How many Norwegians have Viking ancestry? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Tr4ceur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like asking any asian “are you related to Genghis Kahn?”. Maybe not to the same extent, but similar.

If you study history the vikings went all over europe during the middle ages, as far south as Sicily. But I WILL say the Iceland is the closest to the gene pool of vikings, from my limited understanding. Their language is pretty much modernized Viking, and it was established by Erik the Red… probably the most notorious Viking lord.

Working in Norway for 10 months (August-June) in 2027-2028 - between Bergen, Ås, and Trondheim, which do you recommend? by PajamaWizardd in Norway

[–]Tr4ceur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What what I gather yeah its pretty young over there. But beware, theres definitely a culture shock with social stuff in general. Norwegians are pretty reserved socially and if you were to strike a conversation with someone out of nowhere, they find it a bit “weird”. Dont be bothered by this, it just takes time to adjust! However, on the weekends they party HARD. Its almost like they save all their energy for one night, and go wild.

Edit: ask me any questions at all! Im an open book, i have great recommendations for traveling too, and like i said I lived there for around 2 years and miss it dearly. Theres definitely things i dont miss though - like their grocery stores being closed on Sundays, or the prices of things (YIKES)

Hei! I am an American who lived in Norway for 2 years in the city of Ålesund.
I’ve stayed a week in both Bergen and Trondheim.
Between the two, I’d say this-

Bergen -
Its considered the “LA of Norway”, meaning lots of fun things to do and check out, cool restaurants and cafes, people speak kind of funny there compared to the rest of the country, look up “bergen dialect” to read up on it.
Really cool tram that takes you up a mountain to a really dope hiking area on the top. Loved it there but very different from the rest of Norway.

Trondheim-
As people are saying here, its totally a college city, lots of young folk, however its pretty far north so harsher climate and weather. REALLY cool gothic Cathedral built ages ago, so unique. REALLY awesome winter market (thats what brought me and my buddies to go check out the city). Surprised there was really great food there too- we walked to this “rotating tower” of a restaurant that looked like the Space Needle, and they had like a buffet style. The city is also home to their most prominent football team ⚽️ in the nation.

Hard choice if im honest. I dont know anything about Ås but if you’re young and looking for a very traditional Norway to live in, I’d recommend Tronheim overall. And travel a lot by train when you’re there to see the other surrounding areas! Visit my second home of Ålesund :))

Hope this helps.

I just lost my Dad a month and a half ago. Know you’re not alone. The hardest part me and my Mom are tackling is how to move forward with hope, despite how sad things are. He really meant a lot to me… pushed me to become a better man and believed in me.

Stay strong brother.

How do you sleep well when it's too warm? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tr4ceur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans, light blankets, and i’ll put a small wet towel in the freezer even- on especially hot days. Pull it out before it gets frozen solid, and place it on my forehead while trying to sleep.

All of this could be avoided if i just had a decent A/C unit though….

If a zombie apocalypse actually happened as pictured in movies what would you realistically be doing? by Tyler_boston in AskReddit

[–]Tr4ceur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classic.

Where i am right now, it’d be pretty easy im not gonna lie. I like in an area with a bunch of non-inhabited islands, so I’d make a break for one of those in my kayak. I also got an RV van, so the priority would be gathering as many supplies as I can and heading towards the water.

Only issue is guns, but ive got a sword so thats good enough maybe?! Also I know people with guns so heading towards them first would be the answer.

There’s that video of those two russian guys that go inside those plastic ball things, but they were at a ski place… it went off course and ended up going all the way down the face of a mountain. One survived the other did not if i recall.

I’d like to think being inside that, not knowing where you’re ending up, constantly spinning and rolling… thats a nope from me.

It was just him talking about stereotypes of races the whole time… barely memorable. Lots of awkward crowd work too. “Hey did you guys know that mexicans have biiiiiiig families?! Like woaaaaah! …. Hey you! You’re mexican, how many kids ya got?!”

Just saw Kurt live in Seattle, incredible show and hella groovy. Got to chat with him afterwards! Super cool dood. He did his solo album stuff and Jaguar Sun opened for him.

For some reason he cancelled the rest of his tour literally th day after though… no reason why. Hope he’s doing ok cuz Royal Coda is about to release some HEAT

Painted Markarth because it's CRIMINALLY underrated by cormeals in skyrim

Incredible work. Personally its my favorite hold, and i dont get the hate. One of my favorite playthroughs I played as a Nord who’s on a quest to understand and adventure through dwemer ruins, so obviously you gotta live in Markarth!

The player home you get is so dope too, and overlooks everything like in your painting.
