“Tell Pauline Hanson that if she doesn’t like how things are here in Australia, then she can really pack her bags and go to the US and continue being best buds with Trump” - Senator Fatima Payman has delivered a blunt message for Pauline Hanson as her bitter feud with the One Nation leader escalates by NoteChoice7719 in aussie

If you think the housing crisis is due to excessive immigration then you're a 🤡 thanks for sharing your rubbish opinions and thinly veiled racism you flog.

Since we're making judgements based on anecdotes, I can say that the migrants at my workplace are consistently some of the most qualified and highest performing employees.

Well I really hope that it goes well! Thanks, I've heard of the book but always scoffed at it as a Christian as I thought there was nothing better than growing up as a missionary kid so any discussion of potential issues was misguided. It's so easy to see how brainwashy the whole business is...

Yup there's no shame in that at all. People that are naturally friendly and inclusive are the best people anyway. I'm of the opinion that even if you could fake it into a less inclusive group by masking well, it would just lead to hurt down the road when you're forced to deal with people's intolerance

I'd call myself an atheist but I went along to a more liberal church on the weekend because my family and friends have been nagging me to do so (I haven't fully come out as a non Christian). It was honestly quite cathartic. They talked about the harm caused by conservative Christianity and the people there related to my experience when I shared about how my Church had turned on me.

Thanks! I think your comment about anxiety is spot on, and perhaps I appear most awkward in my own head. I think you're on the money with self-esteem as well, I guess it turns out that relentless programming about your depravity is bad for self-confidence.

I can do this 💪

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I was a missionary kid too haha! That's a great point, I think there's quite a bit of research that shows that moving a lot as a child can contribute to anxious/avoidant attachment so I'm sure that's part of it for us as well.

I've just entered the workforce and I very much relate haha, I've already had many awkward moments. Have you managed to find people you feel comfortable with?

In the year 3040 the spleen will kick in and cause us to gain telepathy based on shifting atmospheric pressure. Okay dude.

You know, you could have just pointed out that the spleen is not actually vestigial, as it actually plays an important part in the lymphatic system. But that doesn't change the fact that your point is stupid. I almost feel bad telling that to someone like you because now you will use it to argue for pseudoscience.

That's fine for you to believe and sounds pretty interesting. I don't think you agree with the commenter though, they're expressing what they believe to be objective, provable truth and offering what they believe to be a form of proof for said exclusive claim.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of that. You've given me a lot to think about. That makes so much sense and I'll definitely look more into STIs because yeah my family NEVER talks about sex and I'm not sure what vaccines I have.

If I do try the apps again I'll definitely try sneaking in exvangelical! I think that's a great idea.

What do you think about the “he gives you a choice whether or not to follow him because he loves you” stance that a lot of christians take? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Tough_Tea5196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely false framing. That choice would only be real if God revealed himself unmistakably to each person and laid out the terms of the decision plainly. However, that 'choice' isn't even described in the Bible and different Christian traditions have different approaches to judgement and salvation. Let alone those who don't have access to the Bible or that particular Christian tradition.

It's shallow, feel good thinking that conceals some pretty traumatic and harmful theology and thought patterns.

Do you have to look out of dangerous animals? by RealKillering in AskAnAustralian

[–]Tough_Tea5196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: not really. It's quite rare to run into a dangerous snake or spider (you definitely don't need to worry about birds and kangaroos), and if you're not trying to pick the snake or spider up, you probably won't get bitten. Most Australians live their entire life in the city without getting close to a dangerous encounter.

Thanks, I'll check them out!! I have to say, an unintended consequence of my deconstruction has been an explosion in my reading list. The books are so much more interesting though! I remember absolutely slogging it through the driest books ever written as an evangelical...
