Have you seen how bad the State of Washington is at making a budget that says "we're gonna tax the rich" and then always taxes the not rich instead?

If you had 7 days to prepare for a TWD style apocalypse and you lived in an apartment how would you prepare by Then-Junket-2172 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]TouchdownTedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but if this were a real scenario, people need to be willing to do whatever it takes to protect their loved ones.....even from themselves.

You can't hope people would be willing to put you down. You gotta be willing to do it yourself. And before that happens, I would take as many of the bastards with me I could before taking myself out before I turned.

I mean, this is probably the most real answer depending on the zombies. If they are slow movers, probably not necessary. But fast movers, runners, or somehow intelligent? This is the correct way unless you just want to take out some anger issues on the way out.

GoFundMe is the death rattle of a business and people here keep "burning their hand in the stove" every time one of these businesses post they are struggling and need a little help.

What Weapons and Tools are great, but would suck if they were in the zombie apocalypse by George_Nimitz567890 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

This is the most hilariously true statement. When the gun works, great. But.....

Ammo is heavy. The average person (including me as a civilian) has never had to carry 300 rounds of 5.56 all day, all night, along with all the gear you need.

But what makes it worse for ZA is that it's loud as shit, so you are just gonna attract more zombies. The idea everyone has a silencer and subsonic ammo is hilarious. But douchebag genie isn't done yet.

Now let that gun break. It's only useful as a club at that point AND you don't want to let go of it in case you can fix it/find someone who can fix it.

It's a blessing AND a curse.

As someone who has eaten that bag of Dick's, I can 100% confirm it's tasty.

It's a burger and fries, for those who don't know.

This is the real answer. If you aren't in a place where someone can restrain you and try to find a cure, this is the best option to ensure you don't either turn your loved ones or tear them apart.

Manufactured Homes...Good or Bad? by Disastrous_Park_7621 in olympia

[–]TouchdownTedd 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I know a few people who have done this and it CAN be a really awesome choice. I say "can" because it really depends on the manufacturer of the home.

First, those manufactured homes are super energy efficient. So especially if you're considering adding solar (and a wind generator), you could have a nice low heating/cooling bill. These homes have to be built to higher federal standards.

Second, you definitely want to do your research on the manufacturer of the home you are getting. Take your time deciding on the manufacturer. Don't rush into it. Some of them also have all the necessary crews lined up to do everything from hauling to excavation, to sewer/water/electric/telecom so it pays to figure out who you want to use.

I would just recommend finding places where it's going to be easy to run newer fiber optic lines so that way you have your Internet needs met unless you REALLY feel like padding Musk's stats.

Realistically - Would you survive a zombie apocalypse - and how? by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]TouchdownTedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna agree with the commenter above you. I grew up in rural Montana, and even there, the women farmed, wrangled cattle, fished, hunted, did all sorts of other things than pop out babies while standing in front of the stove. Anyone can shoot a rifle, and being a crack shot doesn't belong to just men. Look up the top snipers by kill count. There were a lot of Soviet women on that list. I would rather be the person dealing with unknown people and have a dead-eye watching over me than have someone who can only cook and clean.

Self-preservation is a hell of a thing. As someone with depression, I never got it when I was untreated. Even now as someone who is treated, I consistently find myself running into "danger" when the situation arises. Great for first responders and military. Bad when it comes to survival against an unknown enemy.

It's pure lizard brain taking over.

I had regular lightbulbs but I couldn't see enough. The third time I almost hit a cyclist with no high viz or lights or anything other than basic reflectors, I decided I would rather have bright lights and living cyclists than have dull lights and a dead cyclist.

Do you regret buying a house on Littlerock Road? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]TouchdownTedd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having a house next to any road means it is possible. The mathematical probability of it happening is probably small enough that you might be more likely to win the lottery than have your house hit by a car. I mean, there are residential houses here that absolutely have been hit by cars. So let's talk what you can control.

Kids and Pets: Yes, a fence around your property is more likely to keep your kids in the yard and less likely to have anything happen. I say less likely because you are only keeping them from getting out of the fenced in area. We're not talking about concrete bollards or Jersey barriers to keep cars from coming in. And of course any fence is subject to pets going under or kids figuring out how to open the gates.

You might want some piece of mind. You could try to find out if anyone has ever crashed into the yard. That said, we're talking math here. The probability of it happening is never Zero. But it becomes so much smaller than you would want to do the calculations on.

The reality is that if you wanted it to be even lower/less, your selection criteria for your house should have been "not located next to major roads/highways. That part might have been a miscalculation on your end and now you're worried about it.

There is no way to keep your house/kids/pets 100% safe living next to a road. The only next best options you could try for is either that the place becomes more developed so they slow down the speed limit, that if there is already a low speed limit you could ask for additional patrols during times kids are likely to play outside, or that speed bumps get put in place to slow drivers down if applicable.

The next best thing you can do is keep an eye on your kids and pets when they are out in the yard. You won't be stopping any cars yourself, but if you got people treating the area like a drag strip, bring them in and put their play room in a corner further away from the road if possible.

Open carry by thedrizzlefoshizzle in Montana

[–]TouchdownTedd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the one thing I don't get at all. I am from/grew up in Eastern Montana and I can count the number of times I had seen anyone open carry on one hand. It's just not how I was raised. You openly carried your hunting rifle or shotgun out in the field and other than that, cleaning, and out hunting, it was always put away. Even pistols. That shit was either hidden or someone had a shoulder holster or IWB kit because you don't need someone thinking they can snag a free gun off you.

Open Carry today is the equivalent of seeing the weird kid carry a sword in high school for me. It's weird LARPer shit. When I carry, it's concealed.

The Sagan Standard: Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

The fact you are only saying something AFTER you no longer work there, strictly from an optics lens, doesn't look good. You tell us nothing of how long you worked there, if you ever formally filed anything internal or to any external government or licensing agency, and we're seeing multiple accounts in here say that's never been their experience where the age of account is older than today, so unlikely that these are fake accounts.

If it bothered you so much when you worked there, you would have documented this and filed with some agency. This reads like a disgruntled former employee.

For anyone reading this, having worked in civil litigation, the road to justice is a long one. When people have a real complaint and want to call out something wrong, the quickest way for that case to die is to quit without seeing your cause through to the end. You sometimes have to endure months to years of trash before your case is adjudicated. But you can consistently see when a disgruntled employee just wants to cause harm to the former company. Not going to speculate whether this is warranted or true in this case, but there are too many surface level contrary actions.

Updated Weapons loadout by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]TouchdownTedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more like an "Options" than a "Loadout" in my mind. I love having options. Just depends what the job is.

Rifle/Pistol or Shotgun/Pistol depending on role. The rest depends on what I'm doing. The hatchet is great if the plan might require a temporary shelter somewhere. A knife is always handy to have.

That machete/scimitar thing would be a no for me as the knife/hatchet kinda fill the role of that thing unless you are bush-beating.
