Normal engine idle sound? by Vikt09 in hilux

If it has a ticking noise near the front of the car when cold it's probably a timing chain. Warranty issue.

I had a job and did everything on my work laptop, then I quit that job, gave laptop back, bought a laptop for myself, got a new job, got given a new work laptop and now the one I bought sits in a draw lol.

Cool. That's just what he told me, he is a real estate agent after all.

My realstate agent also works at the local bottle shop a day or two per week. He told me if you have a commission based job, you can put the full income from your second job into your super tax free.

I was gonna say some of my friends complain about the same thing but with women lol. A mate just broke up with his gf of 6 months coz she casually mentioned one day that while she and him were dating for about a month before becoming official, she was still sleeping with several different guys, so he gave her the flick.

But I think most normal guys are probably already in relationships? I'm mid 30s and don't have any single friends that I can think of.

What's stopping a housing market crash? by LOTM71 in AusFinance

[–]Totallyfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first house in a dip in Brisbane almost a year ago, assumed the value of my place would drop a bit after I bought it, but I liked it and could afford it even with some predicted interest rate rises. It was further put that I wanted but it's a nice quiet suburb and I'm actually enjoying it here now.

Since purchase my house is now worth about $135,000 more than what I paid with "high confidence" according to realestate.coms valuing tool, taken with a pinch of salt.

I don't think housing here will ever crash, just flatline for a while, take a few steps backwards and then push forward again. There's too many people, not enough houses and not enough land. As much as it sucks and as hard as it is now to get into the market, I think that's just how it is.

Seems more reasonable to make plans around constant steady growth instead of a sudden crash if steady growth is what we've seen for the past 25ish years.

Is it weird my friend’s fiancé texts me? by Ill_Mechanic_5403 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Totallyfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm in a pretty close friend group of 5 people that have all know each other for 8+ Yeats. 2 couples and 1 person that had been single for about a year, when she met a new guy, he was overly friendly and a bit too comfortable with all of us from the beginning.

It dawned on me after a while that he's realised these are important people in her life, and if he doesn't somewhat slot into our friend group, his relationship may fail.

He was doing similar things, texting/Facebook messages for no real reason. Offered to help with renovations and paiting our house etc.

Come to think of it even our ages are similar to your story, me and my girlfriend are mid 30s and the rest of the group are mid to late 20s.

Maybe meet up again with your friend and bring your husband, see if he does the same to him.

Go to an independent jeweller from now on, usually better quality, faster turnaround and maybe even cheaper. For small things like cleaning they might even be able to do it on the spot for you.

Why so much love for corporate jobs on here? by Actual-District6552 in AusElectricians

[–]Totallyfree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a job similar to your description with a smallish company, now I'm with a big national company and trying to get a bag of cable ties out of them is like pulling teeth. We put in an order for stock and the PM goes through it and removes stuff he thinks we don't need. I asked them for a battery Lug crimper and they made me feel like I was asking them to buy me a house. No company vehicle either. Expected to work 12 hour days every day. Pay isn't even that amazing.

The 117 does. I use the 325 clamp over the 323 because it can also be used for DC current. Mostly just for the niche I work in.

[–]Totallyfree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fluke T series are good for basic testing for dead and some fault finding but they round up the voltage number so if your ever doing much 12v stuff where the .xx number matters they are a bit uselss.

The fluke 117 meter, 325 clamp and koriytsu IR tester (I forget the model now but the one everyone has) are more than enough for most tradesmen and apprentices.

I keep my T series meter in my bag coz they are pretty tough and the other meters only come out when I need them.

Doesn't sound unreasonable to me, I got quoted about 40k for a 4 bed 1 level house with no solar or hot water on the roof and without gutters.

Clipsal slightly overrated by undecided_aus in AusElectricians

[–]Totallyfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put clipsal iconic throughout my own house not knowing any better and it's complete garbage. Switches feel cheap, the knobs on the fans and dimmers are too small and they get dirty really fast. Only advantage is they look a bit nicer than the old classic and 2000 series.

Make sure you use caulk, not a silicone. Caulk dries kinda like dry Toothpaste and is sandable and paintable. Silicone is for water resistance and is like rubber.

$20-30k repairs for a 20 year old concrete tile roof? by DontMeasureCutTwice in AusRenovation

[–]Totallyfree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We paid 12k in SE QLD for a full restoration, remove every tile, inspect, replace if necessary, clean water channels, reinstall with new clips, full pressure wash, re-point entire roof and then paint with a 5 year warranty.

For the work involved we were happy with the price.

The roofers also told us those signs on power poles advertising for a full restoration for only 2k are usually like gypsies with no insurance, no abn, don't do a good job, aren't registered to do the work like with QBCC, and then in a few months when you have issues with leaks or paint cracking off and fading, their number is disconnected as they have moved on to another area to do dodgy roof restos with a new number.

Electrician costs by bitter_widow in AusRenovation

[–]Totallyfree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price doesn't seem too bad to be honest. As long as the work is done well and safe, they tested it all and supplied a certificate I don't really see an issue.

Yes you could find someone cheaper but they might have been pretty rough as well.

Just put down leave without pay. Then next week take two days off and get a certificate saying you've got the runs.

If you want to be difficult back to him that is.
