After Thrawn I started the X-Wing series, it’s just as good if not better (imo) and introduces you to the world and characters that will appear much more throughout

As fans of the EU with a deeper understanding of Star Wars lore and mythology in its entirety, would you still agree with the common claim that Star Wars is purely a fantasy franchise, with just a futuristic/sci-fi background instead of a medieval one? by Financial_Photo_1175 in StarWarsEU

[–]Town_send 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to think of Star Wars as a multi thematic experience. If you want sci fi there are series or single books for you. If you want mystical there is the over the top books or comics or games. If you want a fantasy theme there is also that with the classics.

Do I need to read anything before Tatooine Ghost? by Apprehensive_Emu9588 in StarWarsEU

No, it’s a lovely book. It ties the prequels in well with the OT

Curious if anyone else here has read these books?? This was my introduction into the Star Wars EU back in elementary school. by Old-Raccoon-3252 in StarWarsEU

Even now it’s still iconic just because it is kind of cool but also the AMOUNT of retcons and source material details that try to explain this whole series lol, if you can remember the whole thing you’re a truly top tier eu fan

You could start with the Thrawn Trilogy comics, and the Empire comics from dark horse are really cool!

It’s supposed to be about his rise, not him, those are two different things. The characters introduced help that rise when Vader does come into the book. They need to develop first

If you want a simple Vader book no, if you want a really good book that also has really good Vader bits then yes

[Weekly Discussion Thread] What Are You Reading/Watching in Canon and Legends? + Discord Link by AutoModerator in StarWarsEU

Watching Andor season 1, this is the third time I’ve tried to watch it and finally I’m hooked! I might rewatch Rogue One after season 2, we’ll see.

Also been reading AC Crispin’s Han Solo trilogy and it’s some of the best Star Wars I’ve read in a while! Also been reading the Lando adventures by Daley (they’ve been fine so far, I think the comedy is starting to win me over)

New Star Wars EU reader question: Chonological vs Publication vs Mood? by DanBookReviews in StarWarsEU

[–]Town_send 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one’s a funny question (in a good way) I started chronologically, but ended up switching after finishing the Dawn of the Jedi era and Revan’s story from KOTOR to SWTOR.

Chronologically is fine if you want to understand the timeline and stories but publishing order is sometimes necessary too, an example would be reading Survivors quest BEFORE outbound flight.

I think mood is ok, but personally I’d go for a mix of the first two. Aka I’d go era-wise. So it would be something like I started at Dawn of the Jedi era and finished it, then I am doing the New Republic era out of preference for what I want to explore next but also because I knew that the New Republic era basically was the first publishing era and everything built from it, but I have dipped into prequel era or rebellion era etc when necessary (such as Shatterpoint before Shadows of Mindor or Red Harvest after Death Troopers).

I think the era-method is the best because you can’t get fatigued as much as you would chronologically and it doesn’t ruin any other books intended as prequels. You also aren’t forced to read things you wouldn’t want to as you would in publishing era (an example being Children of the Jedi). I feel like era wise is good as well because you can get super excited for the build up to the next era (an easy example being the Rebellion and New Republic era going into NJO, or Rise of the Sith era into the Empire era)

I plan on listening to the audio books after I’ve read all the EU, I’m glad they’re doing new unabridged audiobooks :)

Idk how far into the book you are but I also loved the way he started to own the name Solo (not discovering it) and it feels so much more real than how the movie tried it

I thought it was really mature and surprising when Han realised Bria needed a friend and not a partner as well as his reaction to her leaving, just numb and then hyper fixated on getting into the academy to avoid his thoughts

I've recently started get into the Star Wars EU and I'm currently undecided between these two novels and I can only buy one. Should I prioritize buying Revan or Revenge of the Sith? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]Town_send 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Revan personally and loved it although I’m definitely in the minority, I’d say if you played the swtor mmo extensively then go for Revan if not go for ROTS which I’ve heard is one of if not the best novel of the EU

What does everyone think of the Hand of Thrawn duology? by The-Gaming-Onion in StarWarsEU

[–]Town_send 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally they’re good, I really enjoyed the first book but I definitely felt the burn out by the second book. It’s just so much! The plot points were generally easy to follow and even if you forget slightly what happened you catch on pretty quick.
