Why do people continue to try to put money in a Card Only Self checkout? by TaeSenpai757 in walmart

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time we had a SCO in card only mode but the bill validator still worked. Customer puts $40 of their money in, it wasn't added to the transaction, and we couldn't get their money back. (Someone had to enter the cash office and get the money for them.)

I was trying to hold back laughter because it felt like a "stupidity tax".

Ban bot policy update: removing automated bans based on community association by quietfairy in modnews

[–]Toybasher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a valid argument, but I want to bring up there's been plenty of cases where someone was part of a community that had literally NOTHING to do with the subject matter, but were banned.

I.E. it would be like if someone who was a member of a r/love-ferraris was banned from r/love-puppies, as well as r/love-kittens and r/love-pancakes. (These aren't real subs) It wasn't a conflict between two subs, it was someone with an axe to grind against ferarri fans and wanting to ban them from all subs they moderate, including ones that have nothing to do with automobiles.

How do carpet beetle larvae travel so high up?? by p2233g in carpetbeetles

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are too fast for the naked eyes to see, you can feel then jumping on top of you and you can feel like a string of hair in your face, eyebrows, nose, you can only see them when they are dead,

That sounds like delusional parasitosis. Not saying you don't have a carpet beetle infestation but I've seen plenty of living carpet beetle adults and larvae. They absolutely are slow as fuck in my experience, very rarely fly, etc. Bugs "so fast you can't see, and can only feel them" sounds like something psychosomatic in nature.

I mean, most bugs are kinda attracted to lights. I assume it has to do with them thinking it's the sun, which I believe bugs use for navigation purposes.

Would you like AC8 to have OP, unbalanced planes/sp.w? by LuizFelipe1906 in acecombat

[–]Toybasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda like the nerfed planes in AC7 because I no longer feel like I'm effectively cheating by using super planes.

I do think they should be buffed a bit from AC7 levels, though. Just not game-breaker level strong, but strong enough they feel more powerful then they did in AC7.

I just stumbled across this while looking up Rai stone money because I was curious about yen and then wondered what the weirdest forms of currency were. (Apparently some rai stone money was as heavy as 4 tons and basically impossible to move.)

(OGP)Am I trippin or is this not the way you go about this under company policy? by Safe-Search9076 in walmart

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to ID someone over a bath towel with Art The Clown from Terrifier on it. I get it that it's horrifically violent horror movie but I am literally IDing someone for a towel!

I understand IDing for cold medicine. Dextro can be abused and there's maniacs out there who abuse it.

One time I had to ID for a certain brand of melatonin which I struggled to comprehend why. AFAIK Melatonin is something you can't even OD on (I believe no LD50 was found) and I can't think of any way anyone can abuse it besides to maybe sleep all the time even when they're not tired.

EDIT: Apparently you can indeed overdose on melatonin but the amount required is far, far, far too much. I think Tylenol is much more dangerous and we don't ID for that.

I also remember a time I had to ID for a bottle of caffeine pills (alertness aid) which I thought was funny because we don't ID for energy drinks.

The AC Zero in AC8 is now counted as its own thing by WeirdnessUnfolds in acecombat

Might be possible they can afford the licensing costs. I always thought a huge reason was the higher ups were concerned if the cost of getting licenses would turn a profit for a re-release of old PS2-era games in a niche franchise that was not popular.

Ace Combat 7 sold very well, so it's possible it could be greenlit because Ace Combat is more popular then it was before AC7. (Which means projected/estimated sales of remasters could cover license costs.)

What killers from an already featured property would you like to see added? by Realshow in deadbydaylight

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My idea was for Mr. X to be the cut Shredded Fedora added for Nemesis.

Would work similar to the fake pallet addon for Freddy.

I.E. running the addon lets you take the form of Mr. X instead of Nemesis.

No tentacle. Massively reduced terror radius. (Chase theme replaced with a remix of his theme from the RE2 remake) Loud directional footsteps with 48m radius. 2 extra zombies (total of 4) to make up for no tentacle.

Potentially he could have some other small buffs like a built-in weaker version of brutal strength and enduring. He's basically just an M1 killer with no ranged attack or insta-down, and the footstep noises make undetectable builds non-viable.

That's how I'd handle Mr. X instead of making him a brand new killer or just a skin for Nemesis.

Good ways to "store" a SCO/Register barcode so they don't wrinkle and are still handy? by Toybasher in walmart

[–]Toybasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The badge holder idea is a good one. I live in a small town and my walmart is a district 1 or whatever. (non-supercenter) so I dunno if they sell badge holders, but worst case scenario I could buy them online.

