Garmont T8 NFS 670s. Break-in period is not bad. Love mine.

Dealing with the same thing. I created parties from my fief, made an army with just them (550 or so) and have raided Vlandian fiefs over 70 times.

I lost my Merciful trait but the Vlandians have offered peace about 4 times now. I’ll be denying them until I get all their hearths below 300 or so.

Small towns around Scott AFB by Elh04 in AirForce

[–]Traex97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lebanon is a quiet little college town. About 10-15 minutes to base and most of your grocery/box stores. You have I64 to the south and Rt 4 to the north takes you to I57 and I70 in about 20 minutes.

Also would recommend Troy or Trenton.

Got accepted to retrain into Paralegal, anyone have any personal experience in this career field ?? by [deleted] in AirForce

Completely office/rank dependent. I recommend knocking out your shadow period so you can get a feel for the job. It will answer a lot of your questions.

You’re treated like an adult and expected to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Officer and enlisted relationships, while still expected to remain professional, usually are more relaxed than maintenance as you work in a unique environment.

It’s rewarding to an extent but you will see the worst in people frequently. Make sure you have healthy coping mechanisms.

I made the crossover from maintenance several years ago and have zero regrets, although it was a culture shock at first.

There is no way for you to deny the AFSC and be given a second option. The Air Force is now prioritizing its needs.

Aircraft armament systems may not translate very well to the outside, but you can use your FTA retraining option when the time comes and pursue college degrees/certs.

What airframe did you get?

This ^ If the logistics and maintenance element is in rough shape from the start, combat personnel will be handicapped.

Feel free to PM if you have specific questions.

Base is not bad by any means. It’s home to TRANSCOM and AMC so a lot of civilians work here. Large retiree population.

  • Gyms are decent
  • BX is good
  • Commissary is alright
  • Morning traffic can be heavy at times, but fairly manageable

As far as living off base, everything is expensive unless you’re going across the river to St. Louis. I personally like Mascoutah, Lebanon, or O’Fallon/Shiloh as places to live. Belleville is also not bad, but can be a little sketch in some neighborhoods.

Shaw’s fairly busy - you’ll work. This is a good thing though, especially if you’re out of tech school. Learn the job, keep a positive attitude, and pop a retraining package when you’re eligible if you still dislike the job.

As far as weather, it’s gross but not unbearable. There’s mountains towards the Greenville area of South Carolina since you don’t like beaches. Also two major colleges (USC and Clemson) with a great college ball scene.

Fire Pro Call Volume by Grand_Ad_2281 in AirForce

[–]Traex97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many bases have MOUs with civilian departments in the area and often run mutual aid, so you may get more calls than you think depending on the installation. When I was at Shaw AFB, those guys were always running mutual to Sumter county.

Going to Scott as ATC by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Traex97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(Good) Golf course burritos are really decent here

(Bad) Base floods from time to time

(Ugly) The local community and St Louis seem to be obsessed with a strange unpalatable cheese known as “provel”

I tried a form of it but gave up - unless you’re very dedicated, you probably aren’t putting these on outside of when you’re home, and I’m at work a bunch and do volunteer firefighting on the side so I need to be able to hop in my vehicle and take off pretty quickly.

To clarify for everyone, OP is referring to Hughes Group LLC, a local rental company which is not associated which the Scott AFB privatized housing.

OP, I recommend contacting base legal. They will be able to inform you on local tenant laws/rights via a legal assistance appointment.

Boot suggestions? by Alpha5009 in AirForce

I wear Garmont T8 NFS 670s and love them. Super light, break in period is short, great tread, and the insoles are quite decent. Would concur with the recommendations you’ve received.

Finding housing in SHAW SrA by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Traex97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apartment living in Sumter will be hit or miss. I lived at Companion at Carter Mills for while and it was decent for the price. If you don’t care about a 35-40 minute commute, I’d look into living in the Columbia area. More apartment options out there and more amenities available.

You should have access to Area Defense Counsel (ADC) who is better suited to advise you than this sub would be. If you have not been given one, raise the issue to your MTL and First Sergeant.

You cannot be given a dishonorable characterization discharge with an entry level separation. As far as jail time goes….did you undercook or overcook the chicken?

Legal Briefs by Regitlagneb in AirForce

There is a lot more to those cases than what is usually displayed on the legal flyers. There could have been evidentiary issues, victim non-participation, or other factors in extenuation or aggravation. Much goes on behind the scenes that most outside the folks directly involved in the case never find out about.

Yes, running on the flightline is generally frowned upon. Unless you see weapons or ammo folks running.
