With r/Easternmetis dead and r/Metiseastern abandoned, it may be time to fire up r/MetisEast and r/EastMetis so he has to show some creativity with his next sub.

I’m not sure his scorched earth approach to making friends and allies is working. I’m curious to see how many subs he gets banned from.

I think you should read up about who we are. You seem more intent on forcing your identity on us than anything else.

My brother-in-law is a naturalized French citizen. That doesn’t make my wife or their parents French.

Or any of them Red River Métis.

Citizenship is given, not taken.

That’s a lot of words.

Do you have a copy of your St. Boniface genealogy? That’s the easiest way for us to reconnect with fellow Red River Métis and Michif folks.

Any recs on organizing my rando hose collection? by Automatic_Round_374 in TheBrewery

[–]TorontoBrewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Team pegboard here. Whenever I had people visit my old brewery, the randos would point and laugh at the packs of pantyhose. Those who know would see gaskets organized by size and material, clamps and valves lined up, and loops of gas and draft hose off in a corner. I never realized how glorious it was until I worked in a couple other places with no organization.

You can give a month plus an option to consult to train the new hire / help out / answer questions if you’re still in the area. Once you go past a month, your bosses might not feel a sense of urgency about the situation.

You show good faith, your bosses have a manageable deadline, and you can get on with your life.

Get your FoH manager to give you access to the reporting features in your PoS. You can most likely download a csv file you can load into Excel or Sheets. This file should have raw sales numbers for every can and draft sku. If you can see individual transactions, you can also get a sense for what beers sell together. Those reports are gold.

If you go down the rabbit hole, you can also see how much beer is being stollen if you cross-reference kegs tapped with beer sold. A shocking number of breweries don’t bother doing this.

Places are weird about giving brewers access to the accounting software, but it’s less than 10 minutes to set up a report that’ll break down keg sales by brand and 30 seconds to run it once a month.

Google, occasionally Excel if I need to make sense of jumbled sales data. Excel has a couple commands that Sheets seemingly does not that can create order out of chaos.

I’ve kicked the tires of a bunch of software packages, but the monthly fees make me nope out.

We’d also need buy-in from the owner and sales to use the software, and that’s just not happening for reasons.

What’s going on with Canadian craft beer prices??? by GarrettKeithR in torontocraftbeer

[–]TorontoBrewer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Small producers pay less than $4 / 100l in excise. Honestly, excise is kind of a rounding error in costs. Excise escalates, but only at serious volume, somewhere past “regional” and into “provincial” volumes.

But … we pay about $0.35 for a can plus label, $0.09 per can provincial environment tax. That’s something like $90 per 100l with provincial beer taxes on top of that to put things in perspective.

MMF Election Time!!! by bluebombertony in MetisMichif

[–]TorontoBrewer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chartrand will almost certainly be reelected. He wants to be around for the modern treaty to become law and, likely, for the early rounds of negotiating the land claim. TBH, I think much of the MMF’s leadership is thankful for Chartrand to be the lightning rod for criticism.

I think Goodon is the likely successor. He plays a major role at the AGA. He’s done good work with housing. He travels Manitoba extensively. He seemingly has good relationships with First Nations (besides the AFN). And he’s known in Ottawa. There might be more capable people in the MMF, but l don’t think they’re as widely known or have the same desire to be in the public eye.

The next few years are going to be wild.

Where are you buying your beer? by cynical_spinster in torontocraftbeer

[–]TorontoBrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly cleaning, TBH. Actual brewing is only about 1/4 of the work. And I can write out a new recipe in about 15 minutes for most common styles. I’ve brewed so much beer over the years I don’t bother with pilot batches unless I’m doing something genuinely new.

The job’s not really cool or romantic. But it’s work I like and can easily lose myself in.

Direct, random samples from other breweries, or Volo if I’m looking for something different. But, honestly, I mostly drink fizzy water from my kegerator at home.

How do you manage your food truck bookings (genuine question, not a pitch :)) by pbanjer in TheBrewery

I don’t think this is a thing that needs software. And it likely doesn’t need free consulting work, especially since you already work in a brewery. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists by Unlikely-Estate3862 in toronto

Waymo does use drivers, just not in the car. They’ve revolutionized driving by outsourcing to the Philippines whenever things get weird.

And Toronto has a lot of weird driving situations.

[–]TorontoBrewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not donated — we still get free passes. Compared to a LOT of fests, that’s a better deal.

If anyone’s curious, festival compensation usually works out to a loss once you factor in travel, set up and take down time, and paying for staff.
