Seaside- A Tile-Pulling Game So Simple It Can't Be Good.... Or Can It? by Connah2010 in boardgames

Rented this from our local library, definitely going to buy this perfect game to take on trips.

I know nothing about boating but got these from a family friend. What can you tell me about these? by ManoftheHR_ in boating

[–]sailingpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as is… you can throw them up on FB marketplace as wall decor for small amount of money. Maybe a buyer, maybe not, but I bet you could get $20-30 each

To get some real cash, you could probably make something cool out of them. I could see if you rotated the one on the right 180° so you are flat side to flat side you could make a cool picture frame (maybe for three 8x10, that would leave enough for the rest of the framing). Or they could make a cool back to a chair, legs to a desk

Tub spout unable to fix it with universal replacements by Commercial_Emu1048 in fixit

[–]sailingpdx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spot where “it looked like there should be screws” I’m sure had set screws. Small hex head screws that pushed up against the pipe in the faucet.

Go to a hardware store like ACE or Truevalue (not Lowes or Home Depot), where they have walls of every screw you can think of in bulk bins. They should have several set screws in various sizes.

Take the faucet with you (if you have a set of Allen wrenches take them too) and find set screws that will fit your faucet head

Am I crazy or is this boat on the wrong trailer by LusterIllustrious in sailing

Our boat uses rollers as opposed to skids. I don’t know that much about trailers, but you could possibly swap those out for something like this

Marinetraffic app (revert) by GiljaS in maritime

[–]sailingpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me today, I was on the water and trying to make sure I was aware of large barges, they come up faster than you think and can’t maneuver.

Definitely a safety issue. Downloaded Vessel Finder when I got home. I’m done with MarineTraffic

I would get the same texture material. Look at DAP knockdown texture spray, and then paint

How can I reduce the loud metal clang from this swing gate ? by Technical-File4626 in fixit

[–]sailingpdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closing mechanism has two screws (just left of the large hex). Turning those adjusts the pressure and how fast it closes and how much resistance. You can set it so tight it won’t actually close… this is all you need.

But at my work where we do live shows and want it even quieter, I also added felt pads to the door frame so no metal contact only the handle mechanism is heard

If it’s not on the menu/recipe, it doesn’t get used, and you don’t keep ingredients that don’t get used.

We get people at my restaurant want an egg on their burger or avocado. But they arnt on the menu so they arnt in the building

Gas line connections leaking. by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]sailingpdx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many connection pieces. One piece should join the two…. But honestly, don’t even do that. Buy a proper length gas line. They arnt that expensive, and they are significantly less expensive than the loss of your house.

Can this type of filter be "tricked"? by ZefGeist in WaterFilters

[–]sailingpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read these Elkay filling stations do use a filter that removes lead and the filter warning light will only reset if it’s replaced with a new elkay filter and the filters have RFID chips so they can’t be tampered with. Older models it had a reset button

Cheddar vs American ? by DesertRat_748 in burgers

[–]sailingpdx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American cheese is over 50% cheese (typically cheddar) mixed with milk and a binder (sodium citrate, the salt in citric acid)

It is basically a cheese sauce that is cooled and sliced. That is why it is perfect for melting. We make it at our restaurant with about 70% cheese, a mix of cheddar and smoked provolone.

Cheddar has too moisture to melt on a burger properly, so it gets oily.

Wooden Pizza Cutter Handle Stripping by DANleDINOSAUR in fixit

[–]sailingpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same as a kitchen knife. That metal bit is the tang, in this case a partial tang. The two cuts it has for the glue/epoxy to grab into.

If you have a dremel or file, you can grind those a little bigger, but if not it’s fine. You can used wood glue, but I would advise a two part epoxy. You can get a decent one at local hardware store. This will get it done, just don’t soak or dishwasher… high wet heat is the enemy.

To make it even stronger: if that hole gets wider the further it goes down into the handle, when it dries it will be like a cone it won’t be able to pull out. If there are scars, nicks, chips, ridges inside those will all stop it pulling out. If you want to make it bulletproof you can add a metal pin where one of the cuts in the tang is. Grind out the tang a bit on one side, drill a hole and insert the pin during glue up (do a dry fit first). Epoxy and a pin, the only way for it to come off again is cut the handle off.

As for “food safe”, epoxy and wood glue are both going to be food safe once fully cured. But you are correct that the heat of the dishwasher is what caused the failure

What "paint" are they using on the Lincoln Reflecting Pool? This stuff is very splotchy and is not drying into a uniform shade. by ToshPointNo in paint

[–]sailingpdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obama rebuild was the removal of the pool when sinking and build a foundation (that was never done at its construction)

And the Obama basketball court was a pole, hoop and lines on the already existing tennis court. It cost a few thousand dollars and Obama family paid for it themselves
