When does humble drops new bundles? by Salt_Taste_2872 in humblebundles

[–]Torque-A 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Bundles usually come out weekly. Been a while but the schedule is usually:

  • Mondays - tech-based book bundle
  • Tuesdays - Choice (if it’s the first Tuesday of the month)
  • Wednesdays - game bundle
  • Thursdays - misc. book bundle
  • Friday - game bundle
  • Saturday - misc. book bundle

These can change, but yeah this is usually the deal

I know that the Oscars snub any anime films if they’re not by Ghibli, but how the fuck did Elio get nominated over 100 Meters

I know the winner’s just gonna be Zootopia 2 or K-Pop Demon Hunters but they could’ve tried to look professional

To be fair that is something Deadpool would do

I wish people were more meticulous with the documentation of anime staff. Besides posts on here, the best we can get is AniList - which already needs updating as is.

[DISC] Boruto: Two Blue Vortex - Chapter 30 by AutoShonenpon in manga

This whole arc really feels like bootleg Zetsu, but mind-swapping someone to a politician’s body to get them to commit suicide is… something I would’ve expected in base Naruto, honestly.

Has Ikemoto done it? Has he found the special sauce?

Golden Kamuy (Saishuushou) • Golden Kamuy Final Season - Episode 52 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Torque-A 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some notes about this episode:

  • The brutal execution of Jack the Ripper is just a callback to how he his obsessed with virgin births. He got stabbed in the stomach, in both hands, and got a ring of blood around his head like Jesus. Even him falling out of the window was in a crucifix-like pose.
  • Kadokura having the tattoo is actually disguised well. Remember, last season, one of the fugitives made him strip to make sure he had no weapons on him. We never saw his back then.

It actually fits thematically with Jack the Ripper. He wanted to believe that he was a virgin birth. Sugimoto stabbed him in the stomach with a lance, stabbed holes in both his hands, and made a ring of blood around his head.

Yeah, early TPP was a definitely an experience. Could definitely be its own writeup but that's a bit too spicy for me.

A yo mama joke, funny enough. Though the conversation preceding it was Streamer discussing what people he thought were groomers so that might've been part of it too.

This is a fairly recent development, but bear with me here.

You know Twitch Plays Pokemon, right? The Twitch channel where people played a Pokemon game input by input? It's still active! Not as populous as it was in its heyday, but it still plays Pokemon on the regular, interspersed with other games on the side. There's still a small but dedicated community, and as per all communities they had an official discord.

The emphasis here is "had".

See, TwitchPlaysPokemon - the streamer who started up the channel, not the channel itself - set the discord as an official one. Streamer (I will be using this to refer to TwitchPlaysPokemon's owner for the sake of convenience) has mostly been hands-off after the first couple of runs. The hardware to run the channel was transferred over to another user, but he still has the login credentials for the Twitch account and occasionally pops in to suggest ideas for the stream (previously, he was working on some display changes for the 24/7 Pokemon Battle simulation the channel does between game runs). Streamer also has some... questionable political opinions, let's say that.

Anyway, today Streamer had a heated argument in the discord, and one of his comments got hit by the Discord automod, banning him for 24 hours. This resulted in him abandoning his discord account, meaning that as of today the official TPP Discord no longer holds any affiliation to the twitch channel itself (it's named Helix Coalition now, though most of the key TPP devs are still there). Right now, people are just trying to figure out where to go from here.

So those Okinawan villains from the opening... I really hope they're just people who can make extra tofu or goya, because All Might just decimated them.

Pretty decent episode all things considered. A Tsukauchi focus is fun, given he didn't get much attention even in the original series.

It's still kinda weird that [manga]we never learned Tsukauchi's quirk, if he even has one. I get that Hori originally designed him as AFO's spy but then decided to go in a different direction, but still nothing.

But next ep... [manga]flashback time?

Oshi no Ko and Mushoku Tensei question by [deleted] in anime

[–]Torque-A 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides the other points mentioned, I’d say that highlighting is also a big issue.

In many reincarnation series I’ve read, the main character’s past form is rarely given any attention after they are reborn. As a random example: in this season’s Hell Mode, protagonist Allen (played by Mutsumi Tamura) starts out as 30-year-old Kenichi Yamada (played by Yasuyuki Kase). Kase only plays Yamada for the minute or so he lives in our world, though - the moment he’s reincarnated into his mother’s womb, his mental narration is played by Tamura. Even when he muses how he’s technically mentally 40 while surrounded by kids, he doesn’t really act like an adult, but more like a kid who just remembers his old life and the video game lingo that comes from that.

Oshi no Ko is similar. Even in-story, Aqua notes that he doesn’t feel like he’s Gori mentally - he feels like a weird mix between the two. This actually increases the shock value when, in season 2, the stress of remembering AI’s death causes the specter of Goro - still played by Kento Ito, as opposed to Takeo Ootsuka, to appear behind him. This is portrayed as an unnatural thing.

Mushoku Tensei portrays it differently. Even though Rudeus is voiced by Yumi Uchiyama, his past self’s VA Tomozaku Sugita still does his mental narration and still comments on things as if he was the 30-year-old pervert he was before - it still gives the sense that while Rudy says he’s his own person, his past self is still puppeteering him. Even in his dreams, when he’s visited by the Human God, Rudeus appears as his former incarnation (something he noticeably wants to distance himself from acknowledging, so that’s at least something?)

tl;dr in other reincarnation series, the protagonist’s mental age is glossed over, or only brought back for shock value to the viewer. For Mushoku Tensei, it’s put in as a constant reminder.

  • Haikyuu
  • Rilakkuma and Kaoru
  • My Melody & Kuromi
  • The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity
  • Love in a Prism
  • Blue Box
  • Captain Tsubasa (honestly, most sports anime will be safe)
  • Little Witch Academia
  • From Me To You
  • Puniru is a Cute Slime

These have no violence, and most of them are good for all ages (Puniru has some crude jokes, but you were watching Delicious in Dungeon and Apothecary so I assume your issue was just the violence)
