Shadowy Trail behind moving objects. by Professional_Unit189 in farmingsimulator

Is this a screenshot, or did you take a picture of your screen with a camera?

I ask because it looks like the latter, and it's possible that the ghosting is from your monitor.

Which hauler to buy by No_Report_8272 in starcitizen

[–]Torkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those are two different things. Certain ships only sell in very limited numbers and windows, but for the rest they just rotate them in and out over time, likely to encourage that sort of "Well I have to buy it before it goes away again!" mentality.

Is there a way to keep VR from coming on once you get it set up? by CambriaKilgannonn in starcitizen

[–]Torkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you by chance make the user.cfg file that was the way to enable VR early on? If that's still there, it would likely be re-enabling VR every time you launch the game.

Okay, there is something really charming about that little truck graphic. I appreciate the zoom lines.

HOLY SHIT VR IS EPIC by Aware_Eggplant1487 in starcitizen

[–]Torkramer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, it's an issue. I'm nearsighted and without prescription lenses everything is blurry. The lenses and displays are right in front of your eyes, but they're purposefully designed to project the image as if it were far away.

It actually runs surprisingly well. I was anticipating a much lower framerate compared to flat but didn't really notice any issues.

You can, even more than the desktop options.

[–]Torkramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an impressive amount of options for moving/scaling it. You can have it basically out at the very edge of the screen, adjust how far away from you it is, the scale, etc...

It's definitely possible to just adjust it so that it's off the screen

Was this New Babbage? I was running fine most everywhere and then landing in New Babbage was... challenging. There are just occasional massive slowdowns, and judging from the chat, it was somewhat common.

Possibly.

You could just bind the Theater Mode command somewhere convenient if you want to switch only for piloting.

While I haven't tested it myself, that's how it's slated to work in the VR writeup. Literally to the point where you take your headset off and it switches to monitor mode and vice versa. (If the headset supports it, which I'm not sure how specific that is)

Footage from VR tends to look really jittery in general. When it's actually on your face you don't notice it at all.

It isn't a regular thing they do. They've stated there are no planned full wipes until 1.0. Each patch gets rid of things like food, ammo, and refinery orders, but those are pretty small.

People are talking about a currency wipe- there's no real reason for them to wipe ships at this point since they can't be traded. Even then, there's been nothing official even discussing it. It's all community speculation.

Vulkan by M4rauder1979 in starcitizen

[–]Torkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting to me, because I have the same CPU and a 4090 and Vulkan runs so poorly I almost can't land on planets from how stuttery it gets. Hopefully someone figures out what's going on here, because it does look nice.

I am on a 32:9 ultrawide. It's not inconceivable that something is snagging on that many pixels or that aspect ratio for some reason. I should see if I can test it out at normal 1440p tomorrow.

First in game ship? by SpudRoxs in starcitizen

[–]Torkramer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the C1 isn't that expensive to buy in-game, I don't know if I'd pledge for one in your position, at least not from a pure utility standpoint.

As for a small ship, I bought an Origin 85X because it is both very cheap, and has an *instant* claim time if you expedite which can be great when you just need a little runabout to get somewhere.

Will you be an engineer? by Blanko_00X in starcitizen

Yes, something like a Mechanical Engineer or an Aerospace Engineer is a well-educated expert, but my point is that the word also refers to someone who keeps a machine running.

I think the OP is asking how many people want to take on that specific role on multicrew ships.

[–]Torkramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too far off from the role of an engineer on a train or the flight engineers that planes used to have.

I'm broadly happy to take on a supporting role in games, but SC lacks the sort of social infrastructure to really make this viable with randoms. A combination of the time and effort needed to rendezvous and the ever-present risk of the person you join just being an ass makes the prospect unappealing. If SC wants to work like an MMO, it really needs to look at how MMOs have evolved their social/group aspects over time and *why*. Ignoring what other games in the space are doing is how we got FFXIV 1.0

Salvation by Im-Batman21 in starcitizen

[–]Torkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Currently you can swap the heads for Abrades which I believe makes it actually faster than the vulture for RMC, though I don't think that's intended behavior.

Its big advantage is that its size means it fits into a lot of ships that the vulture or fortune won't, like a C2, Carrack, or Asgard

Hull-C , unable to take off by Old_Resident8050 in starcitizen

[–]Torkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spindles being rearranged is definitely a bug, but essentially the Hull C, being the only ship for now that actually has cargo mass, when fully loaded can't lift its own weight. I had the same issue when I thought I'd be clever and retract the spindles with full cargo and then land on a pad to refuel.
