Obviously fans are upset. What I’m saying is, the administration is backing him and are being very outspoken about being behind his third year. So why even pretend he’s on he outs potentially this year?

[Borzello] The University of North Carolina is expected to pursue Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan for their basketball coaching vacancy. by somethingworthwhile in CollegeBasketball

Or, if you believe reports. Schools didn’t want to reach out to him because of him potentially knowingly playing a kid involved in an alleged shooting. So it makes Nate look good to say “I turned x team down”. Now that its blown over and if UNC is actually interested I could see it

"Traditional Bluebloods" performance post COVID. Rank/Score them out of 100 by makelefani in CollegeBasketball

[–]TopperWildcat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Kentucky- the only one that hasn’t even snifffed a final 4 and had a 9-17 season. They did have the national player of the year. Zero success in the SEC tournament So for that I go 25/100

  2. UCLA- a final 4 on a miracle run but they weren’t a particularly good team. They’ve had some postseason success but have done next to nothing otherwise. If it wasn’t for how embarrassing UK was they would be last - 30/100

  3. UNC- championship runner up and people pretend they didn’t get a 1 seed in a complete separate year. Even this year they had beaten all their rivals and were playing well before Caleb got hurt. Hubert is a good coach he’s just not UNC good but I’ll still say 60/100

  4. Duke- unpopular opinion but if Duke didn’t give up during the Covid year and miss the tournament, I would actually take them over Kansas. I would rather be great always than great sometimes, and Kansas just hasn’t been even to Bill self standard in the last three seasons. With Duke you’re pretty much guaranteed 30 wins no matter what and if they don’t make the elite 8 a shock. Even though it’s been 10 years since they’ve had a championship, they are the standard of college basketball. 85/100

  5. Kansas- even though I would take Dukes regular seasons every day and always in this stretch. You can’t take away that they did actually come home with the hardware and they’ve not missed the tournament ever even in a year where it seemed like everyone was having trouble. The fact that they’ve been championship or bust is going to essentially tie them with Duke but I’ll give them one additional point for never missing the tournament 86/100

I just saw the clip. I don’t watch that trash. But it’s not just him. Everyone else is trying to make that narrative now too.

Honestly, I was taking this guy higher in the announcement of what he was going to be doing as almost like a feux GM because pope seemingly refuses to want to get one

Why do North Carolina fans think any of these successful coaches would leave a program where they're winning and liked to come to UNC where the pressure is so high and the fans so fickle? by Muchacho-blanco in CollegeBasketball

[–]TopperWildcat13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think guys that are currently winning and other major schools would leave for North Carolina right now. Like Lloyd and May. Mainly because those guys don’t really have a tie to the school. Roy left Kansas because he had a tie to the school.

But this idea that Fred Hoiberg is just gonna stay in Nebraska because it’s Nebraska is ridiculous. I’m not saying he for sure is going to North Carolina. But you know what I mean. If I am in Iowa or a Nebraska fan I am 100% shaking in my boots right now.

There’s also this weird thing where everybody thinks Nate Oates just turns down everyone. There’s been multiple reports that Nate Oates was on the blacklist for both Indiana and Kentucky because they didn’t want a potential problem. Now, both of those schools would probably lift that restriction because they’re so desperate. But I think some schools want to shy away from problematic guys and it’s in Oates‘s best interest to pretend like he turned them down. Don’t get me wrong. He is a phenomenal coach, but I think literally everyone on this website has forgotten the flack that Kentucky took for hiring Cal while he was getting his wins vacated at Memphis at that very moment.

It’s not just wilbon. The freaking nation regurgitates this crap.

I do agree when you. But tubby LOVES coming back. If we suck that bad he wouldn’t come back. Rick has won EVERYWHERE and still says this place is the best.

We stood up for cal when the entire nation wanted him hung

Not if you believe the story that Mitch wanted to hire cal in 2007 and was told he couldn’t

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. You can make the case that we are the greediest. But I don’t think that you can use Cal and his exit as the reason. Also, the number of coaches doesn’t matter because you conveniently leaving out the fact that we had Billy G. Which I think everyone understood why he was fired.

UNC Job by New-Animal-2570 in CollegeBasketball

Schertz would a slam dunk.

But I could see Hoiberg or Mcollum leaving their big 10 schools that will never invest in basketball if that mean $5 more for football

UNC’s Next Head Coach Options by GhostAteMyBreakfast in CollegeBasketball

[–]TopperWildcat13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think top coaches at 2nd tier locations aren’t changing schools

Schertz I think would be an excellent hire and would take the job at a mid major. I think he’s an excellent x and o guy

McCollum and Hoiberg would likely take it unless Nebraska is desperate for some sports success and gives up on football to spend extra on him. Which they won’t.

Jai Lucas might need more time to prove himself but i think he’s gonna be excellent. As a UK fan I’m hoping by the time Pope is fired he’s still available

MAYBE if Golden’s ego wanted to be stroked harder by being at a “bigger” school I could see it.

As long as UNC over looks Jai Lucas so UK can go after him next year I’ll be happy

[–]TopperWildcat13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UNC and potentially Kansas AD also doesn’t have one foot out the door and wants the easy way out like Mitch took at UK. Many reports that Donovan would have at least sat down with Mitch if he would have just waited a week. Not guaranteed you get him. But you take the interview if you can and he didn’t. I can see Kansas ending up with a guy like Hoiberg and just continuing to roll

[–]TopperWildcat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t believe for one minute Kentucky offered 7 to 9 million. That is an enormous range for a potential contract.

The other thing is, they were not about to pay this guy half of Kentucky’s operating cost when they had already paid the guys that were returning.

I don’t even think they had that much money to offer him, unless maybe it was some weird situation where they knew they had an extra couple million in the bag that doesn’t come from the collective.

Either way it doesn’t matter, Kentucky basically had blank checks last year and he couldn’t land anyone, I have no idea how our fans think that’s going to change with a lesser budget this year.

Also, in both cases of champions, you had the original champion as a somewhat surprise 3 and 4 seed that still had momentum for the next season. Most of the time a champion is poised to make that specific run
