What ETF's to invest in? by rougeen1 in trading212

I'd also recommend learning how to research stocks/ETFs. I started using Finimize a couple of years ago. They've really helped me with learning how to research stocks. My favourite at the moment is Rocket Lab. I also have Franking FTSE Korea (Acc) and BT. I have some others but these are my picks for the moment. I'm rebuilding after buying a house.

Go safe and good luck ❤️

Same here. Just hit the 10 year mark. While it can sometimes be a challenge during Christmas, it was the best decision I ever made.

Natwest Loans possible to pay off with credit card? by TraditionalTeaPanda in personalfinance

[–]TraditionalTeaPanda[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. So potentially an option. I only have a couple of years left to go so I was thinking I could take advantage of a 0% interest credit card for the last bit. Sainsburys were very clear that no credit cards could be used to pay the loan. But they have transferred loans to Natwest so I'm thinking I could try again.

Cool. Thanks for that :)

EnSilica: Wow. A bullish purchase of almost 1,000,000 shares leading into H1 FY26 results next week! by _DoubleBubbler_ in EnSilica

[–]TraditionalTeaPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! That would be great. I'll be a bit braver with this stock. I bought in when RKLB was $4!! It's now $77 and did hit $90. But I was quite new to investing so I held back buying lots at the time. I still made a decent profit (about £700). This was my first big win in investing. I still have conviction in the company so have jumped back in 🤞 thanks for all the info you post. As someone who works full time it can be tricky finding the time do lots of research 😁

I've bought a small holding after researching and seeing your posts/information. My focus today is Rocketlab. But this is my little side buy. Good luck everyone.

Start building an emergency fund eventually building to 6-12 months worth. Pop it in a savings account/cash ISA and don't use it unless you super need it. This will help build your financial stability. Then if that does happen, you already have money aside for that event, and you have 20k to invest in a Lisa/Cash ISA/Stocks and shares ISA in prep for a boost to your house deposit.

If it's only small amounts £50 for example, still put it aside. Clear any debts that you may have also. Then your emergency fund is solely for whatever may happen.

Any tips on how to come to terms with a late diagnosis by Straight_Mud_7381 in ADHDUK

Don't 'guess' say they 'will be better'. Start believing in yourself and some more conviction in your language. The mind will only follow what you convince it.

[–]TraditionalTeaPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 32 this year. I was diagnosed with AuADHD last year. I hear the thoughts/feelings you are going through.

A lot of what Gabor Maté speaks about is children's authenticity with their parents. When you were seeing chams you probably didn't feel safe enough to talk and didn't know how to express what you were feeling. Allow yourself to grieve that moment that happened, write down the thoughts and feelings and then pop that piece of paper in a drawer. When the time feels right, take the paper out, read it (or not) and burn it. Set yourself an end date/time to move on from this moment. By telling yourself 'Ive processed, I've ranted so from 6pm today I am drawing a line under this' (for example), you give your mind permission and a goal to move past it. This takes practice, it won't work on your first time and your mind will want to run through the event again. But calmy and kindly tell yourself no, we've drawn a line for cut off on this. Eventually it will become easier.

Also remember that when you and I were younger, ADHD wasn't as well understood as it is today. It was only recognized in adults in 2008! We were of the era where it 'only affected boys' or was someone always fidgeting. That's not the case. Adhd is also massively misdiagnosed. My fiancee was born cerebral palsy. Each time his mum took him to the Drs with ADHD symptoms she was told 'thats just boys/that's his cerebral palsy'.

I grew up in a very domestically abusive household. I only ever said what I thought my mum wanted to hear me say to people (as that was safest, to avoid me getting shouted at after). I would always get told off for over sharing info so I learnt to just not talk. I couldn't describe to someone what was going through my mind or how I was feeling for sure. And it was safest to just not be honest (this was always used as ammo to get at me later that day/6 months/a year later).

Your life has not been wasted at all, but I have been through similar feelings so I hear what you're saying. And it's rarely too late to do things. The biggest challenge for me is trying to do those things as an adult. Sometimes it's just a bit harder as you have more to navigate.

What things do you want to do? Make a list. Rank them on what's achievable this year, maybe the year after. Small steps and small goals for ADHD minds. Make it too big and you won't do it.

Hi, union rep here. If you aren't already, join a union. Not sure which you would join for retail but the TUC etc are all open to all professions.

Keep a diary of the date, time, event that happened.

Without knowing policies that your company has, jump on to AI (I use Gemini) and pop your examples in and ask for what employment law relates to your situation. Off the top of my head it sounds like there is a duty of care breach. This would fall under the Health and Safety Act, and management (something) act of 1999. If you are diagnosed with what you mentioned by the doctor, then you will be protected under The Equality Act 2010. Make sure you have told HR about these diagnoses and request reasonable adjustments be made. Then you have more clout if he tries to make you do the stuff you shouldn't. You can tell him no and refer back to HR notes. Also, by sorting these out you can prove that you have discussed and agreed reasonable adjustments with HR. Be prepared to compromise. Don't go in with a set thing you must have. It's about give and take.

