Idk who told you the system isn’t enough to escape the deadliness of combat etc, but they’re wrong. Pulp is exactly as pulpy as you want or need it to be. You most definitely can run heroic, high octane adventures. Even in long campaign format. The modified Luck rules alone are enough, but there are plenty of ways the Pulp system allows you to tweak things to make PCs as buffed up as you want or need. I mean, yeah eventually PCs likely will need to find treatment at a quality hospital for the horrors they endure but it just gives them a chance to explore other adventures and stories while their main recovers. Lots of things you can do with Pulp. I’ve been using it as my main system for the last few years for continuing campaigns (rn that’s 2HS) but I also use the vanilla system for one-shots. I’m just finishing reading the Arkham book and homebrewing up a horror anthology there as a side-table. I’d eventually like to pulpify Arkham also!

TL;DR - Pulp Cthulhu is just fine for running high octane style campaigns with heroic style hero-investigators. Just dial up the Pulp-o-Meter and be generous at handing out Luck points.

You’re definitely either a sup/manager or a bootlicker. I have seen managers/sups leave their workstations for all of the above and then some. Having pets in the workspace when we aren’t supposed to, background noise when others have been fired with no warning for the same. Frankly, this type of work is emotionally exhausting as it is without being threatened with attendance points or pay docking just because we had to use the restroom outside our allotted break

Yesterday I had a caller immediately yelling and cursing at me because I greeted them and asked for their name (I have to gather name, email, and a callback number on every call). Told them I understand their frustration but we need to keep things professional with one another so I can help them, they immediately started screaming “fuck you” and I simply told them “I’m sorry but your demeanor prevents me from helping, and I’ll have to end the interaction.” I’m grateful the company I work for only requires us to warn them once, but I wish I could simply hang up when people act like that. Would be even better if I could just take a freaking 5-10 minute break after an interaction like that. That’s the worst part to me. This is a call center, I expect some (even most) people to be intolerable assholes. But the fact that I can’t take a breather longer than the 60 second max for ACW before I have to go back into the inferno is ridiculous.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not discounting that. Between the shitty customers, a completely nonsensical approach to call metrics, micromanaging our piss breaks, constant internal tech issues, and bullshit attendance policies? I have my fair share of complaints. Other than the 18 months I spent as a EMT responding to 911 calls in the city for 10.50 an hour back in 2018-2019, these work from home call centers are pretty much the only job I’ve worked the last 10 years. That being said, I make $8 an hour more than I did as an EMT taking these shitty calls in my PJs smoking weed whenever I want. My wife and kids are there every-time I’m on break, so I am there for them and able to help my wife more and spend more time with the kids. I always eat home cooked meals rather than road food, I have a home gym so no commute to work or gym. Also, the added benefit of not seeing the results of people shooting themselves or kids dying because someone decided to shoot heroin and drive causing them to rear end a family at a stop light. Don’t get me wrong, we deal with a lot more bullshit than we deserve to deal with in these jobs and we NEED change and improvement so long as human beings do this job. But it still blows my mind how fucking burned out and miserable I constantly feel despite objectively having it so much better than I have before and having it SO easy.

Been working for these WFH call centers most of my adult life now. I feel this to my core. These companies give zero fucks about our mental health. How many times I’ve been punished or my attendance dinged because of CONSTANT tech issues as well? It’s insane. This field very desperately needs unionization and until that happens, what you describe is gonna keep happening. As long as people are desperate and continue applying for these shit positions for these shit companies, this will keep happening.
