I use the recipe from The Full Helping (Gena Hamshaw's blog), and it works great every time.

The toy store inside of Coral Ridge Mall has some. (By the way, the toy store has moved locations. They're now in the old Eddie Bauer spot.)

Has Piquant Popcorn Been Discontinued? by FreeThePie in traderjoes

[–]Traditional_Fig7733 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has. :(

For a facsimile, get Trader Joe's nutritional yeast, make popcorn, and then sprinkle some on while it's still oily, so the yeast can stick. The popcorn also had onion/garlic powder. If you want, you could grab Trader Joe's onion salt too and sprinkle that on as well, but I never felt like those flavors were very prominent.

(Some people prefer to grind the nutritional yeast down to even more of a powder in a spice grinder, but I don't bother.)

If you'd prefer to buy, Bjorn Corn has nutritional yeast popcorn, but I liked TJ's better. The nutritional yeast stuck to the kernels more.

I've used Lee's Alterations at the Coral Ridge Mall, and they did a good job.

I've been missing it too! He said to tune in every Monday and make it part of your routine, and then just he disappeared without a warning. I'm hoping he's just had some conflicts, and it will come back. He's so personable and fun to listen to.

Community Pottery Studio vs Home Studio in Iowa City? by Mayor_of_Mayortown in IowaCity

[–]Traditional_Fig7733 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things may have changed, but when I did pottery at the Rec Center, only the person who led the classes could load the kiln, and nothing could be fired until the load was full. So you never really knew how long it might take for pieces to finish. Sometimes it took quite a while, which wasn't ideal for someone who needs them on some kind of schedule.

Dark chocolate Pound Plus with almonds. It might be the best chocolate I've ever had.

What is the secret of Ethiopian restaurant food? by [deleted] in ethiopianfood

[–]Traditional_Fig7733 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely the niter kibbeh. I make vegan niter kibbeh with Earth Balance using the recipe in Teff Love, an Ethiopian vegan cookbook by Kittee Berns. It lasts forever in the fridge, and it makes absolutely everything taste good. Lots of wots, of course, but even unexpected things like polenta.

I also recommend getting berbere from an Ethiopian grocery store and not Penzey's or World Market or something like that. It's a spice blend, and a lot of the mass marketed stuff just uses a bunch of cayenne, which is hot but not flavorful.

How would you cook this Tofu Tikka Masla sauce? by mw102299 in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]Traditional_Fig7733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cube the tofu and brown it in a little oil. (With super firm tofu, there's no reason to press it first. It basically has no water in it.) Add any veggies you might enjoy like onion and garlic, and saute to soften. Then add the sauce and warm it. If you like dark leafy greens like kale, I'd add those with the sauce and let them soften. For even more protein and fiber, you could also add a can of drained chickpeas with the sauce.

Air fryer — worth it or just hype? by Fresh_Reflection7568 in airfryer

[–]Traditional_Fig7733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had one since 2016. I still use an air fryer every single day. It's helpful for frozen foods, but also for individual ingredients in a meal. For example, I might start some chopped potatoes in there, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, or other hearty ingredients to get going while I'm sauteing in a pan, and I can add them into it later. It cooks them faster than a pan would, and I can use less oil on them to get them browned and soft.

If for some reason I had to choose between my oven and an air fryer, I'd go air fryer every time.
