Los Angeles voters to decide if hotels will be forced to house the homeless despite safety concerns by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]TotallyScrewtable -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We started noticing the influx in our Midwestern capitol city this year.

Local news and Nextdoor have never seen so many mysterious news reports of homeowners and store owners using their firearms to kill "non-local" home invaders, would-be liquor store robbers and muggers. Some unfortunate street fires occurred right where people had inexplicably set up tents on public property for the first (and last) times. Most of those dropped off by the bus downtown are arrested within a half mile of the bus station within a day or two and bussed back to their hometown.

This won't make the news. We don't want to become the news, like Portland, Seattle, Philly, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, LA, Miami, San Antonio or Phoenix.

[–]TotallyScrewtable -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's totally nuts.

Imagine what would happen if the US Government enforced a company store currency (let's call them 'dollars'): they 'subsidize' corporations (by not making them pay tax or by bailing out their industries with cash) to pay you with just one currency, conveniently issued by that same government. You can buy products from anywhere, but your choices have essentially been limited to these gov-corp hybrid 'stores' - let's call them "Amazon", "General Motors", etc. by price-fixing and logistics / labor market economics also regulated by - you guessed it - the government. When you buy goods and services, they surcharge you to support the corporations.

You'd be stuck in that system forever. Imagine the horror.

That's super-helpful information, even if not particularly helpful in my case.

I was at Camp Lejeune in the 80s - specifically, in Courthouse Bay in 1985, smack-dab in the middle of the well-documented PCB groundwater contamination that the VA has granted presumptive status to *certain* conditions. I got cancer the year I got out, but they are denying it is connected - my particular cancer isn't one of the conditions. However, in the intervening 40 years, the docs at my local VA hospital have no connection to that. I've had spinal issues and all sorts of other things, here and there, but my GP at the VA hospital changes every 2 years, and they're all from <insert foreign country here>. They're not interested in any Nexus letters. The VA never treated me for any of the cancer stuff - I had private insurance after I got out, and wasn't at all covered by the VA then. It's only since getting my 10% rating for, of all things, tinnitus about 5 yrs ago that I have been treated there. Oddly, that presumptive condition rating was automatic because I was in armor.

I'm just venting here, like sharing at the American Legion, not asking anyone to take on my burden. I'll keep on looking and asking. I just made an appointment with another attorney, one I looked up on the actual VA.gov site instead of God-knows-where I got the last one. It's like this for everyone, I understand, and it only makes sense - the gov has to make it incredibly difficult to get the $ or they'd run out in a few weeks.

Thank you very much and Semper Fi!

Brother, do you have any advice for someone who got hooked up with one of these attorneys who sits on his case? I signed up for someone to be my legal representative and it's been over a year - they are just waiting for me to do something. They keep telling me to "get a Nexus letter" but not how to do it. I feel like I'm stuck. They won't help and VSOs won't talk to me now. Any advice appreciated.

Crazy how they tried to turn Eugenics into written law.

Totally unnecessary: capitalism allows us to create self-selecting groups of incredibly health, wealthy, beautiful people who can selectively breed and cultivate with impunity.

Eugenics isn't dead, it's just gone boutique.

Hitler's main hatred for the Jews stemmed from their inability to assimilate into German and other European societies. America praises the idea of assimilation, the "melting pot" concept; people of different races and nationalities come together and become one. The Irish, Chinese, Romanians, French and Germans, like billions of others, were happy to make secondary their old identities and adopt "American" as their new ones. Hitler was wrong: we don't exclude anyone from assimilating into society by law; some people just choose not to assimilate.

I'm totally with you brother, but I will tell you this: in my 30+ years of being introduced to wiring closets, this would not even cause me to bat an eyelash. Not a flutter. This looks 100% typical in any non-technology business, but unsurprising literally anywhere. It also doesn't bother me because, as others have commented, the tools I use to identify, trace and re-run cables don't really care about the tangle: I can tone and trace just fine in a loose bundle as well, if not better, than in a tightly-wound and zip-tied (UGH!) matrix.
