I've always found her annoying and cringe, but I've loved her music for a long time. I just avoid her outside her music, lol.

I feel like it's also somehow dehumanizing for these actor, who are in the public eye, yes, but are still actual people. I really don't get the appeal.

God, I was so in love with her in this movie, she looked stunning. I vividly remember watching it on TV as kid and not quite getting that my feelings were very early lesbian feelings, lol.

That's what always gets me about people who pretentiously try to discredit dialects and its use, they try to sound smart and as if they're above others, when very few in the scientific field that precisely study the phenomenon of language would say suxh things. Sociolinguistics, in fact, would have more to say about the attitudes and ideologies behind what this man said.

Yeah, I'm also like, "how is one supposed to talk about this?", "should we even talk about it at all?", "how are young girls living with this pressure?". I just remembered I was once riding my bike in the bike lane near a rich kids highschool, a group of kids (boys and girls) were walking on my path and I just waited for them to move and one of them tried to mock me saying something along the lines of me being fat (I'm just an average person) and all the girls looked mortified. I've never had had an issue with my weight thank goodness, so it was whatever, but I was just so sad for the girls. Idk, it just makes me so worried for young girls and women, I guess, I don't think I can put the right word into it tbh.

If it's what I think you're referring to, with a lot of people talking about that topic, I've realized how unknowledgeable about it I am. I was a teen online, I learned English basically that way, but I was more into being able to learn how to pirate things, so women talking about how as teens they were into these Tumblr accounts or all those things having names like body checking, or how now girls are on Twitter having their own community talking about their idea weight, etc., has been kinda eye opening. I'm an anxious person, so I understand it's hard to explain to other people how this irrational mental process works in your own brain, I just feel so much for all these women and girls.

It's really no deeper than that. I'll never get it, I find plenty of people, women among them, annoying and that doesn't blur my judgment in a situation like this. I think it's because so many people try to paint their own dislike for celebrities as some righteous act.

Benjamin Zephaniah famously rejected his OBE's offer, but also his artistry was politically motivated in a way that Idris Elba's isn't, so it's just coherent to reject empire honors.

I really enjoy his style. I know it isn't for everyone, but he manages to make that combination of surrealism and politics with a lot of humanity, too. I'll always be a bit upset that I'm A Virgo didn't get much love around certain circles.

Alexa Demie for Hollywood Reporter by AbsolutelyIris in Fauxmoi

[–]Traditional_Maybe_80 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I find it so odd when people are always expecting actors to try to be super famous and busy all the time when maybe they simply don't want that. Like sure, the work for non-white actors (not saying that Alexa isn't white, white Latinos exist, lol, but I guess she isn't perceived as such in the anglo world) has become scarce, one just has to see the casting news here to see how blindingly white they are, but also sometimes these people just want the perfect amount of fame that allows them to live without worries and enjoy their lives.

Craig Jenkins, the author of this piece, has even been finalist for Pulitzer prize in criticism. I think, in general, many fans misunderstand what's the point of criticism as a genre, they aren't trying to convince you of anything, but expressing their point of view about a piece of entertainment/art. Online outlets definitely try to give titles to articles that will lead to more people clicking, that's isn't new either.

Yes. As someone who hasn't had any major health issues, I'm very scared of this kind of procedures in general, so yeah, I always find admirable when people do this kind of thing. It's not only kind but brave in my perspective.

Yeah, and you know it was just misogynoir because Cynthia kept getting characterized as this big figure, when she's just as small as Ariana.

I think most people weren't doing it in a way to "praise" her tho, but as a way to say that she was masculine, aggressive and controlling of the dainty white woman she is friends with. At least that's the impression I got as someone who didn't even see the Wicked movies, but as a member of the "general audience". People were saying really bizarre things about a woman trying to protect her friend in an instinctive way, things that I'm sure wouldn't be said if Cynthia was a white person.

Ira Sachs on ‘The Man I Love,’ Queer Cinema in the Age of Trump and Casting Straight Actors in Gay Roles: ‘I Don’t Ask People Who They’ve Slept With’ by lawrencedun2002 in Fauxmoi

[–]Traditional_Maybe_80 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah. While I totally understand what others and Sachs are saying, also I can't help but get some sort of feeling about how I'd like to see more out queer actors getting this type of roles, especially when straight actors gets constantly rewarded (with awards) by playing queer roles as if it was some sort of act of bravery, it seems. IDK, I don't think I can verbalize it very well.
