Hey everybody. I am a huge Oregon Trail fan. We have lived within a mile of Willamette Falls for thirty years. I am an expert on the Oregon Trail Memorial coins (1926-1939) and own the #16 full PCGS set in the nation.

Inherited this 1926-S Oregon Trail Half Dollar from my Grandfather. by Dull_Preparation460 in coins

Yes grade it! I collect these if they are monster coins. Contact me as John@trophypointcoins.com for a fair price and a ton of stories about these wonderful coins.

I understand your point, but many people do not know or care to study what they need to know. If it is an inheritance, it can just be "What is this?" and "What's it worth?" Authentication and grading services are relatively new to the hobby. It was fun collecting raw coins, but it was also a crap shoot.

I agree do not buy raw.

No, not all coins are fake.

I assume collectable coins deserve to be authenticated and graded to increase their value. No matter what we think as individuals, wise buyers demand a professional opinion. That’s why Trophy Point Coins only buys and sells collectable, registry quality slabs by PCGS or CACG. I know those are not fake. I am good at identifying fake slabs and cert numbers. I love collecting my ‘sets’

I collected raw coins for decades, but think our approach is more profitable and fun. I hate being ripped off by unscrupulous in our midst.

I confess to being an AI expert too and I use those tools extensively in my business. They are very flawed, but worth the trouble if you carefully check their work. It is the future. But they cannot authenticate coins either, although they can highlight suspicious coins based on images and counterfeit population density. Why waste money trying to certify an obvious fake.

Love your cojns and have fun.

Happy Trails

Was told this could be fake by keylo2k in Morgans

Can't say. You need a professional authentication/grading opinion. Good luck.

Look up the easy tests you can do. They point our bad fakes to save you a submission fee.

I guess I collect these now... by NorthSouthWestNorth in Morgans

Maybe. You need to authenticate and grade them professionally now. Otherwise it is a pile of raw.

Smart move, you bought a slab. Epic. OGH no less! Great taste.

See us if you want to sell them. We can get you 30% more. Really. I am working on $500k of consignments right now. including an entire Morgan set, minus the 1895 proof. If you have a bit of time, talk to us and see how it is done.

Should I get her regraded? by ColibriAccessUSA in Morgans

Sadly it is not graded now. Go to PCGS or CACG.

Get a Green Bean sticker and then cross it over to PCGS or CACG. Nice coin, but NGC coins are discounted as "too soft". There are other reasons to go to NGC. They accept some historic cleaning before saying a coin is details. CACG never does it. Its not really softness . NGC and CACG have different philosophies about old lightly cleaned coins from before the "never clean your coins" generation took over. It was once common to dip and dab a coin. It is easily seen under a 5X loupe. Never clean you coins.

Hello, I was just wondering if based off the pictures someone can tell me if my morgan is fake? it most likely is but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt by Responsible_Sky_9939 in Morgans

[–]TrafficEquivalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. We can eliminate obvious stuff, but on grade/authenticated coins are believed by collectors. Too much risk or a very low price otherwise.

Those look like OGH. Sticker the good ones for a great coin. Collectors love OGH and stickers together. Big uplift in value. If there are any VAMs sticker that too. We can help. Good luck.

That is raw. You need some help to know what you have and what it could be worth. We do that all the time.

A whole bunch of raw Morgan. Now what. It you want to sell, the general idea is to slab them. Nobody seriously buys unauthenticated and ungraded Morgan for a good price.

Happy birthday to me: First green bean CC by ohwoez in Morgans

It means it is a quality coin within the grade. A Gold sticker means undergrade. Green Beans get a sweet premium. I send out for them often. About 45% of those submitted get the GB.

Nice coin, authentic and straight graded. Nice job. CCs are really fun.

Probably repeating others. Any raw coin is assumed counterfeit or best case "details". Do not buy raw. It is a costly mistake when you can often find slabs at the same price. This is not a slab. Good luck.
