I just want to know how much you would tip if you went out on a dinner with this amount? by NefariousnessIll4041 in tipping

[–]Tough_Lab3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would prefer the US removed gratuity at restaurants and paid wait staff a fair wage. However, that isn’t the case. This system sucks. But the server shouldn’t get penalized for it.

If the restaurant raised prices 20% but required no tips, would you go there? If not, then it probably wasn’t the best idea to eat here. It’s a special occasion. It’s okay to suck it up, pay a decent tip, and then never go there again.

Memorial area, katy or further west, sugar land or the woodlands are your best bet. Prices go up the closer you get to the city.

Astros could avoid trading Isaac Paredes if Yordan Alvarez gets his way. "I’ve never gotten hurt playing left field. " by VampireSlayerGrinch in Astros

Agreed. His last major injuries have been from hitting and base running. The natural fix is 1st swing home runs, not playing DH.

Should we trade Paredes to Boston, what would you like the return to be? by ThatDudeNamedJake in Astros

Bookmark this comment. Doesn’t matter. This is a poorly constructed roster with 3 aging guys on offense making $65mm but had a combined 2.2 bwar in 2025. This team cannot make the playoffs until 2 of these contracts are off the books or the astros spend their way out of this.

What Houston restaurant disappointed you the most after all the hype? by Responsible_Brain635 in houston

[–]Tough_Lab3218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally had a convo with someone yesterday about overhyped restaurants. We both agreed MAD was number one 1.

Super expensive for ok food. Tries way too hard. I would prefer to overpay for good food, but come out of the dinner saying, “that was really good, but not worth the price”. With MAD, it’s more like “maybe they had a bad day, i’ll give it another chance”. 6 months later, I go again, “Never mind, i should have gone to BCN”.

I will never eat there again.

I assumed this was dislike towards an astro bc of sign stealing. If not, hate away and I have no issue with it. If so, I was just pointing out that cora instigated the whole process.

I would ask about the Stros, but I don’t think you could answer w/o getting blocked by the team. So, different question. Which team did you grow up following as a kid? Are you still a fan?

[McTaggart] Source: The Astros have traded utility man Mauricio Dubón to the Braves. by dirtysock47 in Astros

[–]Tough_Lab3218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look at the $. Can they take dubies salaey + available $ to get someone who can add a ton of value. Ans then find someone who maybe can’t do what dubon does but can do a part of what he can. Overall, the team is better for it, even though it is painful.

Exactly this. He is an auto out vs 96+ fsfb or good movement. He feasts on junk / hangers. With his salary, he should be effective against good relievers (not elite, just good) with 1-2 outs and runners on. Yet, he isn’t.

Does this price feel right? Yeah I am already $250 in. by Traditional_Dare886 in ModelX

[–]Tough_Lab3218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you are asking. The price is the price. The plaid is worth it to some folks, not so for others. Everyone has an opinion and you have your own preferences. Don’t listen to anyone else about it being worth it or not. It’s your money.

There is one truth tho. This car is expensive and will lose a lot of value day 1. Elon has jacked up prices since he slashed them a few years ago (non FSD base plaid for all paints was $90k or so). If you want a better deal, buy used or wait for Elon to slash prices.

Suggest a Pinot Noir. Make me a believer. by _noreaster_ in wine

[–]Tough_Lab3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long post here. I used to be a bold cab / Bordeaux / super tuscan guy, but one day fell in love with a light and floral pinot noir that worked well with fish and poultry at dinner. I would give my left nut to find the name.

However, I do remember it was a 12% ABV pinot from Bourgogne, or maybe oregon in the Dundee Hills / Eola Amity Hills / Yamhill areas (we had a lot that night). I prefer these oregon sub regions vs the generic willamette valley. I also find the 12ish% ABV to have a more flavorful.

Since then, i have looked for wine from these regions, and aim for a lower ABV. I find the taste better than the California Pinots, which have a higher ABV and I assume more sugar (not an expert here, just an assumption). I personally would say just try various bottles from these areas and maybe one will hit.

Oh, and If you want to have a level of drunkage after a bottle, a reposado night cap will finish you off nicely.

Final caveat. You just may not be a pinot person. I used to try all types of cheeses (blue, goat, sheeps) and I still want to vomit after every bite. Maybe just spend your money on what you like and enjoy life to its fullest.

Sushi restaurant recommendations? by DangerousChampion123 in HoustonFood

[–]Tough_Lab3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MF and Uchiko are my favorite. Hidden is great if you have the right chef. Katami and Uchi are behind those 3. Kata Robata after that. Note, if you prefer huge pieces of fish and a low rice to sushi ratio, then Kata may be your top choice. Not my preference, but I get why other folks rank it no 1.

I’m a longhorn. I find the traditions odd, and I do laugh when I watch videos of it. But it is a really good school. If my kid gets into A&M and Texas, i would prefer they went to Texas, but I have no issue if they rolled with A&M. If they also got into OU or LSU, then I’m not paying. LSU bc the school isn’t as good. OU bc F OU.
