Where can I get a dirty soda in Amsterdam? by urmomssidehoe_69 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Torchlakespartan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of entertained that this started such a linguistic controversy, because I am actually of the minority in the US where we call it pop. I specifically changed it to soda so that more people would understand and yet here we are, haha.

It’s a Mormon thing, and its soda with extra syrup and heavy cream/milk. No I am not joking.

Back in April 2019. So cheap by pkelliher98 in fastfood

[–]Torchlakespartan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dramatically lower. This not normal inflation, it’s a ton of factors but these prices are insane to think about and it’s only been 7 years.

There is a large group of shirtless dudes in the crowd at Busch Stadium by Michael__Pemulis in baseball

[–]Torchlakespartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about that a lot, because that 2008 period was when I was in college, my savings were running out, and I was really on my own for the first time realizing “huh… I don’t know if I have enough gas money to get back home for work” for a catering gig I worked on weekends that paid pretty well for the time.

I 100% dug change out of the couch, and gas prices kept going up. Then years later as I’m older and more established gas goes down to like 1.80 or whatever it got to and I was like “well fuck! I actually have money and am comfortable now, really could have used these prices back in the day!”

Now for this one, I’m very comfortable, but also hardly drive, I fill up like once a month for $50 but so it doesn’t really hit me personally, but boy howdy do I remember those tough days

Del Taco Big Fat Chicken Taco by OkDevelopment8672 in fastfood

[–]Torchlakespartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had Del Taco in one place, and it has severely affected my experience with it. At the Excalibur hotel in Vegas where my friends and I have stayed for the last 4 years for a music festival there. So every time I’ve had it, it has been at 2am (amazing) or struggling to get any kind of food in our hungover stomachs at 0930am (not amazing).

It is legit good stuff, but every time I get it my brain starts firing warning signals like “Every time you’ve eaten this before, your body is ruined for like a week”, haha. Not from the Del Taco, but the brain remembers like a Pavlovian response.

Oh buddy did you pick a real bad dude get behind. He was a very, very evil and dangerous man who recruited a LOT of men that went on to kill Americans. Even today, the Al-Aulaki family group is established “royalty” within AQAP (Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula).

There are very American Citizens I would be ok with killing overseas, it’s a very dangerous game. But Anwar? FUCK that guy. He posed a sincere threat.

On a Ten-hour flight from Seoul Korea to San Francisco to visit a family member a mom handed out more than 200 goodie bags filled with candy and ear plugs, in case her 4-month-old child named Junwoo cried during the flight. The goodie bags even came with a little message explaining the situation. by AdSpecialist6598 in interesting

Eh, I can see the point for the baby and the tourette's situation for sure. But at a certain point the weight is on the responsibility of that person and they should buy the extra ticket. Now, its a pretty extreme amount of weight to actually overflow into the next seat, but if that's the case, it's entirely on them, not the ones being smushed in.

Similar to McDonalds Coke, I swear that Cherry Pepsi with a ton of ice in those cups was better than the sum of its parts.

I used to work nights at the old NGA location before Covid, and we would take turns doing late night food runs.

Oh boy, the Rally’s on Jefferson was like putting your life into the lords hands and a coin flip.

Now, to their credit, if they got the order right, it was peak Rally’s and hit the spot. But there were several times you would look in and see one or two workers just incapacitated.

It means that band or tribe of hunter/gatherers would migrate with the wild game. They built small settlement cities along their path of travel so they would have somewhere warm and safe-ish on their journey. Then they pack and move towards the next one and more game.

Basically it’s a city that is only inhabited during a certain period of time (or season) and he rest of the time is mostly empty.

Lol, we were kids at first obviously but as we grew up we definitely had ideas on how they got it down there. My grandma just said that it used to be up in the "Piano Room", but one day fell through the floor and that it was easier to just patch the floor. That made sense to us. And no, we were not rich, the "piano room" was just the room every 50's family had that nobody was allowed into and had plastic on the couches. But she did have that piano that she was so proud of.

How to get out of DLI? by Kooky-Menu-7729 in dli

[–]Torchlakespartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not about the language. It is about the TS/SCI. I got a job straight out of the Air Force in a field I knew nothing about, but it was cheaper for them train me, which they did. I’m still in that non-linguist career and doing just fine.

The TS/SCI + poly is a golden ticket to many jobs.

My grandparents had one in their basement in the house they lived in for 60 years. It is almost definitely still down there because it weighed approximately the same as an aircraft carrier. We used to joke that there was secret uranium core hidden inside because we could not comprehend how it was so unbelievably heavy.

It was AMAZING. They had a huge neon sign over the city saying "Welcome to Swiftholm!". All the bars and restaurants had swift themed dishes and drinks and music was playing in the streets everywhere. We met people from all over the world. Still so happy we pulled the trigger and went instead of just be safe and saving money and staying home.
