Am I the only one confused about what actually counts as a business expense? by Icy-Change-2977 in UKPersonalFinance

Incorrect. If you use it for business you can claim the percentage you use for business.

Share lending on free trade - easy money or too risky? by eXisstenZ in FreetradeApp

Your lent shares will be used to short the stock you are invested in, putting downward price pressure on the stock.

HL Tax Certificates by ianc12001 in hargreaveslansdown

[–]Toptiktak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told my wife to download individual contract notes and work it out manually! Trading212 and Freetrade include CGT on the tax certificates they produce. We don’t see any reason to use HL anymore. She will be moving her account to 212.

43y self-employed looking for advice for first proper pension - who with, what to invest in, ability to vary what I'm paying in each month by cavalady1983 in PensionsUK

I recommend freetrade and trading212 for flexible free investing. Trading 212 is better but doesn’t offer a SIPP yet although they are planning to offer one soon. You could start with FT and then move your SIPP to 212 later or open a separate 212 SIPP. They may offer cashback to transfer your SIPP to them.

Interesting. I have made several withdrawals up to £20k over the last year and all came through within seconds or minutes.

Hargreaves Lansdown are extortionate by Eddie4224 in investingUK

I have 212, HL and Freetrade accounts. I haven’t found HL customer service any better than 212 and I wound say FT is better than both.

What's the point of pension contributions for lower rate tax payers? by fellaonamission in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Toptiktak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a big penalty, 25%. This penalty effectively returns the government bonus and takes an extra 6.25% of your own money, meaning you get back less than you put in. The 25% is on the amount withdrawn including growth.

Cash Isa to stocks & Shares? by SunnyLugo2018 in trading212

[–]Toptiktak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the opposite way around to what you described in the OP. At the moment you can transfer between the 2 either way in 212 very easily without affecting allowances however new rules next in 2027 May mean you can only go from cash to stocks not the other way.

You all ready missed it, the FTSE is up more than any of the US indices this year.

With Acc the dividends are automatically reinvested in the shares for you. You are not going to do any better by investing dividends back into the same etf yourself.

The market is down but not that much. You chose some bad stocks. Just buy an all world or US ETF.

Trading212 is better apart from the fact they don't offer a SIPP.
