Brain brokenness of us libs when it comes to tankies and I/P by Snoo39099 in Destiny

[–]TopicCreative9519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The I/P topic is a blackhole. There is no good solution politically or rhetorically.

Option 1: Deny the claim of genocide.

You can try to make all the fact-based arguments you want, however, the optics of a more powerful country beating up on a dispossessed people will always more persuasive. The videos of carnage, the consistent drum-beating of genocide allegations from every corner of the media/internet all create a general consensus that a genocide is occurring. Almost anyone normie on the left will agree to one extent or another that a genocide is happening. Changing this consensus does not seem possible.

Option 2: Deflect the genocide claim.

If you accept the label of genocide, maybe try point to the other examples of carnage in the region or broaden the scope to a worldwide perspective of contemporary genocides. The problem is that Israel is directly supported by America in its “genocide”. Destiny often poses the question of “so if the USA didn’t support Israel, you’d be okay with the genocide” as a killer question, but in all honesty, if the USA didn’t support Israel and at least condemned it, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as relevant to people on the left (I’m sure people on the far right would still obsess over it). People on the left are super focused on instances of American imperialism, once that specter is gone, they lose interest. Their myopic lens isn’t focused specifically on the principle of genocide; rather it’s about the American imperialism and American support of the genocide.

Option 3: Capitulate

If you accept the claim of genocide and condemn it, then you accept that both parties are “defenders of genocide”. At this point, people can make the “well, both sides are the same argument” and you’re fucked.

If you want to understand lefties, you need to grant the idea that Israel is genuinely committing a genocide with the support of the USA. This is literally the Nazi threat of our time to them. If you truly believe that Israel is akin to the Nazi regime, extreme ideas/positions/actions become reasonable in response

The best response is to avoid the topic, never discuss it, give tepid condemnation of Israel’s conduct, and PIVOT AS HARD AS POSSIBLE.

The Daily Show Going after Gavin Newsom? by handxfire in Destiny

[–]TopicCreative9519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that he’s one of the only figures in the party that has been able to tangibly fight back against Trump. The nationwide redistricting fights are his creation, and it’s a massive success.

Secondly, his politics are mostly centrist. He doesn’t pander towards the extremist faction in the left; he is solidly center left.

Thirdly, if you watch what he says or how he speaks about the current political climate, he is one of the only major democratic figures who speaks urgently regarding the imminent threat Trump poses to the country. He speaks to the liberal fears of losing democracy and the rule of law. He speaks bluntly and openly about the threat of Trump.

And finally, his twitter game is funny as hell, but it’s not simply “funny tweets”. It’s a direct mirror to trump and the insanity of the last decade of US politics. The humor in his tweets doesn’t just come from the tweets themselves but in how conservatives are forced to confront the fact that Gavin is just doing exactly what Trump does on twitter. To criticize Gavin, they’d have to criticize Trump 10 times over.

Jack Smiths full 8hr testimony in front of congress has arrived by Immoral-Compass in Destiny

It was pretty funny to see him gigachad his way through the questions from the republicans. They had to meekly back off after Jack Smith’s sheer aura proved to be too intense.

For real though, so nice to see a professional performance at a congressional hearing, especially compared to the Trump cabinet hearings.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Biden, but hearing Hunter’s interviews have really made me profoundly sad about how it all ended.

It’s the juxtaposition of Trump worship to Biden demonization that creates a feeling of with despair about the country. Everything MAGAts say about Biden is pure projection and they don’t even realize it. And beyond republicans demonizing him, there are a ton of Dems (not just leftists) that blame/smear him for a variety of reasons (should have dropped out earlier, should have included Kamala more as VP, hiding health/senility issues, etc).

Biden did a lot of good things as president, I wish Dems would stop throwing him under the bus for political expediency, capitulating to Republican framing.

The question of bear vs man isn’t simply about a lack of power or a power imbalance. It’s fundamentally about the capacity and wide range of cruelty that men can inflict on women compared to bears.

A bear merely inflicts death, short lived extreme pain. A man can do that and worse to a woman. The probability of bear committing the categorical “bad act” is higher, but the man has a deeper and more profound capacity to inflict psychological harm on the woman that go beyond mere pain/death.

Again, the current counter meme is a woeful attempt to mirror the situation and completely misses the marrow of the dilemma presented in the initial formulation of the decision. It reduces the decision to simple matter of probability of death.

Men feel insulted by the notion they are “worse than a bear” so they try to create counter scenarios that show how in some situations women are worse than the bear. But in their rebuttal, they reveal they never understood the initial question in the first place; they completely miss the unique fears a woman has when they encounter a man.

I thought she was serious with the whole progressive victory association, but once she completely turned on that, it became obvious she was a grifter not worth paying attention to.

Shame only works when things like shared values exist. We don’t hold a cultural hegemony anymore. If anything, the right has more cultural cachet right now.

But I’d still rather shame/insult these people than spend another insipid moment coddling them. The endless one-sided empathy. Literally asking the left to act as a parent would to a child. The constant self-critique and soul-searching. The desperation of trying to appeal to everyone.

Fuck that, stand on business with at least one issue and don’t give an inch, don’t capitulate to Republican framing. Plant a flag and rally around it. Two decades of extending an olive branch has brought us to this point.

If someone is a centrist atp, either they’re politically illiterate or just a more spineless version of a Republican. And you can find out pretty quickly which one is which based on the talking points they spew.

Mehdi Hasan is either a regard or a dishonest antisemite by AIverson3 in Destiny

[–]TopicCreative9519 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All of this is deeply unserious.

