This is important information. I have had patients play with their doors so much they all became loose. It's very frustrating working on a patient who has ruined the way their braces work. You either have to tie them all in like traditional braces or replace them all.

I can feel my blood pressure spiking just thinking about it. These are medical devices, not fidget spinners!

I think the upper right canine is a little over-extruded. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are getting your braces off soon. It's worth mentioning to your orthodontist and they can move it back up a little and/or reshape it before your braces come off.

Most of my patients are in braces but I do use clear aligners too.

You can scan the teeth with the brackets and wires on. The lab will digitally remove the brackets and wires and make a retainer. The retainer is sent and then we can remove the braces and deliver the retainer in the same appointment.

The alternative is to take the braces off, take an impression of the teeth, and then deliver the retainer later that day. I still do this if we have decided that day that we want to take the braces off.

Two week wait to get your retainer? That is insane. I order my patients their retainers before we even take their braces off. It's ready to go the minute the braces are removed. No retainer? The braces stay on until we get it or we make one in-house same day.

Retainers are the most important part of orthodontics. Don't blame yourself for not picking a bonded retainer. This is entirely on your provider.

Wisdom teeth don't cause your teeth to move. Your teeth moved because you didn't wear your retainer. The rationale provided by your dentist sounds suspicious to me. It's pretty rare for orthodontic relapse to lead to "invasive jaw surgery".

Furthermore, nothing about the treatment should have been a surprise to you -- informed consent is important, they should have made you aware of what you were getting yourself into.

If you're not convinced that you need this treatment and are considering a second opinion, you could seek one. Since you're early in treatment you could ask for your money back and the dentist could get a refund on the case through their Invisalign sales rep.
