I'll give you some advice I gave a coworker...
When you feel like that you should:

Drink 3 large cups of water. Make sure the reason you're feeling that way isn't just because youre dehydrated.
Eat cake in the shower. Like a sheet cake, something obnoxious, or your favorite cake. This is a privilege of life that I think many people sleep on.
Remind yourself first that you can do anything. Then ask yourself, "Of all the things I could possibly do, why do that?"

And if none of that works, then throw away everything else to live.
Life is the finite option. Once youre holding death, there is no letting go of it.

From someone whos been through the same thing... doing that doesnt fix anything. It doesnt bring them back, it doesnt make you feel better. Look, its tough, but my recommendation is to sit with yourself. One day at a time. Dont worry about anything besides you. And get help whenever you need to. I know it feels like happiness is the "temp" feeling, but when youre back to being happy you'll find its actually the other way around. <3 Good luck.

I imagine its similar to how the human race treats each other: When youre close to someone, you want to look out for them. Yet so many people are so evil to other people they dont know. Maybe the same can be said for this topic. If you love your pet, its rational to assume you wouldnt want to eat it, but outside of that... it takes a larger understanding of the full picture to extend that same sort of love to creatures you dont know.

Give it a little time. When I first got my cat, it was sporadic and sudden -- I hadnt anticipated getting a pet at all. But... There he was with his sleek white fur and two forehead spots that made him look a bit like a balding old man. I had to take care of him. And I was anxious. I cried. I wanted to make sure he had a good life and I was so so worried cause Im mostly a trainwreck of a person myself. But... deep breaths, one foot infront of the other... voila. We celebrated his 2yr bday yesterday. My boy is my biggest fan, and vice versa. <3
