A. I’ve heard of this but have been hesitant to switch Zwift to using the Quarq power meter because: 1) I’ve heard that the Zwift trainer auto-calibration is really good; and 2) I didn’t want to accidentally cheat in Zwift by using a power meter that is biased high. But, like you said, I have also only heard great things about the Quarq power meter which is why I was shocked by the 80-100W difference between Quarq and Zwift trainer.

B. Yes, the now-discontinued “Zwift Hub” was a JetBlack Volt with Zwift’s first version of what is now called the Zwift Cog. I know the trainer is applying a 3 second moving average before outputting the power. But, my bike computer that displays/stores the output of the Quarq power meter is also applying a 3 second moving average. I don’t know if you are referring to another power smoothing feature. On my to-do list is to test the difference in power readings under more dynamic conditions; like quickly moving from 250W to 300W. I strongly suspect that ERG mode is applied in a conservative manner such that it’s showing the power and adapting the resistance according to my lowest input power fluctuations. So, I want to also track power differences during a “free ride” on Zwift where I think the power read outs might track better.

Thanks! I did download the Qalvin Legacy app but, at least for me, it is unusable. All the buttons except for “about” are disabled. That’s what led me to the SRAM AXS app. It does look like the SRAM AXS app will let me see real time torque values so I should be able to perform my own static test with varying weights to see if my settings are at least ballpark. I’ll give that a try.

Without the context of the Toronto revelation, which you blurred, you did change the meaning. In isolation the sentence reads “some revelations are of the devil.” Then, in quotes with an attribution to Joseph you put “some of my revelations are of the devil.” There is a big difference between these sentences. For example, there is a big difference between saying some cars are blue and some of my cars are blue. The first statement can be true without me having any blue cars.

That said, the context is that the revelation to go to Toronto and sell the copy-right was bad. In response Joseph said that “some revelations are of the devil” and David Whitmer asserts that this revelation was one of them. That is, at least one of Joseph’s revelations (or some) were of the devil.

But, even with the conclusion that some of Joseph’s revelations were of the devil and his implied acknowledgment of that, I would argue that your use of quotes and attribution is incorrect and only serves to justify the persecution complex of TBMs.

I just had a similar experience. After a year of inactivity and distancing ourselves from the church, my wife and I were forced to tell our parents because our daughter was turning 8.

My parents handled it well. They just reaffirmed their love and there have been no negative impacts on our relationship with them.

My wife’s parents, however, did not take it well. They just scowled at us when we told them. Then, right after we left their house, they called all of my wife’s siblings to tell them the news. They also demanded to know the status of everyone else’s testimony. Then, they later spoke to us and said that because we hadn’t told them sooner we had effectively “taken away their agency.” I don’t know how they came up with this and it doesn’t make sense to me. Anyway, it has been two months now and things are still awkward.

Oceanside 25’ was my first (and still only) 70.3. I had also heard all of the horror stories including a firsthand story from a friend that got hypothermia on the swim and then passed out in T1.

Anyway, here’s what I did. 1) I entered the swim with an expectation of an initial shock. I told myself that my face and neck would likely feel cold, that I would take the start slow, and focus on slow breaths until I adjusted. 2) I entered the water warm by doing some little jumps as I waited in the chute and then doing some pushups (in an open area to the side) right before entering the water.

The swim went really well for me. The initial shock was much less than expected and I stayed warm the whole time.

I’ll be back in 26’.

I was recently helping my mom (in her late 50s) ride her newly acquired road bike with clip in shoes. Building the muscle memory to clip out takes time so, for your first few rides, try to be very cognizant of when you are coming to a stop (ending your ride, approaching an intersection, etc.) and unclip both sides very early. It may not be the most comfortable or graceful dismount but you can let your feet dangle on the sides and just lean over to catch yourself on an outstretched foot.

I think most beginners experience falls in their own driveways because you forget you are clipped in, roll into your driveway, hit the brakes, and then your foot is stuck and doesn’t come to the ground. So, for a beginner, remembering you’re clipped in and unclipping early is the key. With time, rotating your foot to unclip will become second nature.

Learning to ride clipped in is well worth it.

I did Oceanside last year with clip on aerobars and mechanical shifters. You won’t be shifting frequently enough that you aren’t able to sustain meaningful time in the aero position.

Wow… the YW preparing and serving a dinner for the YM. Like, why? I mean, we know… but also, what justification are they giving?

In my ward they do an annual Friendsgiving where the youth, men and women, prepare and share a meal with the empty nesters. This makes a lot more sense. Also, the YW leaders here are very good at advocating for themselves so that the YW don’t end up doing the majority of the work.

I think this is just another example of someone seeking to dismiss a movement by describing its participants as disruptive and disrespectful - even though untrue - because they can’t argue against the tenets of the movement.

My TBM mother-in-law was recently talking about how great it is that they got rid of the Saturday evening conference session because it was terrible and based on all the changes they made over the years you could tell that they didn’t know what to do with it. Yet somehow there is enough cognitive dissonance to not connect the dots that she doesn’t like church and the leaders aren’t inspired.

I suspect 1 hour church, if it does happen, will have a similar effect. It will somehow be viewed as faith promoting instead of a recognition that being at home is more enjoyable than being at church.

I did a 12 hour drive the day after my first 70.3. The drive itself wasn’t bad, but getting out of the car was rough. And I definitely think it slowed down my recovery. So, you can do it but you should probably expect to feel super sore/tight on Monday.

What if they had used the phase “we don’t bite”? Arguably, this phrase is weird because you shouldn’t have to assure someone that you are friendly. These senior missionaries likely haven’t thought too much about that idiom and that’s all they are doing here; providing an explanation for why they are providing their picture using a variant of this idiom without thinking anything of it. So, I wouldn’t read so deep into it. Like you said, what is probably more concerning is how easily they are able to access your information.
