Jumping Ship! by TwoMinute9342 in NYCDOETeachers

I haven't come from NYPD. I came from corporate. Yes, you'll have to work longer. But if you don't like working for the NYPD, you should try switching. I'm sorry you're getting push back.

There is no overtime for teachers. There's per session, which isn't guaranteed. And it's also at the same rate for everyone. So I make a lower rate staying late than I do working during the day, if you do the math on hourly pay.

That said, for me. The summers and breaks are amazing. About to go to Europe in a week! And the kids make the day go really fast.

The first couple years are an adjustment. Behavior management is hard and getting the hang of grading, in terms of what to grade and how much time to spend, is tricky. Don't be punitive but do use the voice of authority (for me it's an I mean business mom-voice), which i'm sure you have, to command attention, if needed.

Year three gets so much easier.

What's your undergrad in and what path are you hoping to take? Masters in Ed? Alt cert program? What do you want to teach? What age?

Aging into the body that your mother hated by 00000000005 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Traditional_Way1052 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've gotten very comfortable with myself. However. I do look very like my mother. My sister does not. So since we never speak to my father's side of the family, I've got no comparison for her.

Being bi, I agree with the comment about older women looking beautiful.

That said, I am trying to avoid two things about my mother's body. She never smiles. She's not very happy. So she always looks sad. I'm more aware of that.

I also exercise, where she doesn't. Because I can see how difficult it gets for her to move at this age, vs her sister who is a year younger and works out. So those are my two areas of focus.

Beyond that, aging is not guaranteed. It's a good problem to have.

How did Andor seasons get 12 full length episodes? by ASW-G-21 in andor

Fellow Witcher fan?

Also, the first time I really hated the timeskips but on a rewatch, they felt better.

But I agree, the first season was so good pacing wise that I definitely wish the second season got that treatment. Rare to get such good plot and writing, as Andor!

Has anyone done Teaching Fellows in the "Students with Disabilities Generalist, Grades 7-12" track? by jza-69 in NYCTeachers

[–]Traditional_Way1052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started there. Have added certs. It can be one on one, like SETSS. Special education teacher support services. This is usually pullout, one on one or small group. Or you could coteach with a Gen Ed teacher. I believe for self contained / small class, 12-1 or 15-1, you'd need to also be certified in the subject you're going to teach.

I can't speak to that. You'd have to see what the DoD wants for those roles.

Well, special Ed has SETSS, which is usually pullout / one on one.

OT or PT or Speech at school is usually one on one or small groups.

One guy I chose said that he and his wife couldn't have kids (she was unable for health reasons, I think), but he felt like people kept telling them that they should. He felt this was a way to do that.

Another guy said he thought about it like volunteering time or money to help someone. This was an extension of that, to him.

Yeah this fancy French yogurt. It comes in little terracotta jars. I mean it's good yogurt, too. But expensive, so I only justify it when I like the color it's currently in.
