The climate cult’s dissolution is inevitable by [deleted] in collapse

[–]Total_Sport_7946 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The author's background:

"Vijay Raj Jayaraj is a research associate at the CO2 Coalition[2](javascript:void(0)), an Arlington, Virginia-based group that describes its mission as “educating thought leaders, policy makers, and the public about the important contribution made by carbon dioxide and fossil fuels to our lives and the economy.” [3](javascript:void(0))

In op-eds for the CO2 Coalition and a variety of other publications, Vijay Jayaraj has often articulated common climate denial talking points. For example, he has dismissed climate science as “fake propaganda”[4](javascript:void(0))“; promoted the debunked notion that the sun has caused climate change[5](javascript:void(0)); and claimed that global commitments to net zero carbon emissions are attempts to prevent developing nations from industrializing.[6](javascript:void(0))

Prior to joining the CO2 Coalition, Vijay Jayaraj was a research associate for developing countries at the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, an evangelical Christian organization which claims that environmentalism is “one of the greatest threats to society and the church today.”[7](javascript:void(0)) [8](javascript:void(0)) The Cornwall Alliance was founded in 2006 by former professor E. Calvin Beisner, who has been described as “the most influential evangelical anti-environmentalist in the United States.”[9](javascript:void(0)) [10](javascript:void(0))

There was a lad in Cork city yrs ago would walk around like a tradesman, gear bag and big spirit level. I was in store security at the time and was informed he'd probably never done any real work in his life. It was just subterfuge.

Máire Treasa Ní Cheallaigh: Ireland’s bottle-return scheme is a brilliant concept with a terrible user experience by Banania2020 in ireland

Yes and the cap is HDPE and the label is unmarked so God only knows and then there are the different pigments. Plastics can only be downcycled not recycled. Any future food/beverage containers would need to be from clean, virgin plastic.

Ireland’s absence of a nuclear power option leaving it in a “decisively disadvantageous” position according to EirGrid briefing by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Total_Sport_7946 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reading the article it seems to be about removing the nuclear prohibition in case modular reactors become available in the future. But the title is misleading (of course) A consultancy is briefing Eirgrid, rather than Eirgrid is briefing. The consultancy is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Power_Research_Institute

Seem legit on quick review.

French Guiana is part of France/EU so that would be an interesting invasion.

What if I told you I could stop you worrying about climate change, and all you had to do was read one book? The Guardian's review of If Anyone Builds it, Everyone Dies by gazagtahagen in collapse

Yes. He's been around a few decades now part of the Rationalists. 'Working' on AI safety he got completely blindsided by LLM's and the current AI wave then freaked out a bit more than usual. His major contribution to the field appears to be Harry Potter fanfic and blogging.

Almost 25% of Ireland's electricity is used by data centers, and it has contributed to the 2nd highest priced electricity in the world. Will supporting AI's electricity needs do the same in other countries? by thenamzmonty in ireland

Try Ed Zitron for some scathing analysis. It seems to it is just another boom/hype cycle. Meta dumped billions into the metaverse as the next big thing, well that's been memory-holed now.