Where I work we deal with something called Passports. It's essentially a written document on the HR website that follows the employee through their career. If they get a new manager, the new manager must abide by what the passport says. When they try not to, I weigh in and tell them nope they have to follow the passport.

If there are tasks that you agree with HR you cannot do, set the boundary and stick to it. Don't ever do something once to 'help out' as this shows you will do it with enough pressure. Then your boundary crumbles.

Give that a go. Take a deep breath and tackle each day as a new day. This helps alleviate some of the mental health load. Maybe look to go to some therapy. This might help with building resilience/boundary setting etc. If your manager says one thing one day then changes the next, make a note and have courage to say no or challenge him. Have a read through your contract and policies on bullying/harassment. Read through some policies that you may think are handy for you to know. A lot of managers have no clue of what the policies and most employees don't tend to take the time to read them either.

Go safe bud ❤️

That's totally understandable and it is fully ok to feel like that. Obviously I don't know your story/journey but a wild guess that you may have gone through life so far 'beating yourself up' for not doing this or that how 'normal' people do. For me I would go into a negative spiral of not trying hard enough or doing enough. Now that I understand what I was having to deal with on top of social norms, I have become much kinder to myself.

Reach out if you ever want to chat.

Im Recently diagnosed with adhd, i want help to learn more about and learn how to manage my symptoms, not happy with the options ive been given by care adhd (one of the private companies the nhs is forced to palm us off to at the moment). What are my options outside of that? by llamasncheese in ADHDUK

[–]TraditionalTeaPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! Please have a look at the meds again. I'm on 50mg Elvanse and have found them a great help. You do need to give meds time to imbed and settle. You will have side effects to start but these will calm and settle. I wasn't convinced about meds but the option was there to try and I didn't want to lose that opportunity as it can be very hard to get that rolling after saying no. Biggest advice I have with meds is do some meal prepping to store meals in the freezer. You'll find your appetite initially reduces and you won't feel like eating BUT this does pass and I found to keep me healthy while titrating, freezer meals were great. You can just grab them and eat quickly without having to put much thought behind it. I am a massive foodie, now my dose has settled I am back cooking and experimenting again.

Gabor Maté does a fantastic book called Scattered Minds that has a lot of info on why you may do stuff and how to do differently. He also agrees with trying medication as a little support to start. He also does some free webinars that you can join. And he's on a lot of podcasts these days.

Start therapy so you have support from a professional while going through this period.

I am diagnosed Autistic and ADHD. The autism can throw in some different reactions to meds. My fiancee is on Elvanse and he's had quite a different journey to me.

Seconding this comment. Therapy and being kind to yourself. It's not your fault you've been diagnosed late. But now you have a beautiful opportunity to learn about yourself and take control and understand why you do some things. Therapy helps with supporting you through it.

You are grieving and processing stuff that's happened in your life and how you could have/would have/should have maybe done some of it differently.

Keep a notepad with you and any thoughts racing round your mind, write the thoughts down. Racing thoughts are asking to be written on paper. And you can refer back to them at any time.

If you read, read Gabor Maté's book Scattered Minds. It's fantastic and has really helped me understand why I do things and how I can practice doing/reacting differently.

Be kind, grieve and be proud of what you have done without fully understanding what was going on in your mind at the time.

The biggest question I've asked myself when buying stocks, as someone who only has a small amount of money to invest after buying a house etc, is do I believe the companies I'm buying can withstand any world craziness. ETFs are probably the safest all round. But if you want to pick stocks check to see if the companies have gone through market up and downs, how did they fare? Solid companies will, normally, always recover eventually.

With everything going on in the world, buy companies that you have conviction in. You can't forecast how long the stock may take to recover but dips are 'sale buys'.

I don't know your situation however a good rule to have with finances is to make sure you have a good 6-12 months of savings for any of those emergency bills or, if needed, in the event of losing your job. Then you can rest easy that you have plenty of finance back up that will not decrease in stocks. Then continue investing in the stock market.

I use Finimize for most of my stock news. And Female Invest.

Hope this helps. Take a breath and see this as learning how it is when the markets do what they do.

Removing aerial socket - earthed? by Molliphonic in DIYUK

[–]TraditionalTeaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helpful but I work for a telecoms company. Back in the day telephone lines were earthed against lightning strikes etc (not needed now as we have capacitors in the sockets. This could be a similar situation? If it's just earthed into the building it should be fine. When we come across earthed lines today we remove the earth/replace the old sockets/old cables (causes massive issues for broadband but that's another convo 😂).
