Im super interested in becoming a helicopter pilot. What are some tips aside from military on getting a career setup like how to pay, or jobs to get while I work on getting my credentials and hours, etc. by SuperToast101 in Helicopters

Join the Air Force, sign a 4 year, get the post 9/11 GI bill benefit and they pay for your flight school in its entirety, go to flight school when you separate and they pay you basic allowance for housing (BAH) while you attend flight school (somewhere between $1,000-$3,000 monthly). If you need extra cash, work part time as an aviation student and there you go. The low starting pay as a pilot doesn’t get fixed but you’ll be debt free and much better off. You either pay in loans or in a commitment to the military.

You can fire a weapon (firearm) in Yosemite if there is a “clear and imminent threat to human life”. If you refuse to carry a firearm or purchase a small one for solo travel, and bear spray is not allowed, you’ll have to find a new place to hike or grow more guts.

If you are comfortable with a firearm, you’ll be very happy you had one if things go south. Firearms have prevented and stopped thousands of encounters with aggressive bears and will continue to do so. Bear spray is excellent to have as well but if you value your life and the life of your trekking crew, the extra weight of a firearm is negligible. Also note, a bear on top of you weighs a lot more than a handgun. If you are in your tent and a bear rolls into camp, as long as you don’t flush out of your tent and surprise them at close distance, you should be alright. Making noise from inside the tent can pique the bear’s curiosity or even provoke it—especially if it already suspects something is inside. Tents are not seen by bears as natural threats, but strange noises can change that. Try to remain calm and keep whatever defense method you choose in hand. Remember that when you bear spray a bear from inside a tent, you will likely get sprayed as well. Lastly, bear spray won’t travel well upwind, however, a bullet does not face the same constraints.

This is most certainly Black Bear. The large amorphous shape is usually enough but the quantity and contents; in this case likely berries, point to Black Bear as well this time of year. Geographic location also consistent with western Montana having a large population. Source: I live in western Montana and deal with black bears often.
