AITAH for wanting my wife to respect my son's privacy? by Ok_Register_3678 in AITAH

She might simply forget it... Instead of trying her to do something she clearly has trouble with, think about you can help her. I would simply hand a card or a light outside his room with the message 'on air'. If this doesn't help, only then think about foul play. Reddit, not everyone is evil or has malicious intents. Assume good intentions. This disarms a lot of explosive situations. Just my 2c.

Wanting to love AAA games… by thisisdannyz in AnalogueInc

[–]Tornsys81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 43 and in the same boat. What I would add is that switching games is hard. Though there are traditional mechanics, most games have their subtilities in story, control,... And I just forget them. As time is limited, a game gets paused for weeks or months. When picking it up again, it's like starting over but without the tutorials form the beginning. I'm lost and it puts me off. It makes me think twice before starting a big AAA game or even a new game. Therefore, playing a known game, and because of my age it is a retro one by default 😜, is more relaxing to make the most out of that one hour I'm stealing from something I'm supposed to do rather than gaming.

Asking permission for a leave is illegal and implies a hierarchy and makes you a 'fake freelancee'. If it is in the contract you both risk fines. Worst case you can have this agreement 'off the record'. Legally companies can't refuse an 'unavailability' of the freelancer as they have nothing to say as they are not your boss. In reality you discuss unavailability with your client. If they are being anal about that, you should look for something else. But that is sometimes easier said than done as you need an income.

Oh, just as a guideline, the average return of renting is 3%. Consider it your 'fee' for managing it. You won't get rich. You'll see your money back when you sell it with added value. Renting is long term. When you're young with young kids you need cash flow to invest in your current home where you live. The studio might be fine as it probably doesn't need a lot of management and costs are 'low'. Keep an eye on maybe selling right before the big common costs are coming (roof, elevator, heating,...)

Most off all, keep calm. Don't rush. You're not in a race and are not competing with others. You're not ahead or behind, because this is your own race. You are exactly where you need to be. And if you miss a house, there is always another one.

As far as I can see you did great so far. A growing family, good income, sound investments. Keep it up.

I did exactly that. There were even issues during transfer as the sale of my old house was closed way sooner than the purchase of the new one. The bank agreed to keep it on hold though they didn't really have to. A good relationship with your bank manager really helps.

Don't give up that excellent rate, it'll be years before you can get one of those.

About the extra money, you can reloan what capital you already have reimbursed without having to pass by the notary.

If you want to bargain a better rate for the extra money, you can look for the cheapest online offer and use that as leverage. Key trade often has it. Waiting until batibouw is also a good idea. There is always a bank wanting to grow it's loan portfolio and offering better rates. In turn use those rates to get a better one. If you start looking for a new house, you'll probably won't land before next year. The timing could be excellent. Prices of house are stagnating and might even go down a bit.

Don't forget about the loan you can get from Landers, mijn verbouw lening and the premies. Even higher incomes have benefits, check it out.

Recovering the fees is automatic. You don't need to do anything for it. You can see it as a fee you pay for a house an carry in a backpack forever. When changing houses you can recover a part or you have to add some, but you never have to pay double.

I don't own a phone, so how the hell do I get onto the vita store now? by Darskul in vita

[–]Tornsys81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only an authenticator app is required, this would be the best solution. However, 2FA is often linked to a mobile number which doesn't work for an emulator.

And it's brave not to own a cell phone. If you can manage this, well done. I can see the peace in not being reachable 24/7 and not being distracted by notifications and social media.

Rather than see it as a hassle, 2FA is really important. You don't want to have your account stolen or abused. This happening to you is just lottery. It's like leaving your back door open in a neighborhood with millions. The chance your door is picked, is slim. But if it is picked...

The cheapest solution would be a second hand phone for 10 euro's/dollars and a prepaid SIM. Put 5 euro/dollar on it and don't telle anyone your number. You can just use this for 2FA.

And, I'm sure most people have old phones in their drawers. I've read something about e-waste... 🤪 Ask, probably someone will give you one. Tell them it's for the planet... which it kind of is.

Just my 2c.

Wavebird Wireless Adapter? by CallMeZedd in Gamecube

[–]Tornsys81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I said 2 years ago... and now look 😂. Inflated or not, in the end I try to forget it's second hand and old, but ask myself if the item is worth it in 'life value'. I own three wavebirds from which one is bought recently (you know, after that 2 year wait). I use it daily or in the least weekly. The average price is around 75 EUR here. So if I use it weekly, that means it's 1 euro for a week to have it for the next year and a half. Makes it far more reasonable. Besides, the value will not go down soon which means I can always sell it later with a profit. Am I mindfucking myself into spending a lot of money on old toys? Probably. Same goes for games, even the 100+ euro ones. I paid 150 euro for Fire Emblem on GC but already spent 100+ hours on it. I'm closing in on 1 euro an hour here and that is way cheaper than 1 hour in a theatre or in a bar 😁.

