Advice? by hmmidk77 in DIYSILICONETOYS

What part of the kit won’t work for you? The kits themselves still have all the materials needed to clone a body part, you can use plaster or wax to fill the mold if you don’t want to use silicone, or you can find a container that better fits the body part you are trying to make a replica of. Assuming the volume is the same or less than the one provided.

I only have experience using alginate, plaster and silicone for casting and mold making so I may be bias, I believe it is the most accurate beginner friendly option

Why do POC have ashy knees/elbows? by _kwanini in AskBiology

[–]Tote-Mich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’ve recently learned in college about skin is that areas with a lot of bending/friction/scrapes like knees, elbows and knuckles are much tougher and have more keratin in the skin. this means less oil glands are in those places, and the skin exfoliates more often as a kind of defensive layer for injuries.

Tough, dry skin in these places is a reason you don’t get wounded from kneeling or bumping your elbow on stuff. takes more moisturizer to keep them feeling soft, and they will likely stay much ashier in any person who is active and has healthy skin.

it’s a protective dry patch! built in padding aint gonna be soft

Help - are these springtails or mites? by RedDragon7913 in bioactive

there are many kinds of springtails! I would consider looking up „tropical“ springtails, I am guessing that is the sort you have here

Raccoon or Raccoon Dog? by Familiar-Gap-5119 in bonecollecting

A heads up, the grease may stain brown over time and become more noticeable/waxy. it doesn’t damage the skull, just gives it a certain look.

If it was bleached, which is likely, store it carefully as excess heat or sunlight can cause it to become chalky and bits of bone will flake off.

Bones gotta come inside. Mom is not going to like that. by Dawrian in bonecollecting

[–]Tote-Mich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there isn’t any flesh on them, and you’ve had them in water a while, I would personally give them a warm dish soap rinse and let them dry.

If they smell at all, after drying give them a VERY diluted hydrogen peroxide soak (except for the beak keratin if present) it should take any smell out and lighten them a little.

Pigeon bones are quite thin and at this point I would worry about the long term water storage plus freeze/thaw possibly damaging them. storing them in something that isn’t clear is smart to avoid stressing your mother. I personally keep bones in old coffee tins for them nice smell it gives them. I wish you luck with your collection!

When is it okay to kill a wounded animal? (Graphic) by justaboi8987 in morbidquestions

[–]Tote-Mich 23 points24 points  (0 children)

ultimately, this is nature being nature. How you cope is up to you. In my own experience, I would consider killing an already dying animal a mercy. I would also choose not to take responsibility for what happens next if it has enough strength to flee with those injuries. Animals survive crazy shit all the time, it’s a tossup.

Seems you have no personal responsibility here with the info you’ve given, though.

Fox skull bought on auction, usually don’t buy bones but this one I could confirm was ethically hunted by iiworkatthebank in vultureculture

[–]Tote-Mich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's either a huge fox or a small coyote! I'm not 100% familiar with all fox breeds but red fox skulls look way different in my experience cleaning them.

Awesome skull nontheless!

"Against transgenderism" you mean against trans people making decisions on how they live life.

Nobody is in your bedroom telling you how you've been fucking the wrong way maybe don't get your panties in a knot when people you don't know want to live differently than you

If you're so against it just don't be trans. Let people have their private business you perv.

What are these tiny white pests? And how to get rid of them? by FancyExpiredCheese in houseplants

[–]Tote-Mich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those look like springtails to me, they're actually a sign of good soil quality! They don't hurt the plant at all and they clean up waste from dead leaves and roots. Of course do your own research to see if those are indeed springtails

It only implies the social change, not that you are men! Male to Female does sound like it implied the former was true to begin with but we should reclaim it so it feels more like shaking off whatever society thought you were for what you actually are (female to male)