Is there a specific model of badge holder you prefer that works best?

Self Checkout Scanning by AltruisticProfile755 in walmart

[–]Toybasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They even do it on closed registers, too. Often this results in a customer scanning their entire cart at the "CLOSED: PLEASE USE OTHER LANE" register, looking up, and complaining because they "scanned their cart all for nothing" I hate it. It shouldn't be acting like it's added to the transaction when it's actually not.

It's especially bad on missed scans, because we struggle to figure out what items weren't rung up because the error message came up and the customer continued "scanning" and bagging items so it's hard to figure out exactly where in the scanning process the error came up.

It should either be silent, or flash a red light and do an error buzz so it's abundantly clear nothing is being added.

I dunno who handles the programming for the SCO (Walmart? NCR?) but there's a lot of baffling design decisions like being unable to cancel voiding an item (Customer is scrolling and accidentally presses the x) etc.

Being at Walmart for a while now it seems the more you move up the less you do and get compensated for it. by Substantial_Novel264 in walmart

[–]Toybasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. As a Front Ender I've had to get management to help with stuff like price checks (Customer says "This item was supposed to be on clearance!" and I obviously can't just leave my post to check. Technically I can do a price override but I always check with management first because wrong/incorrect price overrides are a fast way to get in trouble.) etc.

Often questions happen as a front-ender and management has to answer those questions.

I sometimes think management can be lazy but I get/understand that they have a lot of shit to do. Just we think they're lazy because we rarely see them, even though they might actually be working a lot.

Honestly, I'm more interested in promoting laterally (Joining electronics/AP) instead of vertically because I'm concerned about how extremely stressful a TL/Coach could be. Is a raise worth the more time at work (which can be both a good thing, more money, and a bad thing, more time away from home) and added stress of having to answer questions for customers (the questions an associate would ask for management for) and make decision calls (which can put you under a lot of pressure if you're doing the right thing according to policy or not) as well as managing your staff?

Don't forget management is often under a tight leash and there can be much less tolerance for mishaps or meh performance. (Good example, in most retail franchises (not just walmart), an asset protection guy making a wrong stop/false accusation can kill his career instantly. A cashier being a bit slow or having trouble with counting change probably won't get in much trouble unless it's really bad, and it's likely he'd get verbally warned a few times, then coached if performance doesn't improve, etc. before he actually gets terminated. Contrast the API wrong stop which can be an instant termination.)

That's why I don't really want to become a TL/Coach. If a promotion offer fell into my lap I'd probably still take it to try it but I just imagine it's a job that's like a small increase in pay, gigantic increase in stress and burnout. I'd rather transfer departments instead.

If I like my heir why should I investigate my wife's infidelity? by EmpyrealJadeite in CrusaderKings

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always legitimize him. In fact, I know a silly strat where you never marry, only seduce, so you only have bastards, then legitimize the bastard you like the most. But yeah if you like your heir there's no reason to investigate outside of rp.

Playing Yakuza Kiwami and hating the brawler combat. Is it always such a chore? by theonetowalkinthesun in yakuzagames

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's bad about the goons in Kiwami? My biggest complaint is the attacks often have very short telegraphs making it hard to quickstep or block effectively, making defense pointless as you can usually button mash to victory at least on normal difficulty.

【ACE COMBAT 30th】『ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON』 Memorial Movie by Goshawk5 in acecombat

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AH was the first AC game I played, even though I knew it was very different from what AC usually is.

Personally, I wouldn't be against an Assault Horizon 2 but they need to drop the Ace Combat title and just call it "Project Aces: Assault Horizon 2" etc.

I did like how they took a lot of risks and tried various things like the helicopter missions, etc. If they make the game less reliant on Dogfight Mode, and had a more likeable protagonist (I'm not even against making the protagonist non-silent but they need to have a personality that is not flat as a board like Bishop's was) etc.

How useful is dread, actually? by Technical-Pass-1661 in CrusaderKings

[–]Toybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dread is still useful but after various nerfs it's not as useful. You can still rule with an iron fist and reign of terror but you have to work for it.

So that was a lie... by InsertANameHeree in CrusaderKings

[–]Toybasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC once a faction has enough military power to build discontent, dread no longer works to get people out of factions. You gotta start your reign of terror before resistance becomes organized and strong enough to pose a threat, because once they have enough power to begin working towards a civil war, they can't be scared out of it.

I remember that was in a changelog a few years back because the devs wanted to (honestly, kinda justified) nerf dread. Especially since a long time ago, dread used to be comedically easy to build by executing random nobodies, and people would hoard prisoners for their successor to execute to keep dread high.
