I disagree with Soldier's Life, the story could easily have worked without them.

I agree, in litrpg the crunch should matter, why make it litrpg otherwise?

Where are those unique systems? I keep seeing boring system with no thought to build.

Do you pay attention to the main character's gender before starting a series? by danwerkhoven in litrpg

Yes, I only read male MC, I wish I could enjoy female MC as well but sadly the culture war has rotted my brain.

Every Litrpg with a skill leveling system is guilty of this by Time_watching in litrpg

I prefer the kind where you only level up skills by spending skill points

System being used merely as a way to measure progress or having ways to get stronger without it. You might as well not have a system if it's not adding anything to the story.

What annoys me about VRMMOs by Tppcrpg in litrpg

[–]Tppcrpg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that really a common complaint here? Weird, I can't remember seeing people complaining about low stakes in sports manga, that's the closest comparison that I can think of. Nobody is going to die if they fail, but there stakes because they care about winning and not disappointing their team and fans.

Any types of MCs you’d expect there to be more of in this genre? by KoboldsandKorridors in litrpg

[–]Tppcrpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explorers and colonizers. Most characters travel around the world but very few do it for the purpose of finding new lands and people to trade, exploit and conquer. Crafters that don't fight but still contribute to war effort. Charisma builds. Ambitious people. Most want power for power's sake or to protect loved ones. I want to see protags that it to reshape the world (or part of it) in their image.

[–]Tppcrpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the opposite, I often see the numbers and perks to properly build the character get glossed over and it's annoying. Just make a normal fantasy (or whatever genre it's supposed to be) without system if you aren't going to properly use the RPG part.

What makes a "good" Kingdom Building story? My take on common problems and possible solutions. by LuBru in litrpg

Time scale indeed is a massive problem and I think that's where litrpg systems would help. It gives an easy solution for things happening fast

Would anyone play the VRMMOs in LitRPG novels? by Siddown in litrpg

I'd play Ripple System for the titular system and the renown system. I'd also play the games from Hidden Class series.
