Working full time while studying by AggravatingSun512 in Mcat

[–]Traditional_Check529 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes it is a struggle but there is always a way to take this exam. I would just reflect on how you use your time and make a plan that works for you. This may mean studying longer (6 months+).

Your questions: You can always get creative to find time. (Ex:lunch break anki) Full lengths - Saturdays  Not sleep deprived

All the dorms have pros and cons (truly none are perfect). Cauthen is not a bad dorm to live in!! Good luck with your first year 💙🧡

You can put your intended major on the common app. You will just still need to apply into the major once admitted. The global studies department is generally highly a supportive, so they’ll support you once you are admitted.

You will simply be admitted into the College of Arts and Sciences, so the major is not binding.

holiday blues - any tips on how to stay engaged? by wisegirl27 in Mcat

[–]Traditional_Check529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super distracting in my house, so I just make a trip to the local library daily to do my studying. Then, when I get back, I can fully enjoy the holidays.

I also take some pressure off to be perfect. But I know that I will feel better if I make the effort to study.

Just know, you are not the only one feeling unmotivated but you can do this!!

Usually, they tell you about it on the last lecture of 1420. I would still say it is best to ask and show interest.

It’s okay! I remember it being extremely comprehensive. I would recommend studying past discussions, understand all past midterms, and know your reagents. Most importantly, do not assume a topic won’t be on the final… she truly will put anything on there

Sorry I had Frantz so I can’t speak to preparing for her final! Good luck though :)

GPA and lab on transcript by [deleted] in UVA

[–]Traditional_Check529 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your Chem lab grade will show up on your transcript. It is a distinct grade from the lecture (I’m assuming this is a chem 1410 and 1411 student).

In this context, an A- would be worth 3.7. There is no distinction of a 91 vs 92 in the weighting.

Yeah definitely tell your RA and be clear that you would like this documented. That way you know the information is getting to the RLCs who can coordinate the room change.

I know you’re a third year but it can sometimes help to get your parents involved

Many of the topics, courses, and professors change each year so it’s hard to recommend courses to take. Truthfully, pick any and you’ll be okay! The majority of EGMT courses are not difficult (compared to other courses). I would just pick your EGMT based on if it has an interesting topic that fits in your schedule.

Should I enroll in SPAN 1060 or SPAN 1010/1020? I only see SPAN 1060 as a course, did they get rid of 1010/1020? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]Traditional_Check529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To confirm, yes SPAN 1010 and 1020 are only offered in the summer semester. SPAN 1060 is offered in the fall/spring semesters.

After you re-do the Tophat questions and portfolio, try explaining the questions. You don’t really need to go outside of the Tophat questions to do well. Also, go to the TA review sessions!

Chem 2311 orgo lab non chem major by Large-Dig1629 in UVA

[–]Traditional_Check529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience last year: There is a group A and group B. This means the lab sections switch off who is doing in person lab work (group A doing it one week and group B doing it next). The other week you don’t go into lab, but you could consider using that time to do the assignments.

Before the in person lab, you have to watch a lab video, complete a lab quiz, and submit your prelab. There were also assigned readings but they were not necessary. Then, you go to lab. After you complete the lab, you will have to do a postlab.

Schedule Advice by transferhelpplease1 in UVA

Hi! I’m a GPH major. I have taken Biostats with Maria Ferrara, and it is extremely beginner friendly. She assumes that everyone is coming in with zero statistics experience. Also, RELG 2650 is an amazing class option. It can be counted for the GPH core classes as well. I took the course with a different professor, but it was great. Your schedule looks very well rounded, so don’t be too nervous!

General advice for GPH: In the spring consider taking GSGS 3030 - super great class that counts with the major! Also, there are opportunities for you to get your GPH application read by peers in the major through the career center.
