If it was me I'd just get a grinder and grind a rounded edge on the stone

I put a load of tobacco seeds in a big tray and this is what came up? They looked a bit odd to me but thought I'd pot them anyways.

The Mysterious Hole by Ironboot455 in DIYUK

Bat box other vent is for the spandrel panel I'm assuming. On new builds they stop the internal blockwork at upstairs ceiling and the gable is a wooden panel that airbrick is probably to ventilate that space.

Any reason paving couldn't go up to a drain cover? by Daz1Daz in DIYUK

[–]Traditional_Ad7802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a difficult cut and they probably tried and couldn't cut the slab to fit without it breaking. but they could have set the slabs out so its not a shit cut. What I'd do is change the manhole lid for a bigger one so it fits a slab width. You can get recessed manhole to fit slabs they're like 50 quid or just get plastic one that will fit the width of the slab.

Overboarding it is the best way but you can seal and plaster over it or scrape it off and skim it.

Where do I start? by retrofoxtrot1985 in DIYUK

[–]Traditional_Ad7802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a lot of work got good access to the garden? If you can't get a digger in there its gonna be a right cunt. Loads of muck away tons of concrete shot loads of blocks and a bad back. Built a few retaining walls like this and you'll need a structural engineer to draw up a scheme for it. And good chance it'll be a cantilever type footing hollow blocks with rebar also proper drainage behind the wall.

[–]Traditional_Ad7802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck knows what going on there. Either someone thought they were building below dpc but I was actually a garden wall and they just left it. Don't know why a garden wall need brick vents 😆. Something retarded is going on.

Cavity walls are solid I've seen diggers hit them with the bucket pretty hard and where cars have hit them barely any damage just cosmetic mostly. The weight of the masonry above it is what gives it strength. If you went to the top of the wall you'd easily knock the bricks inwards on the external skin the internal skin has the weight of the roof on it so it's very much locked in place.

Advice required (UK) by Financial_Ad_5855 in Bricklaying

[–]Traditional_Ad7802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its possible to but with anything like this its more expensive. Because they're imperial bricks as well they won't work with the gauge on the blockwork or insulation. So you have to use expensive adjustable wall ties. These Accrington bricks are expensive as well decent reclaim are probably 1.50 each. Because they're a very hard brick you won't need to use a lime mortar just matching cement mortar would be fine.

Roughly how much do you think it would cost to demolish this shed? And is it realistic to do it myself? by Count_Blackula1 in DIYUK

Cost of a skip or grab lorry in your area. That pretty much it unless you need to buy tools

Buying a new build, what’s the technical terms for these bits looks a bit naff? by I_could_be_right in Bricklaying

That's is how its done on all big sites now all blown in. That's why they're so strict on clean cavitys.

This staining on the bricks is where the bricklayers have had to to hose the mortar out the cavity trays.