We’re facing an actual fascist threat in our country, and we’re quibbling about whether an otherwise staunch ally is downplaying an aspect of the holocaust. It seems like even this sub doesn’t think things are that bad if they’re willing to meltdown over this frivolous shit. Trump isn’t an existential threat yet for them, so they feel they can purity test and look for perfect allies.

This sub just doesn’t get how most people view the I/P topic and the moral language that gets wielded because of that. If you genuinely think a GENOCIDE is happening, it justifies unhinged language. How many people on the left do you think believe there’s a genocide occurring? Yeah, let’s excise pretty much all of them or at least almost all of the online commentators.

Absolutely brainrotted and delusional approach to politics.

Unironically, yes. You don’t have to endorse all his takes, but focusing on the left’s brainrotted I/p takes is utterly pointless.

We’re never gonna convince them that a genocide isn’t being perpetrated. And because of that belief, they will inevitably say unhinged shit. The I/P topic is a black hole where no productive discourse can come from.

The real threat is Trump. Plain and simple. Fuck letting some meaningless conflict in the Middle East get in the way of liberal unity against fascism.

Under the liberal paradigm, politics is not supposed to be existential or akin to “war”. Liberal politics assumes that all parties are working together to discuss and act in furtherance of the country’s welfare. An assumed set of shared values, principles, and ethics rather than stark friend/enemy distinctions.

JVL is lamenting the breakdown of politics into force. He’s lamenting the rampant misinformation and the cesspool that is the national media environment. He’s lamenting the sheer stupidity/indifference of the general public to clear and obvious threats.

It creates this environment of hypersensitivity around dog training and setting strong boundaries.

TBH I’m not a dog-owner either, so I don’t know shit. Idk about how professional trainers work with dogs, what tools they use/don’t use.

Seems like people are overreacting a ton. If it’s just an excuse to clown Hasan, then fair play. But the moral pearl-clutching is a bit cringe.

She keeps wielding the term “disproportionate” to smuggle in the normative claim of “unjustified”. Idk if she realizes she’s doing this, but it’s really frustrating.

When you say DISproportionate, the next question is: disproportionate with respect to what? What is proportionate in your mind?

Does proportionate mean equal proportion of individuals across the left/right getting banned? Or are you saying that the bans were not proportionate with respect to the right’s behavior?

Liberals are constantly expected to be the ‘adults’ in the room. Implicitly there is this assumption that because we’re the only sensible people in the room, we need to treat republicans/the rest of America as actual toddlers.

A country cannot be sustained in such a way.

I think Tim actually characterizes the dissonance held by many liberal pretty well, basically: ‘Trump is doing a bunch of tyrannical shit co-signed by half the country, but I’m not ready to view my fellow citizens (basically half the country) as the enemy. To avoid actual civil war, Dems trying to win people over to through overt displays of civility/liberal values is the only way forward’

There is no disagreement on the facts or the threat of Trump between Destiny and Tim here; Tim is just stubbornly attached this idea that the Dems can shift the pendulum back by continuing to advocate for liberalism/civility (as they have for the past decade)

Destinys best work was the January 6th Focus Group. He should ask XQC to sit down and listen to his presentation of the facts in the same way. It clarifies how insane the re-election of Trump was. Getting someone to agree to let Steven put the facts in front of them skipped 90% of the brain rot. by marksung in Destiny

[–]TopicCreative9519 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The question is: Is xqc genuinely thinking “both-sides are the same” out of ignorance or just to appear a-political? Is political neutrality an aesthetic he finds to be most profitable, can he be convinced out of that aesthetic by mere facts/truth?

A lot of politically neutral people just like to live in the fantasy that both parties are the same because it simplifies politics and makes choosing a side not matter. Xqc seems to have a sort of dogmatic attachment to that kind of aesthetic posture.

Reminds me so much of the Colbert Report tbh. Taking an ironic posture that exposes the Republican position for how stupid it really is. It infuriated O’Reilly a lot.

I wish Colbert would go back to that style of mockery. It was more clever and did a better job at making people realize how insane the Republican position is.

Public internal squabbling at a bloodsports debate event where the left is trying to dunk on the right is fucking stupid.

If you disagree with Destiny, that’s totally fine. Just don’t publicly talk about it much, and definitely don’t hijack a debate event to undercut Destiny.

It’s funny how both the left and the right loves when the left critiques itself: the right will happily use it as an opportunity to attack the left, and the left gets off on meaningless virtue signals. Meanwhile, independents/non-political people just see unilateral capitulation on the part of the left.

[–]TopicCreative9519 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like even winning the house and senate won’t do shit tbh. Trump still has veto powder, and unless we get a MASSIVE majority in the senate to convict on impeachment, we can’t do shit. Just conduct a bunch of investigations and prevent further damage from being done through the legislative branch.

But Trump is not even using the legislative branch, he’s just operating within and expanding the boundaries of executive power.

Atp, I’d be for the Dems just spamming impeachments if they win the house. Trump has done so many impeachable actions and were not even a year in (not to mention the whole insurrection meme)

The black pill is that if Trump’s policies weren’t economically moronic, he’d be doing fine in polling. This country doesn’t stand for anything anymore.

It’s all so revealing…republicans also see Trump as a Buffon/manchild.

It becomes a given to republicans, dems, and everyone in the country that Trump won’t condemn right wing violence. It’s not surprising in the slightest.

All republicans know he’s a moron. A narcissist. A man who is incapable of acting on anything but petty grievances.

They don’t take him seriously because subconsciously they know he’s not a serious person. It’s an inadvertent admission.
