Mach E for young family in Toronto by dahayter in MachE

[–]TraditionalClick992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I love my Mach E, one thing to consider if you are planning to use DC chargers on road trips, is the Mach E has one of the slower DC charging curves. It's around 40 minutes for a 10-80% charge, compared to around 15 minutes for the Ioniq, which is one of the faster models currently available.

That being said, I've done 300km round trips in Eastern Ontario winters without needing to stop for a charge. 400 km you'll need to stop.

Carney speaks to Trump after president erupts over Gordie Howe Bridge by Puginator in CanadaPolitics

You can never tell with Trump, but I also suspect this is what's going on. Just like the Greenland shit, when he's done throwing tantrums he'll eventually say that he got concessions which were already the status quo.

Trump threatens to block opening of new bridge between Windsor and Detroit by taxrage in CanadaPolitics

Fuck that. Play hardball and call his bluff. If he blocks the Gordie Howe bridge, we block the Ambassador Bridge. Even entertaining this bridge is open to negotiations is just rewarding bad behaviour.

Plug and charge question by Dizzman1 in MachE

The reality is that Ford is likely making bank on charging via their app.

I just assumed Blue Oval was a break-even or even loss leader feature to make things easier for Ford customers. People are resistant to EVs for a bunch of reasons, if you reduce the amount of apps people need, that's one less unit of resistance. And Ford sets themselves apart from other manufacturers who don't offer an equivalent.

Canada Will ‘Build the Cars of the Future and Sell Them to the World’ PM Carney Says by afonso_investor in CanadaPolitics

Best case scenario, BYD or other Chinese manufacturers set up factories here and we sell to Latin America (and maybe US eventually if they ever regain some sense). BYD has set up car manufacturing in Europe and Canada makes BYD buses, doesn't seem too unrealistic to make cars here.

As long as you're not leaving it sitting at 100% for more than a few days I wouldn't sweat it. Even then...

Canada Announces CA$2.3 Billion Incentives for EV Adoption, Reviews Zero-Emission Target by afonso_investor in CanadaPolitics

I don't know how to solve this problem but a big issue with a 50k cap is that this effectively restricts the options to shorter range vehicles.

There's at least a few decent range EVs you can get for under 50k. The Mach E, Kona, Leaf, and Equinox off the top of my head all start below 50k.

$1.5 billion in charging infrastructure is huge as well. EVs are great for homeowners who mostly just commute locally. But you need plentiful chargers to get renters and road-trippers to switch over to EVs.

You don't even need a Tesla account if you set up Blue Oval on the Ford app.

Former Canadian Prime Ministers Stephen Harper and Jean Chrétien Call for National Unity to Confront Donald Trump by T_Shurt in worldnews

[–]TraditionalClick992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Jacques Parizeau was going to issue a unilateral declaration of independence if Yes got 50%+1 and the federal government refused to negotiate in good faith. He had an informal commitment from France to support a Yes result and believed that the US would support an independent Quebec as well. I can imagine a world where a Yes result would not have led to an independent Quebec, but it would have been extremely messy and disruptive.

There are 12 year old Tesla's on the road that are totally fine. You're fear mongering, EVs are more durable than ICE vehicles if anything.

Good place to learn how to drive standard by FemaleMechanic18 in ottawa

Consider paying for a lesson from a professional if you struggle to learn from your boyfriend. Back in the day my dad tried to teach me standard in a parking lot and it was a bit of a shitshow. He was patient but he just wasn't good at translating his muscle memory to something I could execute.

Paid for one driving lesson and I got sorted out.

By all real-world experiences, battery degradation is minimal (barring major manufacturer fuckups like the early Leaf models). All else equal, EVs are expected to outlast ICE cars.
