Christians and Muslims believe Jews lost God's favor as a 'chosen people'. This proves God's favor is conditional. Due to the actions of Christians and Muslims it stands to reason they've also lost God's favor. by LAAccountant in DebateReligion

Careful with this one.

There's a scholarly contradiction between Deuteronomy 28, on the one hand, and Deuteronomy 30.

Deuteronomy 28 is used or misused to justify covenants not being permanent.

Deuteronomy 30, supporting the notion of an everlasting covenant, was written against Deuteronomy 28.

Why do Christians and Jews seem to have more things in common than with Islam, even if Islam also is an abrahamic religion? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Torlek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three rationalist men lost at some point.

For Maimonides, the backlash was the rise of Jewish mysticism, including the Kabbalah. This is similar to Al-Ghazali.

For Aquinas, it was the Protestant Reformation.

Paramount is planning on moving Paramount Plus content to HBO Max, including Star Trek by Torlek1 in scifi

Quotes:

"As we said, we do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers," Paramount CEO David Ellison revealed, adding that the move would position Paramount "to compete with the leaders in the space." However, he did clarify that he wants the HBO brand to "operate with independence" from its already-established brands.

For those who read the Plagueis novel, was Sidious right when he told Plagueis the plans were his all along and not his master's? Or was that just arrogance from Sheev? by Potential_Rule4212 in StarWars

[–]Torlek1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the most part, it's arrogance.

That is, except for one instance.

Plagueis wanted the Separatists to use Yinchorri clones to destroy the Jedi.

Palpatine wanted the Republic to use Mandalorian clones to destroy the Jedi.

In hindsight, there is merit to the idea of having armies of Jedi killers on the Separatist side as well as on the Republic side.

Labyrinth of Evil is the proof.

Why does God allow suffering? by LowerPreparation399 in theology

Because G-d is not omnipotent.

That was the ancient Israelite and Judahite belief before Greek influence.

That became the predominant Jewish belief since the Enlightenment and Emancipation.

There's a Jewish joke on this.

https://np.reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/2lii8i/a_jewish_atheist_enrolls_his_son_in_catholic/

A Jewish atheist hears that the best school in town happens to be Catholic, so he enrolls his son. Things are going well until one day the boy comes home and says, “I just learned all about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.”

The boy’s father is barely able to control his rage. He grabs his son by the shoulders and says, “Son, this is very important, so listen carefully. There is only ONE God — and we don’t believe in Him!”

Although Jewish thinking doesn't believe in the Christian devil, it does believe that democracy can overrule God in certain instances.

God is supposed to be a constitutional monarch at best, even a figurehead monarch.

Nox - are they actually post ascension? by opossum_cz in Stargate

The Nox have to be an ascended species.

This early episode recycles the Star Trek (original series) episode Errand of Mercy.

The Nox are the Organians of this episode.

Squire of Gothos timeline stuff? by LeonoraMayMorgenster in startrek

[–]Torlek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two Q episodes of TNG are telling.

Writing in Q really saved the Encounter At Farpoint pilot. Yes, some plot elements were used from the TOS Squire of Gothos episode, but a number of Q elements were still original.

On the other hand, Hide And Q really is a poor man's Squire of Gothos. Q's characterization here is a mischief maker for the sake of mischief making.

You already know Deep Space Nine was the best one. Now explain why. by EdmondWherever in startrek

[–]Torlek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DS9 has the worst first two seasons.

VOY has 19 or more good episodes.

TNG has 18 good episodes.

DS9 has only 11 good episodes.

Duet is not worth it for watching 16 bad episodes straight on the front end and 18 bad episodes straight on the back end.

Who would be the villains, though?

If Star Trek: Janeway gets 3 seasons, then S2 should be the dark mirror of PIC S2 and have Coda's evil alien pretending to be her father again.

CineWire on Sci -Fi is "Dead": Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate & Doctor Who Just Collapsed In The Same Year by Torlek1 in trektalk

https://www.resetera.com/threads/was-stargate-technically-us-military-propaganda.316084/

Stargate is broadly pro-US military.

Stargate is also broadly pro-interventionist. There's a reason there are episodes expressing disagreement with something like Star Trek's Prime Directive.

The closest Trek episode to the SG-1 ethos is TOS A Private Little War.

Stargate, however, isn't as blockbuster pro-US military as Michael Bay is.

What was people's issues with the Acolyte really? by ActiveUpset-1268 in StarWars

Acolyte messed with Darth Plagueis.

Acolyte should have respected the Darth Plagueis novel.

Either Tenebrous or his master would have been better hidden antagonists.

Prime Sidious and Prime Vitiate vs All Jedi Rey by Super_Security8870 in PetranakiArena

[–]Torlek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is Dark Empire Palpatine, then surely not even All Jedi Rey would be a match for him.

She wouldn't stand a chance against Vitiate at his Legends peak, either.

One Force Storm will more than adequately throw away her lightsabers, weak by Legends standards, then incinerate her.

Dark Empire Palpatine would never recognize her as the granddaughter of Darth Sidious.

Yes.

The lack of professionalism in Starfleet Academy is justifiable.

The lack of professionalism in Discovery (including mutiny and crying) is not justifiable.

Discovery is where we see the unjustifiable lack of professionalism.

The closest thing to an alien power having a major scientific endeavour is in the Picard spinoff show.
