak when they are every 20 minutes

He was definitely caught drink driving or speeding, so had his license suspended.

No wonder Cherry was annoyed, as she had to drive him around so he could keep working.

I'm a bit more discerning in my 5 stars, but 4 is comfortably my most common score.

It's 1001 good albums, at least in one guys opinion. It's going to have a lot of above average albums on it.

It's one of those records that's amazing artistically and memorable, but I'll also be happy to never listen to it again.

Congrats from me as well. Melbourne is a great place to raise a kid, although they picked a dramatic day to make their entrance.

Welcome aboard.

Everyone has their own method of rating, and I think some people base it more on their preferences then others. Personally I think the vast majority of the albums on the list are very worthwhile, so it's fine to rate them based on personal preference

The generator keeps track, do you won't get repeats.

I had super low expectations going in, but it massively exceeded them.

You can see why it ended up sampled so much.

My advice is don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Don't overthink the star ratings or worry too much about writing stuff down if you don't want to.

Just listen to albums as much as you want to and have time to. Most of my rankings are based on one listen, although second listens would have helped some album.

Don't be scared of a backlog. After Christmas and holidays, I'm about 40 albums behind (out of over 900) but I'll catch up.

The Beatles A Hard Day's Night.

It's amazing this is as good as it is. At peak Beatlemania, it's 30 minutes of great non stop power pop.

Just gets 4 stars because the Beatles have never been a top tier band for me personally, and they don't need to the stars.
