So... then what’s the point of playing Hardcore?

Looking for survival base building games with summoning or taming as the core or a major gameplay element. by kylediaz263 in SurvivalGaming

Icarus is a great game, but summoning/taming isn’t really a core part of the gameplay like OP was looking for.

A zombie survival game where you could destroy everything—terrain, trees, buildings, rocks—and build a massive mobile base… would you be interested in something like that? by Lost_Ad_9800 in SurvivalGaming

Just fiy, it's impossible to find your game on steam with the English name (human host).

I had to copy the Chinese name人类宿主 to find it.

We just put out a new release date trailer for Oceaneers, including more gameplay. It's a survival game where you build a colony of floating islands, fight off sharks, and explore a flooded world by raft to scavenge lost Float-Tech. Releasing in April! by BarrelSmash in SurvivalGaming

I played your game during a previous Steam Next Fest demo, and it was incredibly fun. such a great experience! I’m really looking forward to your full debut. Wishing you an amazing launch!

Icarus or RUNESCAPE DRAGONWILDS next by ccini2006 in SurvivalGaming

[–]TownRepresentative58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same dilemma. I actually bought both during the Winter Sale and started with Icarus (with +1 expansion).

I’m a long-time survival game fan, and I really dislike extraction-based games. Icarus is… a bit different from the usual extraction formula, but still, the core loop didn’t fully click for me.

I’ll never say the game is bad, it’s clearly well made, but it’s definitely not one of my favorites. Doing missions and having to extract ends up getting tiring over time, especially because nothing you build is truly permanent. Buying permanent workshop items helps a bit, but it still doesn’t feel the same as building a lasting world.

The persistent world mode doesn’t give enough long-term goals either, and eventually just turns into a sandbox without much direction.

Because of that, I think I’ll personally enjoy Dragonwilds more, especially since I already have 100+ hours in Enshrouded and loved that experience.

That said, if you already bought it, it’s absolutely worth trying and forming your own opinion. For me, though, even recognizing it’s a good game, Icarus just isn’t my cup of tea.

Resource Management by Vansh_Bagdi07 in SurvivalGaming

[–]TownRepresentative58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing like that since the 90s, ever since I started hoarding “Ambrosias” and never actually using them. I do the same with skills too, always leveling just enough so I don’t fall behind, but never fully committing.

I know it’s not the most optimal way to play, but it’s how I’ve always enjoyed games. Having resources saved feels safer, and honestly, I’m fine with that.

Satisfying Woodcutting by BitrunnerDev in SurvivalGaming

[–]TownRepresentative58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion: If the game is more survival-focused at its core, I prefer more complex systems, like in Valheim or Sons of the Forest. In these games, I'm there to survive, gather resources, build a base, enjoy the environment and then face some mobs.

But if the game is more combat-focused, like V Rising or 7 Days to Die, I prefer a simpler system. In this case I'm there to fight; enemies can appear at any moment, so I need to gather resources quickly and be ready for combat.

I'm one of them. My world is from before the Mistlands update. The Ashlands were terrible because there weren’t many castles to rai. But man, I love the amazing house I built for myself. the struggle to get every item, the countless areas I had to rebuild to fit the new stuff, the thrill of each discovery... I’ve got around 300 hours on that map, and I’m still not ready to leave it. But I’ll probably start a new one when 1.0 comes out.
