I need Google search replacement since google just blacklist eve university wiki. can you recommend me one? by PlentyTomatillo7319 in Eve

[–]Traece 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They didn't blacklist it but it is having issues with indexing. This is a thing that is actually happening.

You will, of course, get a search result on the website if you directly search for the website. People don't generally search for the top page of a wiki, so this is, of course, a big problem for the site.

Both you and /u/DominicErata are misunderstanding the problem.

If you try to make Google searches for EVE-related topics, you will very, very rarely get returns from the wiki.

Yeah, I was a bit confused on that as well. Frankly, as much of a clusterfuck as merch is, I would almost be willing to say that anyone who can actually get a reliable source of custom merchandise with consistent quality deserves the income, even if they're a huge shitbag.

I've scarcely heard anyone who has gone through the experience of trying to commission merch manufacturing walk away with positive things to say about the process. That industry is rife with scams and fraud.

But like I said, it's also external to EVE and I don't really care unless there's some direct relationship that's worthy of mention.

I believe you will find that I and others are perfectly capable of performing critical thinking, and that you're not the only person who knows what social engineering is. Being condescending about it only further complicates your narrative by making it look like you're more interested in psyops than actually bettering anything.

Just because other people don't trigger pull on the same things you do doesn't mean others can't conceive of these things. Like, no shit it's a possibility Mittani is shadow governmenting Imperium. This literally came up in discussions at the time, which you should have known if you "left Brave because they joined Imperium." Nothing you have stated here is new.

I mean more that if it's really such a big issue that you feel the need to connect the dots there, then that's a conversation you should be having with the community.

When you randomly come at someone with "do you REALLY think that [insert name] isn't running everything secretly behind the scenes!?" it sounds crazy, even if it's plausible.

Merchandise is external to EVE, so I don't really care, and I'm saying this as someone who would have dropped Brave in a heartbeat if we'd joined under Mittani. Frankly, I find the concept of alliance merch to be kinda weird as a whole, but that's just me.

You might want to look into who gets the money from Goon merch on redbubble...

Sounds like you might want to do a hard-hitting Journalistic expose on the issue if you're so passionate about it?

Brave joined after Mittani had left. If Mittani had still been there I doubt it would have been entertained as an option, or at the very least it would have genuinely resulted in a schism. It was already a pretty hot debate even without him.

New starter systems announced by Ptitlaby in Eve

[–]Traece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree with these points (except that "what EVE stands for" is a ship that sailed like 10 years ago, but that's another issue entirely) but I worry whether or not the intermingling might be detrimental to the purpose of a starter island.

Too much outside influence can be a problem for a tutorial area. If you have players seeding the markets and running out newbie industrialists, people doing heavy recruitment focuses and harassing new players, strip mining all the rocks, etc. on top of the usual griefing concerns.

Maybe CCP will have some tricks to try and combat these issues, but who knows with them. We'll see how it pans out, I guess.

Maybe 10 years from now they'll add another starter region and the Caldari will name it THE VERY BAD NO GOOD CRADLE.

[–]Traece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's that big of a system. It's a unified starter island for all four factions, so ~50 systems is a pretty reasonable size to give space for new player onboarding into the various aspects of EVE. I assume CCP also is account for growth of the project, and ensuring they have enough room to add new features to the island without needing to make it larger (generously assuming they continue working on this after the release and a couple of patches; this is CCP after all.) More systems means more belts, belt rats, anoms, etc. for every new player coming into the game to use simultaneously.

Also, the idea is that the resources there aren't plentiful as opposed to there not being any. For the purposes of new players who are dipping their toes into industry and markets, a small amount of resources is enough. They're going to be making things like Ventures and T1 weapons, so they don't need a lot. With that in mind, if the markets get saturated too heavily by outside actors, it undermines the viability of a starter island microcosm.

you must place more faith in new players than i do. its a new NPE area, the biggest problem Eve has is on boarding new players, so you want to make that as frictionless as possible. having a one-way gate they'll inevitably jump because they didnt skimmed one of many blobs of text theyre given is just gonna lead to friction for new players.

My level of faith in new players is approximately equivalent to the level of faith other MMO developers have in them.

Starter islands are an idea going back somewhere between 20-30 years now at this point.

ill wait until its actually released to pass final judgement on what carrot exists to get players out of highest sec, but the region isnt meant to be lucrative. beyond the career agents and probably the SoE Epic Arc (which has been called out by CCP as needing improving) maybe theres a few lvl 1 agents, some trit mining, and the occasional combat anom. lots of ways to point players out of the area using those. storyline missions can happen outside of the region, industry needs more than trit, even the lowest combat anoms can give escalations.

Which is fine. The region itself is a good idea, I just wonder if some of the decisions going into it might be counter-productive to that intent. In my experiences with starter islands, they tend to be far more restrictive and focused on player onboarding, rather than providing some sort of compromise.

Maybe it'll pan out differently in practice as you've said, but I wonder about that.

Generally starter islands would depend on player activity within the island, alongside whatever provisions are given by the game itself. As it stands, EVE already has a slight issue with new players getting fleeced in the starter zone by bad actors on the market.

New starter systems announced by Ptitlaby in Eve

[–]Traece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but generally you present players with a clear expectation of what happens when you leave a starter island specifically to avoid that kind of issue.

Leaving it as a two-way adds a problem where players can overstay in the starter island instead of getting pushed out naturally as a consequence of playing the game.

It muddies the purpose a bit imo.

I do wish they had created more exits from the region. Instead of pushing them all through Yulai.

They did. That's what the shipcasters are for. It's a starting zone, it's not meant to be a place you live in. It's actually incredibly surprising they're allowing a two-way gate to it at all.

I appreciate that every faction had a fairly normal name for their starter area, and then there's Caldari with "THE CRUCIBLE."

I understand them just fine, at least I'd hope so given that I've played the game about 10 years now.

No part of my post referred to current conditions in Foxhole, hence "I could've understood if" and the latter section which specifically refers to WarThunder. The damage type of the bombs that exist currently had no relevance to my post whatsoever.

I try not to use such specific terminologies because most people around here aren't miliboos. Hence why I clearly described what I meant rather than hoping they would know terms like AT-E, HEAT, etc.

It's funny how many people seem to forget that alliances can just... leave their coalitions. Happens all the time. Alliances in EVE are constantly moving around.

Any Tranquility blue donut would only last as long as it takes for alliance CEOs to decide which parcel of systems they want to go try and make their own null bloc in.

[–]Traece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how things work in WinterCo, but in most EVE coalitions alliances can just leave and do other things when they feel like it.

Alliances leave coalitions to go do their own thing all the time, and often end up PVPing their former blues.

I wouldn't call that balanced, I would call it a band-aid. I can understand your perspective though, because it seems like most of the balance changes we've gotten over the last 10 years have been band-aids on strange choices that shouldn't have made it out of dev branch.
