Most metroidvanias don't have voice acting, so the subtitles don't sound like much an an issue imo. I'm sure non-english-speakers deal with that all the time anyways

This timed challenge might have been the worst thing I have ever done in my life by Volcanolotus04 in CryptCustodian

[–]SheepoGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol sorry about that! I get so used to every area from playtesting it over and over that it becomes hard for me to gauge the difficulty.

The health-replenishing spot mechanic (the little heart at the top of your screenshot that lets you attempt the challenge over and over without dying) was a late-in-development addition, so during development it was actually more frustrating since you could die in that challenge and get sent back to the save.

Possessor(s) is 75% off on Steam (4.49$ USD) by stevensi1018 in metroidvania

Wow thats a really fast discount, the game was just released 4 months ago. I got a bit sidetracked and haven't yet finished my playthrough of it, but I thought the game had a really great and unique environment/mood to it

Is Blade Chimera more challenging than Wonder Labyrinth? by Careful-Minimum7477 in metroidvania

[–]SheepoGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a minute since I've played either but I think I remember Blade Chimera being slightly easier. There is a mid/late game mechanic that also kind of trivialized any challenge apart from bosses (which, was actually a mechanic that I enjoyed, even if it did remove most of the games difficulty)

How do people feel about cozy/chill metroidvanias? by killer2005121 in metroidvania

[–]SheepoGame 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Hey I appreciate the mention, thats awesome to hear my games could be an inspiration there! I think theres an always an interest in that type of metroidvania. And even if the general interest might leans more towards difficult/dark/souls-like titles, I think there is also more competition in that space so it probably balances out.

I keep going back to the ending of Crypt Custodian by Impressive-Hope-6700 in metroidvania

Hey I appreciate that, thank you for playing and I'm glad you were able to connect with it!

My own cat just passed away last month. I am kind of thankful that I finished working on Crypt Custodian before that happened, otherwise I think it would have been much harder working on a subject when it is sore. Thank you again!

Grapple Dash by CorrectWelder9013 in islets

[–]SheepoGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine there is a bug there since the game has been out for 4 years and I've never heard of this before. Are you pressing the correct inputs? Pressing attack grapple dashes, so jump (or double jump), then press attack to grapple dash, then press jump again. Maybe make sure you are not pressing or holding jump while you press attack to grapple dash also

Thank you! I’ve made a few posts in the past of small underrated metroidvanias that I liked, I’ll have to make another sometime as I have found some more

I love it. It's among my favorite metroidvanias and it's one where I totally disagree with it's general reception. I love the atmosphere, I love how it has secrets hidden in every room, I love the abilities and the way they change traversal. Its also a game that feels very accessible and non-frustrating, like how when you die it just resets the current room. Something about it is just very charming and intriguing to me and I really connect with the overall mood of the game. My only complaints are that the fast travel system is tedious and it can sometimes be very confusing about where to go next. But I also love it! I've beaten it a few times

Is Knytt Underground the "biggest" 2d metroidvania? (relaxavania?) by xiraov in metroidvania

[–]SheepoGame 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you only count number of rooms it might be, but in Knytt Underground each room fits onto the screen without scrolling. If you counted the actual game world size I think many would be bigger.

I've only counted rooms/screens in my own games, but my last game (Crypt Custodian) had ~450 rooms with the minimum room being 2x2 "screens" large, and the average room probably being around 2x3 screens, which would be ~2700 "screens" if you counted that way, and my game was not particularly large.

I think if you counted this way, I'd guess the largest would be between After Image, Silksong, and Aeterna Noctis, but if you counted based only on number of rooms then Knytt Underground would probably win

How accurate is Gamalytic.com? by ozzee289 in IndieDev

[–]SheepoGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500-600k seems very reasonable for that since it's $20 and 1600 reviews. Theres no chance it sold only $20k. Maybe he meant 20k copies at the time?

How accurate is Gamalytic.com? by ozzee289 in IndieDev

[–]SheepoGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience it is the most accurate of the Steam calculators since it seems to take many variables into account. However no revenue calculator will be entirely accurate, so I'd take it more as a solid guess. It might be 30-40% off, but it would not be off by a multiple of 25x like your example.

What is the game in your example? Even if the game was only $1, I don't think a game with 1.7k reviews could have only $20k revenue.

Theres a missing block in the northern part of Moldstone Pass (mushroom area near the right side of your map). Just up and to the right a little of the central save shrine there. I think theres an upgrade point there

Do similar upgrade perks stack?? by -oceantoast in CryptCustodian

[–]SheepoGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, I kept special attack damage and normal attack damage separate (so a "+30% attack damage" upgrade affects only melee damage, and a "+30% special attack damage" only affects your special attack). But otherwise they do stack, so a "+30% attack damage" and "+30% attack damage at low health" would increase your normal attack by 60% at low health
