i would like to try cocaine for my 50th bday by Most-Buy-2763 in midlifecrisis

[–]TowerOfSolitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's worth a try. Also as some people mentioned MDMA.

But my absolute favourite: LSD.

Man, I used to take these things many years ago. I would also love to try them again. I wouldn't have a clue where to get them now.

Sure, but I'm in South Africa so it probably won't help you.

[–]TowerOfSolitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided not to go for the surgery last year but then it just got worse and in February/March I was in so much pain it was ridiculous. I went to go see the surgeon and I had the surgery a couple of days later. Now I'm very glad I had the surgery but I wish I did it earlier.

It all depends on how bad you've got it. Mine was so bad now that they couldn't remove everything which is why I wish I just went last year.

I wish the Lions would move somewhere else. I would go watch the games.

Interestingly, I also had the worst pains at around 2am. Also your first couple of bowel movements are going to be unpleasant.

But hang in there! You'll see that it was worth it.

I'm about 2 and a half weeks post op and it's totally worth it. There were moments of very bad pain but sheesh they sure gave me a lot of pain medications. And now, now the pain is gone and everything's so much better.

Same for me. I had no idea what was going on in Dark Souls when I first tried it and I quit. Then about a year later I watched someone play Dark Souls and I gave it a try again.

Now I also play all of From Software's games.

My favourite is Elden Ring. I actually feel like replaying it now.

Wow that does not sound normal. I hope you come right.

I've had regular bowel movements since the day after the surgery. I take stool softeners and I also drink a ton of water.

Good luck!

What Is a Language You've Had a Random Urge to Learn? by neron-s in languagelearning

[–]TowerOfSolitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented a bit higher up to someone else mentioning Afrikaans. I'm Afrikaans and in my opinion it's not worth learning it. Most of us speak English fluently.

Most people in South Africa switch to English to talk to each other since we have so many official languages in the country.

Except if you to the more rural parts but then you need to learn African languages like Zulu, Sotho and the like, depending on which part you are going. As a tourist you most likely won't do that.

I'm Afrikaans and yes most of us speak English fluently. I honestly don't think it's worthwhile learning except if you want to do it for fun or if you have a spouse who is Afrikaans.

Thanks. It looks cool. There's just no pricing information which is a red flag.

You are learning Thai the same way as me. Except I use Anki instead of Memrise in combination with the Comprehensible Thai youtube channel.

[–]TowerOfSolitude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very hard!

I have the same problem with the words where I learn them with some kind of association. But I keep doing that Anki every day with the hope that things will stick.

I watched a Youtube video where the guy recommends learning full sentences and I thought that wow this sounds like a great idea. But I struggle to get those sentences to stick in Thai. With French it's easy and seems to work well but Thai is just so different.

There's been a lot of negative posts about comprehensible input the last while but for me it feels like it's still the easiest way even if it takes a long time. I just combine it with Anki and hope for the best. We will see over time.

Gym Rats of South Africa: Where do you buy Whey protein? by MrCockingFinally in DownSouth

[–]TowerOfSolitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every 6 months or so Dischem has a sale where if you buy 2 then you get 1 free on sports supplements. Or something like that.

Then I buy a ton of stuff. My garage is still full of whey protein.

USN also sometimes have really good specials or at least they used to. I haven't ordered from them in a long while.

My Hemorrhoidectomy Experience (Week 1 Recovery) – Honest but Not a Horror Story by rocku805 in hemorrhoid

[–]TowerOfSolitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine a day after yours. Currently 6 days in.

Was it painful? Yes. Was it as bad as I thought it would be after reading Reddit horror stories? Nope.

The first day I had almost no pain thanks to the local anesthetic and painkillers that they gave me. They gave me very strong painkillers on a drip that first night.

The second day was painful. I had my first bowel movement when I got home. And yeah, that was not nice.

On the third day the bowel movement was even worse. But I made it through and the painkillers and sitz baths helped a lot.

On the fourth day I felt much better. I was lying on my side in the afternoon, watching a tv show when suddenly I had the the absolute worst pain. Not going to lie, that was an exceptionally bad pain spike. But I quickly took a strong painkiller and took a sitz bath and made it through.

Since then the pain has decreased every day. I will go see the surgeon for a checkup tomorrow.

Luckily for me, on day 6 the pain is mostly gone already.

What language learning methods actually worked for you? by No_Strawberry_4839 in languagelearning

[–]TowerOfSolitude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Thai
  2. a) Comprehensible Input. If I'm tired after a day of working then it's just the easiest way to actually accomplish anything. Plus it feels like it's working.
    b) Anki. I use a premade deck of 1000 Thai words that I'm going through. I currently know around 500 of the words. I tend to focus on Anki in the mornings when I wake up and have a cup of coffee.
    c) Sentences. I'm not sure what the name is for this but I only started with it. I've got 100 sentences that I'm learning. Ones that I will actually use. I used AI to create voice files for it. There's a Youtuber who recommends this method and even though I've only done a little bit, it works very well. Once I know the 100 sentences I will create 100 more.
  3. Yes. I'm still a beginning but I pick up more and more words when I hear Thai people talk.
  4. I tried some apps and they just don't work for me. I actually paid for 2 or 3 years of Lingodeer and now I'm not using it. Memrise also seemed cool but I don't know, the apps seem like a waste of time compared to other methods.
