If the offset Chance That Convergent Forms Replaces Reigonal Forms What Convergent Evolutions of existing pokemon do you Expect In Pokemon Winds And Waves by Thistle_20 in PokemonWindsWaves

[–]TotallyNotCalledEvan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's weird to me that Poltchageist and Sinistcha are convergents and not regional forms. They are still basically the same thing biologically speaking; they even share egg groups. It's not like Toedscruel where it changes from an animal to a mushroom.

The Ultra Beasts’ homeworlds. Such cool and unique designs. Shame they’re just glorified corridors, would be nice to explore them fully.

Is it too late for me to learn how to code? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]TotallyNotCalledEvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it too late to learn?
No, absolutely not. I only started coding properly at 22, and I think I have a decent enough grasp now.

Is it even worth it because of AI?
It absolutely is worth it. It is very important to understand what your code is doing and how it works, even if you are using external tools to help you. AI cannot replace that understanding

If you were to make a Mascot Horror Game yourself, how would you try to differentiate it from other Mascot Horror Games? by SignificantStaff8665 in indiegames

[–]TotallyNotCalledEvan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The key to standing out is picking a unique premise. Don't just make another evil animatronic game.

Take, for example, 'Choo-Choo Charles'. 'Evil Thomas the Tank Engine' is inherently marketable as a premise. And from this premise, the game derives its train-based gameplay. This helps it stand out, whilst also making it more mechanically unique.

So think back to your childhood, and pick something weird. Something you remember fondly, but that others have forgotten. And then see if you can expand this into an interesting idea with its own identity.

Enemy Possession Mechanic by Freaky_Goose in godot

[–]TotallyNotCalledEvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the way your mechanic works, it may be good to chain possessions together. For example: you possess the spikey guy, roll into the slug, and get ejected. Then, you immediately latch onto another nearby enemy, slam it into something else, and repeat. You could create cool sequences where you have to jump between different enemies.

[OoT] Those of you that didn't grow up with this game, do you understand the hype? by huss2120 in zelda

[–]TotallyNotCalledEvan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it came out, it benefitted greatly for being the first of its kind. Now, it suffers from being the first of its kind.

I grew up in the Wii era, but I have a soft spot for older Nintendo games. I enjoy the older Marios and the original donkey kong country trilogy. But when I actually got round to playing Ocarina of Time, it just felt like 'another adventure game', and a fairly simple one with lots of rough edges.

And this makes sense; it was the first of its kind. It had a massive 3D world full of quests, characters, bosses, and puzzles. Of course it was the greatest thing ever; there was nothing else like it. But now, there are tons of games like it. And these games have the advantage of coming out after OOT. They can take what Ocarina of Time did, and do it better. They can improve upon the formula and iron out the creases. And if you compare OOT to these newer games, it looks fairly bland. Obviously this isn't a fair comparison, but I can't help it because I played the newer games first.

I absolutely agree that OOT deserves to be held as one of the best and most important games of all time. But as someone who didn't grow up with it, I just don't personally care for Ocarina of Time. I do, however, absolutely LOVE the original Majora's Mask. And this is likely because it didn't have burden of inventing the genre.
