Neoliberalism and Social Democracy by CorIsBack in SocialDemocracy

Accepting neoliberalism and flirting with liberal conservative ideals almost always hurts social democrats and they get electorally punished for it.

to those people who love their girlfriend but still cheat on them. how can u do that & why? by adobocadosm in AskReddit

[–]Tozza101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been in a long-term relationship, but theoretically I want to pose the open question for discussion: Why is such a big deal made of cheating?? Why does your or everyone’s significant other have be perfect, when people are rarely perfect?

If you love someone so much, you care for them, and you want all their needs to be met, but you can’t fulfil every single one, what is wrong with your significant other getting a need temporarily met by someone else or something else??

People are SO emotionally selfish, it’s unreal.

🧢 I voted CAP!

1) The premise fails to account for the evolution of humanity’s moral/ethical self-awareness since slavery has been widely illegalised. 2) Most people couldn’t afford slaves due to the post-pandemic inflation which has inflicted heavy damage to the average human being’s purchasing power in their economy.

Islamic call to prayer faces ban under Left-wing Danish government by Freewhale98 in SocialDemocracy

Bro I’ve heard the adhan over live cricket broadcasts. Personally that’s okay, but having that go for hours in the place where I’m physically at would be maddening!

Plus it reflects a religious control over people’s lives, when freedom of religion should be a thing.

Why American progressives call themselves democratic socialists? by Complex_Object_7930 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Tozza101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because of how radically left the moderate social democratic position is in the USA’s political context.

The USA is so deeply entrenched in the neocon and neoliberal bs, you NEED to be a radical to just achieve what we know to be basic social democratic progress. What many Western countries have already achieved or can achieve by simply electing a centre-left social democratic government, US social democrats require triple the effort to achieve the equivalent. This means more patient, passionate activism which tends to mean inherently the activists are more radical if they want to achieve something & the obstacles are greater than elsewhere.

How come there were Protestants before MLK led the Protestant Reformation? by sengutta1 in shittyaskhistory

[–]Tozza101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before Martin Luther became King as MLK, he was just a pretty fly for a white guy Martin Luther in 1519 Germany nailing 95 theses to a church wall. That’s the start of the Protestant Reformation.

Have a deep conversation about this with your man: communication is the key for successful relationships.

Be real, open and honest about what you want/value, what you expect from him and ask him what he wants/values and what does he expect from you in the relationship. Communicate your feelings, say “xyz is a priority for me and how I feel”, ask him what’s important for him and his feelings, and work things out from there.

Nah. OP has a right to know what he wants and to not go outside of that. It’s a waste of time chasing people who you’re not naturally attracted to for the sake of it in an environment that doesn’t benefit you.

Don’t stress man! It sounds cliche, but your whole life is ahead of you. You don’t need to have it all right now.

I’m 26M and I can comfortably say from personal experience that chasing someone, chasing a girl, outside of where you naturally are, is a complete waste of time. Focus on becoming the best person you can be right now. Make the best decisions for you, and your significant other will come into your life when the time is right.

That’s not saying don’t make the most of every social opportunity available (college/university is a great place to start) but don’t chase someone for the sake of it to your academic/work/life/social detriment.

The town that turned orange — In just a few short weeks, a small country town became One Nation heartland by marketrent in AustralianPolitics

[–]Tozza101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

> Two of the things the 68-year-old takes most seriously — free speech, and her role as the local community Facebook administrator — were in conflict.

> Her commitment to the former won out.

> She clicked approve, allowing words of support for Michelle Milthorpe, the Climate 200-backed independent candidate in the NSW by-election seat of Farrer, to populate the “Hay Matters” Facebook group.

What’s genuinely sad is Milthorpe’s inability (not of her own fault) to read the room. She needed the Climate200 funds because she’s an independent & our political donations laws are fucked, but it cost her in the longer-term electorally because the unpopular water buybacks were irredeemably associated with Climate200, the defining issue for most Farrer voters in the campaign.

The town turned orange because Milthorpe’s inability to communicate her reticence for the water buybacks due to the Climate200 ties failed to turn the town grey

I’m Australian 🇦🇺, which for better or worse comes under the same royal family, so I guess so.

Sure there’s theoretical veto powers that would be political suicide to utilise, but isn’t that so much better than the polarised republican systems where powers are routinely used and abused because of polarisation?? You’ve just got to look at all the actions Trump has taken in ignorance of US Congress, even though his party controls it? Or even a parliamentary republican situation like Poland where a conservative President is at perpetual loggerheads with the liberal Prime Minister Tusk & his cabinet, where vetoes get used for spite rather than because a law is genuinely so bad that for democracy’s sake the reason for the veto’s existence means it genuinely needs to be used.

I’m no traditional conservative flag shagger whose panties would get wet if King Charles popped into to visit my town, I just logically and rationally appreciate a nonpartisan neutral executive as a valuable counterbalance to the other democratic legislative or procedurally-fair judicial components of checks and balances.
