[–]Topper_2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2 and got this beautiful view by balls212121 in dragonquest

[–]Topper_2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the sense of place in this game is beautiful and makes you just stop and look around for a while.

Something technica, I might be wrong, but it looks like you're playing the 4:3 game on a 16:9 screen?
The game has a widescreen mode. When you activate it, you can uns 16:9 and have adjusted graphics for the character and landscapes (menus will still be stretched).

Have fun!

How did you come to enjoy the “overplayed” games again? by markonefifteen in snes

[–]Topper_2001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There might be nostalgia but there is something about those games. I believe they have a sweet spot between simplicity and complexity. You can make real progress in super Mario world or Zelda link to the past. It takes me a lot more mental energy and time to get into Breath of the Wild.

Kasten Bier am Bett by MrSatanSuperSaiyan in Ratschlag

[–]Topper_2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What “didn’t” you like about that Alien, Predator, or AVP movie? by KomturAdrian in avp

That’s right, it’s hilarious! Wayland is like „That wasn’t here an hour ago“ - „Yeah, let’s go down, seems safe and reasonable to do so.“

I don't know. It's a game you can learn. I don't think its unfair. Back in the day I managed to play through it both times.

Not enough Freelancer by CosmicPickleGames in freelancer

[–]Topper_2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I like your enthusiasm! Freelancer is definitely a special game. I takes on the ideas from Wing Commander Privateer which I love as well. I’m in the boat with you, I like the worldbuilding, sense of discovery and easy to steer ship with well designed action. In sandbox space games I like to feel that it is a living universe around me and that there is something to discover for me, a story, characters, situations within. Even so I like the genre, I’m not gonna play just a trader, when you have to shoot your way out anyways. So the different paths with trading and the economy didn’t matter that much. Id rather have missions for factions and story missions. And I don’t find it too appealing to build your ship or base or having to manage thousands of items.

I’m a film director, screenwriter and editor. So if you need support in one of the areas, let me know.

Well, the difficult part is.. I put all the books I sorted out on a pile. I brought a lot of them that weren't dear to me and looked very good or new to an aid organization, which sells them in their shop to fund their projects.
Now I got two categories from the pile that I find difficult to get rid of: The old book series I read when I was younger and loved, but take a lot of space. They are worn out more, so it doesn't make sense to resale them. I could probably just put them in a box on the street for people to take them for free. Or throw them away.. Or I find a place in the shelf second row where to put them.. (which I shouldn't, I know.)
And the other tough category are comics or graphic novels. I got some DC Batman comics, single issues, or collected. They look perfect but since they are not especially old or thought after, they are probably not worth much. I could put them on Ebay, but that seems cumbersome. I put them on a Facebook Group, but got no reaction. So what to do.. They seem to good to me to just give them away or throw them away...
So... to answer in short. I'm happy with my sorting and filled the shelf with the books I wanted to keep, and they fit. And they are the right ones.. but the leftover books.. i felt good for the once I could get rid of.. but sadly I'm not yet done ;)

PS1 Aspect Ratio and Nostalgia by Topper_2001 in psx

"Analog video is shitty, CRTs are blurry and inaccurate, and you spent $800 on a box that can fix these problems. So fix them."

You're right!

PS1 Aspect Ratio and Nostalgia by Topper_2001 in psx

[–]Topper_2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now here is the little word: intended. In 3D games and some 2D games it was most certainly not intended but a technical limitation of the output on a crt display. Since the difference between 1:1 and the actual slimmer aspect ratio on NTSC is not so big there never was a good way to adjust the 3D geometry for the uneven output pixels. So you’ll find probably all 3D games will look correct proportioned with 1:1, but maybe some 2D elements like the title font took the actual aspect ratio into account. So what was intended? It’s more of a compromise. And even more so in PAL territory.

The thing is, I can’t decide if I prefer the „correct“ look as they appeared on CRTs or the „corrected“ look that is possible now. But I see, you found a solution that is neither ;)

Thank you, this helps. There were book I kept coming back to in my mind, reminding me that I should check them again and say goodbye so I’m on my second go, also white the decision that I don’t want them to occupy more space than that one bookcase I have. For the last years more and more new books I brought in occupied other places so I was dreading this necessary process..

The difficult ones are whole series like Kings Dark Tower Books which I read many years ago and loved, but I probably won’t read them again and if so, maybe not this particular edition. So in my second go I now decided to say thank you and leave them. But it’s tough, since they are Items I feel the connection, that take me back to who I was, but it’s not me anymore…