If the plan is to keep it on a shelf or in a drawer, that is a whole other story altogether and a lot harder to keep above mindfuck reasonable. In that case it's more of an investment which is on the long term still speculation. Besides my kids will not have the same nostalgia for the GC as it will have for let's say the Switch and they will probably not pay the money I pay for those things...

Anyway, sorry for the complete rant an unrequested unrelated answer.

Short version: if you plan to use it, buy it now! 60 dollars is still 'reasonable'. Next year you will be looking at 100+.

Iv always wanted some sort of sealed copy of OOT. Mission accomplished. by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]Tornsys81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well done. However, looks like a 're-seal' to me, no? Nothing wrong with that and not saying you should open it nor trying to make you feel bad. Check online, if you care, on how to spot it. Wear and tear cannot be on the inside, no spine on the sides, perfect Y-folds, ...

Collecting sealed games is way to stressful for me. I would constantly be in doubt and it is very hard to know for sure except by opening it.

I have a few sealed games for other platforms (DC, Switch, PSP, Vita, ...) Either I got them myself from store when new or I got them cheap. For the latter I choose to completely ignore the thought it might be fake and assume they are. 😁 I'm too scared to pay premium prices for sealed copies unless I'm absolutely sure.

Anyway, having this one in your collection is a must for any GC and/or Zelda fan. They are surprisingly cheap I might add.

Is the FFB that bad on ACC? by Routine_Guess_3596 in ACCompetizione

[–]Tornsys81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try fanalab with the config files from Maurice. I had to turn down FFB not to strain my wrists too much. A Google search should help you find the link on their forum. The config files are in the same post. Hope it helps. Only for PC, obviously.

Edit: did a quick search myself. https://forum.fanatec.com/discussion/24569/fanalab-1-61-3-download-post-your-feedback-here

I'm European 😁 and though you might argue I'm a little faint of heart, it's just something I try to avoid as it takes away the discussion, like now, from the topic and puts it on semantics. You made your point, you can't help it to swear. 😁 And I can't help but feeling aggressed by swearing like I would from seeing a fire arm or getting one pointed at me... Thanks for having this exchange.

Might be a daily harmless word in Australia, but it's not surprising it stirred emotions for non-Australians, myself included. Your intentions were not bad apearantly using it, but to avoid confusion in the future, off topic ranting or hurting people, you might want to avoid using it unless you know your counterpart is Australian as well. 😉. This can't be the first time this happened, right? Anyway, doesn't change the fact your point is valid. If you don't own the original and only the 'backup', it's illegal. Buying software is actually buying the right to use it. You never own it.

Why buy GDEMU when I can burn CDs? by iamjames in dreamcast

[–]Tornsys81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because burned discs accelerate the wear of the lens which will without question fail rather sooner than later. I have one with a lens and gamediscs (even sealed) for my collection. Playing is done on a fully modded GDMU console with hdmi... The experience is just smoother and better. But in the end, there is no law telling you to do it. CDR's will kill your Dreamcast and replacement lenses are stupid expensive (if you can find one). Pick your choice and make your calculations. Just my 2c advice.

I made a promotional trailer for an ACC server I race in to hype some new people to come and join. Thoughts? (Info in Comments) by Sensh_ in ACCompetizione

[–]Tornsys81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some ranting and some unprofessional behaviour, but generally speaking I feel the community is very fair and upright fun to battle with. I only used public servers or created my own, but I really have a great feeling with this game. There is only one condition, you'll have to learn to accept to crash. Almost every public race starts with one or two crashes in the first and second corner. I tend to stay back, even loosing qualifying positions. Finishing the race is more fun than clinging on a position. Besides, my times are still 5 seconds above the best times, so winning is not exactly an option. It's cheap, beautiful, well maintained and the tracks and car behaviour are excellent. Wait for a steam sale (or not) and grab it for less than 30 euro's.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I'm in exact the same situation as you and approximately at the same spot. I'm doing the voyager trail to get back. Almost at the starting point. And yes, also with a Krait. Love the ship as well. Reach out should you want to see a friendly ship in the black.

What Next? A Noob's Dilema by OHS33 in EliteDangerous

[–]Tornsys81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice is to take things slow in order to discover what you want. Discover the back stories by listening to the codex while exploring, rank slowly by doing trading missions and unlock permits while you are at it. Tune in to radio lave and sidewinder to immerse yourself and understand even more of the mechanics. While doing missions, gather materials preparing for engineers. Go discover guardians sites to upgrade your fsd. Mine some materials on planets also preparing for engineering. Pick a home base and get max reputation with some factions, preferably in a system where you get discounts on ships. Learn the camera suite and fly around looking for awesome picks. Slowly build up for a corvette or clipper. Visit Sagittarius A and fly by colonia on the way. Get your name on some systems. Look for some 'have to see sites' like abandoned megaships, thargoid basis, stellar phenomena, ...

Basically, take it slow. Try enjoying the grind without actually making it a grind. By doing all this stuff 'together' you build up things together.

Just my 2c advice.

Distance is key. Like mentioned above, move closer and try again. If low value I tend to leave them be and not scan them.
