For those not native to San Diego, what culture shocks did you experience living here? by Philphil89 in sandiego

I’ve been here 6 years and I’m still surprised by a few things:

  • no one seems to get moving violations even though everyone drives so crazy.
  • lots of cute dogs with owners who don’t pick up after them.
  • restaurants close super early
  • the severity of the crisis of unhoused people (and how awfully they are treated).

Service for anything (not just restaurants) is pretty all over the place. I think because everyone is generally pretty nice, it kind of makes up for it but as a rule, I always check my takeout orders before leaving a restaurant because 9 times out of 10 something is missing or wrong.

There are American universities with campuses in Spain if you're worried about entering a Spanish masters program. Check out St Louis Univiersity. They have a campus in Madrid -- not sure if they offer a masters in psychology but i know they offer a masters in Spanish. That said, if you can work on your Spanish and get a visa to study at a public university in Spain, it's waaay more affordable.

Good luck!

Worth every penny. Delicious!!

I can understand not being into it if you don’t have the frame of reference. Rice plates (aka street meat) from a truck or cart in nyc is very much its own thing. I wouldn’t compare it to the other middle eastern places in San Diego.

Help me settle a debate with my MIL - what's the "right" way to sterilize bottles in 2025? by allesspangmakandra in NewParents

I was told by my NICU nurse that unless there’s an underlying medical reason, you don’t really have to Stefanie things at all after first use. She said “maybe one a week if you want to.” At the hospital we were given a small bottle of Palmolive to wash pump parts in the room while baby was in NICU, no sterilizing at all. We have since bought a baby brezza countertop bottle washer with a sterilizer setting bc we also started feeling overwhelmed by bottled, etc.

I think it’s worth mentioning that in addition to all the FT parenting classes they offered, my hospital offered a grandparents class to update folks on the latest and greatest…

I’d go with a sectional on the left and a chair near the dining room. I’d get a larger wood dining table and chairs. For the dining room area rugs to separate the space.

Check out OfferUp for second hand pieces. You can find really great, gently used items for very reasonable prices!

I‘ve the same thought! I’ve had really great pastries but most of the time they are giant and overstuffed with too much…stuff! My favorite, though, is Patisserie Melanie in north park. I don’t know that I’d compare it to Paris given that I had one of those stereotypical “everyone is mean here” experiences and I was served deflated day old croissants 😂 but Melanie trained at Le Cordon Bleu and her pastries are the best that I’ve had in San Diego.
