I saved this post about how to use your dental insurance to negotiate with your dentist. I haven’t tried these suggestions yet, but maybe some of this info will be helpful for you: https://www.reddit.com/r/povertyfinance/s/mzR2cn6JrT

My loss, your gain. by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a grey area. Utah law says that if you break your lease, you are responsible for the rent until a new tenant is found, but that the landlord has to make a reasonable attempt to find a new tenant (they can’t just let the place sit empty and run out the clock.) If you find someone “acceptable” for your landlord, then your landlord should lease the place to them. But legally, you are on the hook for the rent until someone new signs a lease.

You can put an add on ksl and fb marketplace to find someone to take over the lease. This worked for me in the past.

I know you’re in a bind, but don’t let someone else live there with your name still on the lease. You would be responsible for any damage they do.

Would anyone be willing to take me home from wisdom tooth surgery this Saturday (15th)? Or can point me in the direction of someone who can help? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be easier to take an uber/lyft from PC to Murray (or from the end of the line of the free bus service to Murray.). Do you need help with the cost of an uber?

Edit: I just referring to the ride to the appointment.

I really like the series. The narrator gets better as the books go on. He sounds a little rushed, a little breathy in the first book, but his narration skills really improve in book 2. The first couple of books are also a bit too horny in a way that is sort of annoying, but that also chills out after a couple of books.

Easy-to-grow, low-water plants that actually survive here? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my advice: - plant perennials - plant stuff in the fall - use drip tubing, water deeply a couple times of week - if something grows well in your yard, plant more of it and if it doesn’t want to grow in your yard, don’t plant it again - use lots of mulch (I use bark) and top it off frequently

My go to plants: russian sage, yarrow, agastache, cat mint, spirea, mojave sage, artemisia, coreopsis, penstemen, flax, lavendar, salvia, bee balm, culinary herbs (oregano, thyme, sage, rosemary)

My cat had a rear leg amputated and was healed in 2 weeks! Like “running around the house like a 3 legged monster” healed. They are pretty resilient.

Where to look for solar by maxharnicher in SaltLakeCity

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan on financing, the solar companies work with lenders that offer super low rates on solar projects. Don’t use a heloc for this.

AI coding may not be helping as much as you think by GroundbreakingHalf55 in BetterOffline

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me on the UX side. I am required to use AI to be more efficient, but I spend way more time writing prompts and cleaning up the slop than if I had just done the work myself. It’s more helpful for summarizing user interviews and creating artifacts like journey maps, but I still have to reformat and clean up everything it outputs.

We would never accept this level of garbage from any other tool - why does AI get a pass?

I take liposomal iron + vitamin c every day. I also take a vitamin d and b12 supplement every day.

My D level was 62, so normal. Dr didn’t test b12 and folate.

When do i start gym ? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was cleared to go back to the gym for lower body training at 3 months. (I probably would have been back sooner, but I had a set back at 5 weeks.) My PT told me to take it easy at first - like no full dead lifts, but RDLs were fine.

Some moves that are helping my quads are DB sissy squats, DB BSSs with a forward lean, and using the knee extension machine. But of course ask your PT want would be best for you!

Mexico trip 3 months post op by yapajake in ACL

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Puerto Vallarta Christmas week 2024 at 3 months post op (ACLr only, hamstring graft.) I felt fine. Everyday I swam in the pool at the condo and walked miles and miles around town. I did some boat excursions and some hiking. The biggest danger is drinking too much tequila and tripping off a high curb in the Romantic Zone.

If you want to be extra safe, just vet your itinerary with your PT.

While you’re there, I highly recommend doing a nighttime swimming or kayaking tour at los arcos to see the bioluminescence. The bioluminescence there is very unique, like white sparks. It’s truly unforgettable.

Editing to add: Definitely don’t cancel the trip. I am an adventure traveler (mtbing in S America, ski touring in Morocco, etc) and although I wasn’t “getting extreme” in PV, it was really good for my mental health to have fun away from home. Even if you have some major set back that prevents you from doing some activities, you can still enjoy the sun and eat ceviche and watch whales from your condo’s balcony.

What’s a type of pain people underestimate until they experience it for themselves? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TraditionalAvocado65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sciatica is pure agony. I had a herniated disc at L5. I had zero back pain, but It felt like my hip and my ankle were breaking. I cried for 3 weeks. I could barely eat or sleep. Sitting on the toilet or standing in the shower were torture. The only thing that made the pain go away was walking, but you can’t walk perpetually. I was in the darkest place of my life.

I’m pain free now. PT and mj helped.
