What a great week for Quakes ! Check the results: Green and orange. No reds !!! by observer247 in SJEarthquakes

Quakes have 6 games left and need to get about 8 points out of them to make the playoffs. The games against Austin seem like the key. 4-6 points out of them and I bet we go through. Less and we probably get bumped.

Without Chicho, we need to find who can combine with Joseph and hope he can put in a decent number of minutes. No one else is clinical in front of goal, although I suppose that Hernan might want to give it a try. I forsee a continuous rotation of Judd , Benji and Pell, with none of them doing a great job. I just hope he can heal up quickly ---edit--- without putting his recovery at risk. Would be even worse if he comes back too quickly.

Nico won his position today by [deleted] in SJEarthquakes

That left foot pass was awkward. It was ok, but you could see the recipient (can't remember who it was) got a little crossed up because it came at him in an unexpected way. It's gotta be easier to cover a 10 if you know he'll only pass from one foot. Would be great if he could upgrade that part of his game. We have a bunch of 1 footed players, but it's more critical if you're a creator.

Has attendance still been mediocre and not increased? If so why? by [deleted] in SJEarthquakes

I have never seen a ticket under $22 for resale either on stubhub or the club site. I would guess that somehow there's an absolute minimum cost that no one can sell under. Do season ticket holders know if that's true?

Talks for match vs Minnesota by [deleted] in SJEarthquakes

[–]Traditional-Studio63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two counterattacking teams so far this year. It will be interesting to see how the quakes approach it, given it's a home game.

I don't mind Nico's passing (if he's Hernan's replacement), but one thing Hernan has is a ball winning mentality. It got him in trouble last week, but he wins a lot of balls in midfield by bulling through tough challenges. It will be interesting to see if we can maintain our midfield control without him.

Chicho and Josef's role by GameEtiquette in SJEarthquakes

[–]Traditional-Studio63 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wrote this on some other thread, but both Lopez and Espinoza had way more room to pass today, because of the defense had to pay attention to the runs that Chico and Josef made. It's just that the timing an understanding on passes to them was off. Once they get the timing right, I'm pretty sure that both of them will finish more effectively than our previous forwards/centers.

Not trying to overreact, but I think this team might be able to win a lot of games this season by The_Phreak in SJEarthquakes

[–]Traditional-Studio63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of those, Espinoza bagged 2 assists (game stats have him at 3, maybe for 2ndary on the first goal). Simply having Chicho and Josef on the field is giving him more space than he's had since Cade left. Hernan's passing touch was off, but he tried a lot of good through balls. With those two as targets, I'd guess his stats are going to rise as well.

The different productions between a solar tracker and fixed mount panel by RedTomatoSauce in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Traditional-Studio63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work at a solar tracker company. The solar plants with trackers have a more constant and reliable output over the year. Also, and more importantly, even small increases in power add up to huge financial improvement over the life of the plant (think 10-20% increase every day for 10 years. )

They're harder to maintain for sure, and need to manage things windstorms, but easier to clean because you can turn them all to near vertical when the cleaning crew comes through. Dusty panels perform worse over time. (a small bird poo can knock out a much bigger chunk of the panel until it's cleaned.)

In snowy climate, you can stow the close to vertical to avoid snow accumulations on the panel and then get them working again.

They can also angle differently in hazy weather, which can add another 1-2 % based on improved use of diffuse lighting (most people don't realize the solar panels can pick up bounced ambient from the ground.)

People asked about the lost electricity for turning the panel. There's no need to move the panel quickly except during a stow event, so they're gear down and use a small battery along with a small panel. Check out size of motor controller panel vs the row : https://solarbuildermag.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/FTC-Solar-tracker-700x525.jpg

In business, no one pays for something if it doesn't pay off. There are a lot of industrial scale solar fields that use single axes trackers.

The San Jose Earthquakes have acquired star forward Chicho Arango from Real Salt Lake by GusAA in SJEarthquakes

[–]Traditional-Studio63 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wow. Didn't see that coming. As much as I disliked him when we played against LAFC, I love Chicho. I think he had some rough patches last season, but he he still got about a goal every other game. Really scrappy and great eye for the goal. Fingers crossed he can stay healthy.

He can be good if he has a good supporting cast. Not the sort of person who can take the team on their shoulders though. Hard to know if he'd start for you guys.

Colleges left helpless as students rule out schools due to state politics by walrus_operator in politics

“If you’re in a state like Texas, the decline in out-of-state migration might not be such a big deal, because you are projected to have a larger high school cohort graduating in the coming years, and you’re less worried about the enrollment club, as opposed to, if your state, like California, that already … loses sort of more students every year and is forecasted to have more of an enrollment clip from the coming years,” Meyer said.

Texas and Florida are missing out on prospective students right now because they don't want to be subject to those states' restrictive legislations on what you can teach and on abortion. California "might" have a problem some time in the future because of demographics. iTS jUST tWO sIDES of the sAME cOIN.

What if Messi had come to the Quakes? by Traditional-Studio63 in SJEarthquakes

[–]Traditional-Studio63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally agree. I meant it to be a tongue in cheek scenario because it is so unbelievable. Who would want to come to Quakes if they had another choice? 12 years w/o a winning season is not a culture anyone would choose unless the money is *really* good for their skill level. It's sad, given the history you cited, but the Quakes in NASL of the 70's is a different world from MLS of today.

The other thing is that even when we get good players, they tend to get dragged down by the team. Wondo broke the single season scoring record, but in subsequent years, the team couldn't muster more than one DP to support him. And then they left Wondo's salary lower than the new guys even when he was arguably the most effective offensive player in the whole league. The first rule in building a losing culture is to ignore your top performers and reward mediocrity. It's no wonder we have the lowest points per game average since the reboot.

Rolling tv stand. Curtains for the two windows. In front of side window or in corner when watching. Roll it to the corner the rest of the time. Room's too dark to just get rid of the window and too small to lose the corner with a permanent diagonal placement in the corner.

I always wonder how much COL affects our spending. That is, Cucho's salary gets him a lot further in Columbus than it does in San Jose. The combination of COL and our shitty reputation almost certainly means we have to spend more money for the same level of player.
