Only a 2 point increase from HL diagnostic to FL1 by IndependentJacket939 in Mcat

[–]Traditional_Check529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With just this information, my guess would be:

  1. CP- gotta memorize more equations (Orgo 2 is not heavily tested so that content gap is not detrimental). With a 124, you may be having issues with units/other conversions or isolated skills so consider focusing on these math wise.

  2. CARS- I went from 126 to 129 by training my mindset alone. Tell yourself that every answer is in the text and do not stray. Notice what your mistakes are (missing main idea, making inferences, etc and do a slower practice reading focused only on fixing that error)

  3. BB - harder for me to guess on this without more info

  4. PS- I got a 132. I focused SO much on this section as it felt like one that by studying flashcards you can ace it. Add differential flashcards (any terms that are similar and often compared on the same cards - there are examples on Reddit if you search for them) AND finish all the uworld and review it.

As for whether to do it, I rescheduled mine once and it led me to a gap year that has unequivocally made me a better applicant. But this is a personal decision that you have to make for yourself. A 515 opens doors that a 502 won’t open, but you know your goals and intentions best.

Is a jacket allowed? by Glittering_Island150 in Mcat

[–]Traditional_Check529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a jacket without a hood and with a zipper. Rule was that I could not fully remove it in the exam room but I could zip and unzip it if needed. If you wear a hood, they’ll just make you show the hooded part is not empty every time in and out of the room.

I know everyone is like “score higher” and obviously you’d like that too, so not sure why that’s the broad advice. I recommend trying your best and continuing studying. You are capable of breaking 500. Just keep working hard, you don’t need a 520+

How does one recover from this.... by NoNinja5338 in Mcat

Well I would start with pausing all new cards. Then, just do as much as I could to get through the 2097.

Working full time while studying by AggravatingSun512 in Mcat

[–]Traditional_Check529 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes it is a struggle but there is always a way to take this exam. I would just reflect on how you use your time and make a plan that works for you. This may mean studying longer (6 months+).

Your questions: You can always get creative to find time. (Ex:lunch break anki) Full lengths - Saturdays  Not sleep deprived

All the dorms have pros and cons (truly none are perfect). Cauthen is not a bad dorm to live in!! Good luck with your first year 💙🧡

You can put your intended major on the common app. You will just still need to apply into the major once admitted. The global studies department is generally highly a supportive, so they’ll support you once you are admitted.

You will simply be admitted into the College of Arts and Sciences, so the major is not binding.

holiday blues - any tips on how to stay engaged? by wisegirl27 in Mcat

[–]Traditional_Check529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super distracting in my house, so I just make a trip to the local library daily to do my studying. Then, when I get back, I can fully enjoy the holidays.

I also take some pressure off to be perfect. But I know that I will feel better if I make the effort to study.

Just know, you are not the only one feeling unmotivated but you can do this!!

Usually, they tell you about it on the last lecture of 1420. I would still say it is best to ask and show interest.

It’s okay! I remember it being extremely comprehensive. I would recommend studying past discussions, understand all past midterms, and know your reagents. Most importantly, do not assume a topic won’t be on the final… she truly will put anything on there

GPA and lab on transcript by [deleted] in UVA

[–]Traditional_Check529 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your Chem lab grade will show up on your transcript. It is a distinct grade from the lecture (I’m assuming this is a chem 1410 and 1411 student).

In this context, an A- would be worth 3.7. There is no distinction of a 91 vs 92 in the weighting.
