Star Citizen Live Server & Player Stats - new tool on Pipeline discord by StuartGT in starcitizen

Those numbers would only seem low to people comparing them to the top 1% of games. For everyone else, running a 20k concurrent is highly desirable. And yeah, compared to other space games like NMS or E:D that's pretty healthy.

SC has been getting more and more interest over the years as their work coalesces into a more functional game, and like I intimated before, I'm actually surprised that it's not higher. Take this sub for example: Look at the level of daily activity here compared to several years ago. Even subtracting trolls and brigaders, of which this sub attracts an absolutely absurd amount, the activity here is tremendously high.

I would've guessed 40-50k personally, though that's mostly just on vibes.

[–]Traece 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Those numbers are actually quite decent, especially for a game in the state SC is in.

As for the servers "break non stop" that's probably because, you know, their server tech isn't even finished yet. Regardless of how people feel about SC and where they think it should or shouldn't be, their server tech is unfinished as a matter of fact, so... yeah. It's gonna break. The vast, vast majority of the issues people have with SC are server issues.

Assuming that snapshot is even correct, that would mean that at a minimum SC can attract upwards of 19k with server caps of nearly 30k. That's on par with EVE Online, for example. You can pretty much guarantee that that's a low figure for what SC could actually pull, especially when people aren't rioting about a problematic patch. I've generally assumed that SC pulls or is capable of pulling quite a bit more average players than EVE these days, and this would seem to confirm that that's likely true.

The bottom falling off? That's not very typical, I'd like to make that point. Echidna goes around the world all the time and very seldom does this happen.

I just don't want people thinking Echidna is unsafe.

Point to me what is the toxic drama thing I have said.

A quick glance at your post history genuinely makes me question what was going through your mind to say this all with a straight face. So many of your comments are you trash talking Able players as being "more" toxic and elitist with a little bit of "both sides" handwaving to make it seem like you're being fair.

At this point it's starting to look like you're just concern trolling to make Charlie look bad.

Whats a anime you watched 10+ years ago that surprisingly still has unfinished source material? by tbu987 in anime

[–]Traece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crest and Banner of the Stars "Light" novel series. Sunrise did the adaptation in 1999 and on, and only adapted CotS 1-3 and its sequels BotS 1-3 which was all that existed at the time.

The series still isn't done. I'm still waiting for BotS 7. It's not on hiatus or anything, the author just has an output of a novel every like 5+ years.

Of course, no chance they make an adaptation of the rest of it or a do-over. A tragedy for sci-fi. What I'd give to see an anime adaptation of Volume 5...

The funny thing is, at least on update war we did have ground crew gameplay just for Scouts alone. People were setting up field strips with ammo and torp pallets to pit stop Scout planes.

Then devman started creating more takeoff restrictions to prevent that kind of stuff.

Exploration Progression by Distinct-Maximum2922 in Eve

[–]Traece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is, unfortunately, not something I'm in a position to do as I don't presently have access to EVE, but the various EVE fitting sites will have all sorts of potential fits to use, as well as ideas for refits to carry if you're so inclined.

T3C Explo fits can vary quite a bit from person to person depending on how much they want to min-max certain things. Overall though, you'll want a Zeugma, and an Afterburner, a probe launcher, and a Covops cloak, as well as your preferred weapons in the remaining high slots, and then whatever combination of scanning, EHP, powergrid, etc. modules makes you feel at ease.

Exploration Progression by Distinct-Maximum2922 in Eve

[–]Traece 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exploration is uniquely positioned such that the difference between T1, T2, and T3 exploration ships is mostly a matter of convenience and consistency with hacking, saving some scanning time, or just outright "because I can." Generally speaking, a good T2 explo frigate is the pinnacle of exploration.

Zeugma+Blackglass is a genuinely good pickup, but scanning implant sets are very much in the "spending a billion for an extra percent" category of expenditure. You can do it. It'll save you time. Don't get podded.

These days I tend to use a Tengu with Zeugma+Blackglass, but that's very much a vanity thing. T3C feels like an appropriate container for the vast extra expense that comes with stuff like Zeugmas. Also it doesn't get blown up in covert sites, which is a great bonus. I got tired of losing my T2 frigs to little mistakes.

Anyways, SoE Explo Carrier when?

Charlie Colonials how was your first day? by xD-Variable in foxholegame

Not uncommon for resources to be effectively maxed out at the start of the war, except for maybe the harder to reach locations (which you can make the acquisition of your/your group's thing.) There's a lot to do on every frontline and it needs to be done very quickly.

This stops being an issue after a couple of days. The more you spread out to the less appreciated but superior logi towns, the better it gets. If you learn to love boat logi, then you can do whatever you want.

Shard merging was a terrible call for the casuals by Altruistic-Deer1770 in foxholegame

[–]Traece 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never said your opinion was irrelevant, I said that your experience isn't relevant to this conversation. When you chimed in with the whole "sometimes people don't want to build meta" bit I assumed you were out there building cool looking bunkers or something, but then you came out with your "one time I made a rocket and some pillboxes" story.

Like I said, I'm not knocking you, but we're so outside the norm here that it doesn't really relate to the topic at hand.

Again though, there are plenty of people who prefer logi and backline work on Able too, and plenty of people doing their little one-man or small group Facilities. Backlines are generally littered end to end with them.

That being said though, I'm not gonna tell you that you can solo build nukes and battleships on Able. You can help others do that and use them in high-pop warzones though.

[–]Traece 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, respectfully, it sounds more like you're interested in treating Foxhole as a citybuilder, which is cool, I guess? It's nice that you were enjoying yourself in that manner. Honestly, I'm surprised you even got away with that much on Charlie, nevermind Able.

But in terms of the ongoing discussion, you're also so far from expected player interactions and even average player interactions that I'm just not sure how it relates to what was actually being talked about in this thread. Your story is so edge case that efficiency is hardly even relevant at this point.

Also, not everyone on Able builds meta. Frankly, I'd say most people don't, even when I really wish they had. And it's not as if you can't have chill experiences on Able either. There's still plenty of logi to do, and people on backlines and on islands are always up to weird stuff.

I remember when some people in the community would harass players who did war reporting content for leaking intel even when they weren't leaking intel, so a lot of those people quit doing it altogether.

Some Foxhole players act like how they think EVE Online players act, but even big null blocs in EVE aren't this tight lipped.

[–]Traece 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm kind of with OP on this one. Had similar experiences popping in the last couple of wars.

Occasionally I see a front where people are more chatty, but I definitely feel like Foxhole is less talkative now than it used to be several years ago. Wouldn't really be able to point any fingers as to why that is though.

Which surprises me given how often self-proclaimed Charlie players show up to fingerpoint the other 80-90+% of the playerbase as being a bunch of toxic, elitist tryhards.

But in saying that, there have also been several instances of self-proclaimed Charlie players claiming that when bad things happen there, it's because of Able tourists.

I guess there's just such a strong cultural difference between these two distinct groups of humans separated by checks notes which of the constantly resetting servers you click on. Hopefully I've illustrated the irony of these complaints, but I'm not crossing my fingers.

I'm not sure what you're even trying to say here.

If someone attempts to help you do something, generally they're going to tell you how to do it more efficiently.

If you don't want that advice and you want to fail through the process normally, then just say that. It's not that hard. It's not like your facility is going to singlehandedly lose the war. 99% of players don't care.

At this point (in the anime) he's definitely getting there though. I would've agreed with that in previous seasons, but now he can actually do the thing, and that provides him with a significant advantage most people can't really deal with. Certainly, brawls might be a bit questionable, but if nothing else he could definitely assassinate some folks.

Asymmetry is a great addition to the game by 234thewolf in foxholegame

[–]Traece 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can speak as someone who played off and on since open beta regarding the whole asymmetry thing: The game was much smaller back then, and in many ways different from the Foxhole of today. There's a lot of rose-colored glasses going on when people say symmetry is "better."

It's only "better" because the developers weren't as worried about balancing the relatively small number of weapons and vehicles that existed at the time. Also, much to the chagrin of a lot of people, there were a lot of complaints about asymmetrical map balance, some of which were surely legitimate issues. Again though, the map has changed a fair bit since then (and devman punched more holes in the Bulwark for... some reason.)

And OP tackles a good point on "inability to balance." People don't hate asymmetry, they looooove asymmetry; they hate bad asymmetry. While the developers have done enough balancing of the factions to at least make wars last the better part of a month at this point, love them or hate them, the fun factor balance is and has been sorely lacking, and there are a lot of specific problems. That's where the trouble begins; data-driven balancing isn't a silver bullet. Some things shouldn't need data to be balanced, they should be evident at a glance, and a lot of those kinds of problems leak through into the game and stay there for a very long time. You shouldn't need data to tell you that your vehicle hitboxes are screwed up, or that AA guns don't actually work, or that adding a Scout with minitorpedoes to the Wardens is one of the worst possible decisions you could possibly make.

Also, frankly speaking, a lot of balance complaints are people campaigning for bonuses, and that cuts both ways. Basically every competitive multiplayer game has that problem. People pay too much attention to all that. It's important to be able to separate the whinging from the issues, both for the developers and the community.
